3. Waiver and Discounts
IMR Press is committed to promoting global academic fairness and ensuring that valuable research findings are freely shared and disseminated, while minimizing financial barriers as much as possible. Therefore, we regularly offer full or partial Article Processing Charge (APC) waivers or discounts to authors who meet specific criteria. On average, IMR Press grants waivers for approximately 27%-32%of content each year.
To ensure that available funds are directed to the authors who need them the most, we have the following APC waiver policy:
Criteria for a Full Waiver: APC exemptions apply to authors who have no funding support or whose institution’s open-access publishing funds are insufficient to cover the APC. We prioritize authors from low-income countries (as defined by the World Bank and/or other international organizations). This policy should be based on the fact that all authors (not just the corresponding author) in the article are from low-income countries. Additionally, the research must be conducted in these regions, or primarily focus on subjects from these regions.
Discounts: We may also offer discounts (ranging from 10% to 30%) to authors who are members of affiliated societies. If your research institution or funding agency supports open-access publishing but your project has not received sufficient funding, you may still apply for a discount.
Please note that all waiver or discount requests must be submitted before manuscript submission and via our application form. Requests for waivers or temporary discounts made during the peer review process or after the article has been accepted will not be considered.
Application Process: Before submitting your manuscript, please email us at [email protected] to request open access and apply for a discount or waiver. If you don’t have available funding evidence (such as an official institutional letter), please include it to help us assess your application. Applications will be processed within one week of submission. Each team can receive a maximum of one APC waiver per year, with priority given to those scholars who are most in need, ensuring that more researchers have access to funding opportunities.
Situations Where Exemptions or Discounts Do Not Apply:
- Case Reports: Case reports submitted to the journal are not eligible for APC waivers or discounts.
- Funded Research: If the research has already been funded by a sponsor who is covering the APC, or if the sponsor has an open-access funding policy, the research will not be eligible for a waiver.
Evaluation and Contact:
Each waiver request will be evaluated based on the author’s ability to pay, the quality of the research, the funding situation, and the potential impact of the research. The evaluation will be conducted by the journal’s publishing team, not the editors. Editorial decisions will remain independent of the waiver application process.
If you have any questions about funding options or our exemption program, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
