Another 1st for me - never have encounter this type of owl before. Not the best capture, but I'm happy I saw it:)
Two more looks at this beautiful Owl. I have learned a few things about this individual and his travels since my last post and I will put together a photo story about his journey to here and his contact with humans.

Hurricane Harvey has not only disrupted people but wildlife as well. We are seeing fewer birds and small animals than we normally see. We went looking for Burrowing Owls in an area where we saw 9 in one day last year and this year we were very happy to find one. Hope he brings his friends with him next year as his food supplies get back to normal.

Not much birding activity lately but one recent highlight was this pygmy owl which I photographed from car window on a very dull day.

This is a close relative of the Barn Owl. It has a darker backside and is a bit larger and can be found in marshes and grasslands.

Historically this was considered to be a subspecies of the Eurasian Eagle-Owl ( Bubo bubo ). This one is a bit smaller and often has more color in its plumage than the Eurasian.

I was so lucky to get this lifer owl with a couple. It was extremely difficult one hour hiking in the wet slippery raining day. No pain, no gain as people said. But Mother nature gave me a little break when I found the owls, it stopped raining. I got a few minutes to photograph these beautiful owls before I lost sun light.
