Festival Teaser for 'Such Good Friends' Comedy Short at Sundance 2025

Such Good Friends Short Film Teaser

"My whole family is going to really need you... So you'll stay for dinner tonight, and then maybe after we can have a sleepover." Catch an early first look teaser for this short film premiering at the upcoming 2025 Sundance Film Festival this month. Such Good Friends is the latest creation from the team that made the excellent comedy short The Cowboy and the Samurai which we featured a few years ago. Their next brand new 11 minute short is about a friend and a family. After ending a toxic friendship, a people pleaser finds herself falling into old patterns with her former best friend's family. Apparently including a sleepover? Ha. Starring Mindy Sterling, Niamh O'Neill Culhane, Jared Lo Nigro, and Rachel Rambaldi. Directed by Bri Klaproth, written by Jon Walkup and Bri Klaproth. I'm always happy to support short films and as a big fan of their last one, this one is already on my radar at Sundance this year. Keep an eye out for it there.

Watch: Hilarious 'Godfart' - A Scientifically-Accurate 2 Min Short Film

Godfart Short Film

And then God said, let there be farts! And thus the universe was born. This hilarious 2-minute short film is now online for everyone to enjoy. Godfart is the bonkers creation of comedy filmmaker Michael Langan. He's be whipping up films, commercials, music videos and more but this takes the cake. From the universe of Doxology comes Godfart, the epic creation myth that traces the origins of everything to God's quest for breakfast. Russel Hodgkinson stars as God - before he could make the universe, he needed something to eat first. And the rest is history... Literally. Even though this may seem like a simple concept to pull off, it's not as easy as it looks. To find the right guy for the role of God, to make it all seem plausible and hilarious, and to bring it together with that big bang finale – as the Italians say, that's amore. Plug your nose & enjoy.

Watch: 'Space Plug' Sci-Fi Short About a Boy Raised by Flabby Aliens

Space Plug Sci-Fi Short Film

This is the kind of super strange, clever sci-fi cinema we can always use more of nowadays. Space Plug is a fascinating, weird, funny little short film presented in B&W by UK filmmaker Marcus Anthony Thomas. It was made as part of a Disney Imagine UK scheme in partnership with the NFTS in London. Now available online to watch if you're curious - and it's only 14 minutes long. Every sci-fi nerd needs to watch this just to see something super creative and original. "A baby human is raised in a stimulant free room that looks out into the vastness of space, and more specifically at a big white, blackhole that sucks in stars like a plughole. A Space Plug. With only fluid-filled beings providing them sustenance and company, the human grows to become increasingly restricted by their surroundings and so sets about looking for a way out. Searching for a life in the infinite beyond... in the Space Plug." This is way more wacky and weird than expected, with the flabby alien things being especially insane. It's about this kid having "everything that they need but nothing they want." With Anthony J Abraham, Iniki Mariano, Benjamin Atori, and Michael Fianko. Enjoy.

Watch: Dick Van Dyke in Spike Jonze's New 'All My Love' Music Video

All My Love Music Video

"I'm one of those lucky people who got to do for a living what I would've done anyway!" This is wonderful! Coldplay has released a brand new music video for the single "All My Love" off their brand new album called "Moon Music". But it's nothing like any usual music video. Coldplay's Chris Martin hangs out with the legendary Dick Van Dyke, who is turning 99 years old (!!) and plays on his piano while Dick dances around his home. All of it is filmed & edited into a lovely tribute to the iconic performer / comedian / actor Dick Van Dyke, cut with footage & photographs from his illustrious career in show business. It's co-directed by the filmmakers Spike Jonze & Mary Wigmore, which actually makes it the first real Spike Jonze-directed project we've seen in a while. And it's just so delightful. Shot in location at his home in Malibu, it's a lovely, heartfelt look at his life as he reflects on his age. "I'm acutely aware that I could go any day now... but I don't know why it doesn't concern me. I'm not afraid of it. I have the feeling that I'm gonna be alright." Dance on.

