#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The unforgettable memoir by the late Virginia Roberts Giuffre, the woman who dared to take on Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell “Make no mistake: this is a book about power, corruption, industrial-scale sex abuse and the way in which institutions sided with the perpetrator over his victims. . . . But it is also a book about how a young woman becomes a hero. . . . Important [and] courageous.” —The Guardian The world knows Virginia Roberts Giuffre as Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s most outspoken victim: the woman whose decision to speak out helped send both serial abusers to prison, whose photograph with Prince Andrew catalyzed his fall from grace. But her story has never been told in full, in her own words—until now. In April 2025, Giuffre took her own life. She left behind a memoir written in the years preceding her death and stated unequivocally that she wanted it published. Nobody’s Girl is the riveting and powerful story of an ordinary girl who would grow up to confront extraordinary adversity. Here, Giuffre offers an unsparing and definitive account of her time with Epstein and Maxwell, who trafficked her and others to numerous prominent men. She also details the molestation she suffered as a child, as well as her daring escape from Epstein and Maxwell’s grasp at nineteen. Giuffre remade her life from scratch and summoned the courage to not only hold her abusers to account but also advocate for other victims. The pages of Nobody’s Girl preserve her voice—and her legacy—forever. Nobody’s Girl is an astonishing affirmation of Giuffre’s unshakable will—first, to claw her way out of victimhood, and then to shine light on wrongdoing and fight for a safer, fairer world. Equal parts intimate and fierce, it is a remarkable narrative of fortitude in the face of depravity and despair.

Midnight on the Potomac: The Last Year of the Civil War, the Lincoln Assassination, and the Rebirth of America From the author of The Ground Breaking, longlisted for the National Book Award, comes a riveting saga of the last year of the Civil War—and a revealing new account of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln Told with a page-turning pace, New York Times bestselling author and historian Scott Ellsworth has written the most compelling new book about the Civil War in years. Focusing on the last, desperate months of the war, when the outcome was far from certain, Midnight on the Potomac is a story of titanic battles, political upheaval, and the long-forgotten Confederate terror war against the loyal citizens of the North. Taking us behind the scenes in the White House, along the battlefronts in Virginia, and into the conspiracies of spies and secret agents, Lincoln walks these pages, as do Grant and Sherman. But so do common soldiers, runaway slaves, and an unknown but intrepid female war correspondent named Lois Adams. Rarely, if ever, has a book about the Civil War featured such a rich and diverse cast of characters. Midnight on the Potomac will also shatter some long-held myths. For more than a century and a half, the Lincoln assassination has been portrayed as the sole brainchild of a disgruntled, pro-South actor. But based on both obscure contemporary accounts and decades of long-ignored scholarship, Ellsworth reveals that for nearly one year before the tragic events at Ford’s Theatre, John Wilkes Booth had been working closely with agents of the Confederate Secret Service. And the real Booth is far from the one we’ve long been presented with. Deeply researched yet captivatingly written, Midnight on the Potomac is a new kind of book about the Civil War. In it you will read about the Confederate attempt to burn down New York City, how Lincoln almost lost the presidency, about the Rebel general who nearly captured Washington, and how thousands of enslaved African Americans freed themselves—and helped secure their nation’s survival. In an age of deep political division such as our own, Scott Ellsworth’s book is an eloquent and gripping testament to the courage, grit, and greatness of the American people.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Race Against Terror: Chasing an Al Qaeda Killer at the Dawn of the Forever War “Not only riveting to read but also shines an essential light on the quest for justice in the modern age of terrorism.” —David Grann, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Killers of the Flower Moon In this thrilling true story, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jake Tapper uncovers an investigation—unlike any other in American history—to lock up a dangerous terrorist before he’s set free. June 2011: The case has been cold for nearly ten years when a terrorist fleeing the Arab Spring turns himself in and confesses to killing American soldiers in Afghanistan. This brazen act sets off an unlikely chain of events that puts the entirety of the American justice system to the test. They have the killer, but no evidence to prove the murders happened. Determined to deliver justice, a team led by federal prosecutors Dave Bitkower and Shreve Ariail must traverse the globe, uncovering facts across thousands of miles and tracing shocking plots of terror in order to prevent tragedy from striking again. Through intense reporting and meticulous recreation, Race Against Terror shows a man radicalized to enact violence, courageous soldiers who risked their lives for each other, and the diverse set of men and women who work tirelessly to stay one step ahead of disaster. In this gripping narrative history CNN’s Jake Tapper reveals the true costs of the War on Terror and delivers a salient warning for the increasing threats of extremism we face to this day
