A huge Coronation Street character left the cobbles on Monday night after starring on the ITV soap for a decade.

Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon, has left to start a new chapter in London in intense and emotional scenes.

Determined to leave on her own terms Bethany asked mum Sarah Platt (Tine O'Briein) to give her ex Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) a note.

Teacher Daniel was seen rushing to Bethany's flat in desperation to speak to her before she left however after being misled she was already gone.

Daniel's heartbreak deepened when Sarah gave him a thank-you card from Bethany, which read: 'Dear Daniel, thank you for showing me your true colours. From Bethany.'

Bethany returned to Corrie last year and quickly rekindled her relationship with Daniel but over the past 12 months the pair have had no end of drama as she pursued a journalism career.

Her former abuser Nathan Curtis, was released from prison and her life turned upside down after plastic surgery in Turkey went wrong and left her with a permanent stoma bag.

Things did seem to be on the up for Bethany after Daniel proposed on Christmas Day however, his ex-fiancée, Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) was still very much in the picture.

Daisy soon discovered she was pregnant and given her and Daniel's one-night stand weeks earlier, there was a strong chance he could be the father.

The revelation was too much for Bethany to handle and she decided to leave for London on her own to escape.

However, fans were thrilled to see the back of Bethany and quickly took to X - formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts.

They wrote: 'Bye Bethany! Good riddance; Keep going, Bethany. Don't come back; Oh how I wish Bethany wasn't coming back; Bye Bethany! Good riddance'.

Despite fans wishes, Bethany's departure is not permanent and as actress Lucy is currently on maternity leave after welcoming her second child, daughter Nancy Margaret, last month with footballer partner Ryan Ledson.

The soap star and Ryan, 27, who plays as a midfielder for Preston North End, welcomed their first child, Sonny Jude, in January 2023.

Lucy and Ryan met through friends back in 2017.

She has previously revealed she wants to have two more children, but it seems Ryan is going to need some convincing.

Talking about the future on ITV's Drama Queens in April , the midfielder said: 'Maybe one more' as Lucy protested: 'Two more'.

Ryan argued back: 'One more for me, like'.

Lucy then had the final word as she added: 'Two more. I have the uterus.'

The actress also opened up about her frustrations that Ryan is yet to pop the question.

Lucy shared: 'I think everyone thinks that being with a footballer, is going to come with loads of glamorous things - but Ryan is really, really normal. He's a normal lad from Liverpool.

'I am not engaged. It's actually become a bit of a running joke now, but I think the more that I go on about it, the longer it's going to be.

'Maybe I need to stop talking about it and then it'll happen... maybe.'