'Julia's Stepping Stones' Doc Teaser About the Filmmaker Julia Reichert

Julia's Stepping Stones Teaser Trailer

"We believed that the only way to achieve equality was to actually live it." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for a biopic documentary film called Julia's Stepping Stones, which will out to watch in December streaming on Netflix worldwide. This is a very special doc tribute to the late filmmaker Julia Reichert, an Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker who passed away. The 32-min short doc first premiered at the 2024 Full Frame Film Festival earlier this year and could end up with an Oscar nomination next year for Best Short Doc. It's credited as directed by both Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar, who last made the outstanding doc American Factory together. Julia Reichert, who passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2022, recounts the path that she took to becoming an acclaimed filmmaker: her upbringing & education, and her interest in working people and the women's movement. She dreamt of a larger life for herself to her discovery of documentary filmmaking and her own voice along the way. A short first teaser - more to follow.

Watch: Unsettling 'Holiday House' Short Film Feat. AnnaSophia Robb

Holiday House Short Film

"Wow you're home is super nice." It might be a good idea to never meet your fans. It can be super awkward if you ever meet them – maybe even dangerous. Yet another eerie new film about parasocial relationships. Holiday House is a short film created by Alex Heller, who also directed & starred in the indie film The Year Between a few years ago. Heller describes it as "mysterious, miniature movie." A content creator feels obligated to let her internet benefactor visit her workshop. His arrival explores uncomfortable boundaries of a parasocial friendship. Starring AnnaSophia Robb as Shelley & David Brown as Marky, with Antonio Marziale & Adrienne Becker. It is very similar to the other short called Followers about a similar home invasion. I also always reference Ingrid Goes West as the original film about parasocial relationships, where people create extremely unhealthy connections to folks they only know on social media. Freaky! View below.

Watch: Orson Welles' 'Freedom River' Animated Short About America

Freedom River Trailer

"So long as this stream flows strong and clear, our people will be filled with life and hope... But if these waters cease to flow or lose their clarity, our lands will decay and die." Indeed - the story of America and where we are today. This fascinating animated short film called Freedom River is originally from 1971. A full 53 years later (!!) and everything it talks about is happening right now - the river of freedom is murky & poisonous, and most Americans don't seem to get it... Freedom River is a "parable told by Orson Welles." The maestro lent his voice to this project after the producers convinced him by sending a script & recorder in the mail to him in Paris. It's a parable about America – obviously this "river of freedom" is referring to the USA – and how xenophobia, racism, and greed will cause that river to become tainted and toxic. "They could not see it. For their pride made them blind." Kind of amazing how accurately this film predicts what is happening to America right now, and how relevant it is even 50+ years later. Another reminder America is far from the prosperous nation it once was but there's still hope in cleaning the river sometime soon. Enjoy.

Watch: Crawling Into Her Boyfriend's Mind - 'Curiosa' Animated Short

Curiosa Animated Short Film

"Maybe it's better if I tell you everything?" Another fantastic stop-motion animated short to feature today. This one comes from a British-Polish animation filmmaker named Tessa Moult-Milewska, who finished this as her graduation project from London's NFTS. Curiosa is a stop-motion animated film under 10 mins that premiered at the 2022 London Film Festival. It picked up numerous awards and is finally online after playing on the fest circuit a while. Curiosa tells the story of overly curious Mary, who visits her boyfriend's flat for the first time, just to discover it’s been stripped bare of all personal belongings. After being denied an explanation, she notices a door and decides to climb into his head. Learning quite a bit in the process. There is whole new style once she leaps into his mind, with body performances by Luna Tosin & Malik Ibheis. Plus the voices of Lizzie Waterworth-Santo as Mary & Dan Connolly as James. This fantastic short has such a unique look and feel, it's a clever and fascinating look at the psychology of romance. Enjoy.