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Last Night in San Francisco: Tech's Lost Promise and the Killing of Bob Lee Bad Blood meets Burn Book in this exposé about tech icon Bob Lee—and what his life and 2023 murder tell us about San Francisco in the Internet Age FOR FANS OF GOING INFINITE AND SUPER PUMPED: Sex and drugs, parties and violence, genius coders and VC tycoons—welcome to the rip-roaring world of the American tech industry The full story of an industry, a city, and two men—one who got everything he ever wanted, one who never got what he thought he deserved—and what happened the night it all came apart. Like his many peers in the tech industry who had poured into San Francisco over the last two decades, Bob Lee was remaking the world, building the most familiar parts of our digital lives, a lead innovator at one start-up after another, such as Google, Android, Square, and CashApp. When Lee was found stabbed to death one night on the streets of San Francisco, the city’s many critics knew exactly what it meant. Just like they had been saying, the city was violent, dangerous, and out-of-control. San Francisco was so bent on creating a liberal utopia that it was failing at its most basic tasks—to keep its citizens safe. It’s a familiar story—familiar and wrong. Bob Lee was a man without limits, and he had a recklessness that led to his triumphs as well as his downfall.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Iosi, the Remorseful Spy A gripping true crime tale of espionage, Jewish history, and antisemitic mass terrorism in 1990s Buenos Aires. An unresolved true story that echoes today, this book shows that even after the military regime ended in Argentina and there was a civilian government, military and national police remained racist and antisemitic. José Pérez, a young intelligence agent of the Federal Police, receives orders from his bosses to infiltrate the Argentine Jewish community by posing as a Jew. The goal is to monitor the development of an alleged Jewish plan to take over Patagonia to create a second state of Israel, known as the “Andinia Plan.” Iosi, the Hebrew name he chooses, blends in by learning the language, culture, history, religion, and politics of the Jewish people: he becomes a well-respected community leader and obtains valuable information that he passes on to his handler, the enigmatic and seductive Laura, or Red as she is called. Iosi soon understands that there is nothing suspicious going on within the Argentine Jewish community. Prone to amorous adventures, he lets himself go and falls madly in love with a young Hebrew teacher, marries her in secret and plans to convert and emigrate with her to Israel. When the two most catastrophic terrorist attacks in Argentinian history take place, one against the Israeli embassy in 1992 and the other against Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA), a Jewish Community Centre in 1994, causing hundreds of deaths, Iosi grows fearful that the information he provided was used by his bosses to help organize the attacks. His bosses order him to abandon his mission and move away from Buenos Aires. But Iosi feels driven to get to the bottom of the story and he seeks out two Jewish journalists, Horacio and Miriam. Together, they strive for years to get Iosi’s story told. But after initial interest, every contact they make, from supposedly honest politicians to national and international Jewish organizations, ultimately turn their backs on them. Some people are killed, others lose their jobs or are removed from the case. There is no end. This is a true story and it continues unresolved to this day.

About True Crime
True Crime books focus on real-life sensational, shocking, or strange events and crimes. From serial killers and psychopath books to the best books on white collar crime, it’s all here in chilling digital detail. Based on our natural fear, curiosity, and contempt, true crime ebooks strive to investigate some of the most horrifying criminal occurrences in modern life: the offenders, the victims, and the circumstances. It's common for us, as readers, to try our best to solve or figure out what happened in advance of the investigators. All of this is usually underpinned with intriguing and disturbing clues and information. True crime ebooks sometimes have both objective and subjective narratives, just like in other nonfiction. There’s typically an assumption of moral judgments in these books because most of these horrific crimes go against the norms of common morality. Thankfully, atrocities like sexual assault, murder, and terrorism fall well outside of the regular spectrum of acceptable behavior. True crime nonfiction is a primarily modern phenomenon, but murder ballads from Scandinavia and the British Isles have been around since before the printing machine. The mystery surrounding murder and other violent crimes persists, even as the genre has risen in popularity and become more stylized. Popular true crime writers like Truman Capote, Michelle McNamara, and Charles Cullen are some of the most well-known and sought-after in the genre.
