Senior Programme Lead - Policy & Industry Engagement

Purpose

World Nuclear Association, the international organisation representing the global nuclear industry, is seeking a dynamic Senior Programme Lead to work within its Policy and Industry Engagement department. As a key member of the department reporting directly to the Head of Policy & Industry Engagement, this position focuses on three main areas of responsibilities:

 

  • Leadership, Management and Coordination: support to the Head of Policy & Industry Engagement in the operational management of the department, undertaking managerial responsibilities for the team to ensure smooth day to day operations and contributing to long-term planning
  •  Project Management: support the Head of Policy & Industry Engagement on the effective implementation of the department programme of work 
  • Technical Expertise: responsibility for the delivery of the Association's work in his/her area of expertise. Relevant areas of technical expertise required are centred around one or more of the following topics; nuclear safety and licensing, nuclear project management and capacity building, energy policy, markets, economics and finance.

The role also includes managing and coordinating one of the Association's Working Groups depending on the area of expertise of the successful candidate. The role ensures that the Association remains a relevant and authoritative source of knowledge, and is recognised as a key international expert, contributing to the global impact of the Association’s work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Head of Department with operational planning and delivery, ensuring alignment of coordinated team activities with the Association strategic objectives
  • Senior World Nuclear Association focal point for the area of technical expertise
  • Management of relevant Working Group activities, ensuring work plans align with the Association strategic objectives
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external networks and stakeholders
  • Cross functional working with other World Nuclear Association departments and colleagues to ensure the effectiveness of the Association’s activities in the relevant topic areas
  • Support and promote wider/other World Nuclear Association activities as required

Management and Co-ordination

  • Management of the day to day team activities and support to the Head of Policy & Industry Engagement in the operational management of the department
  • Cover for Head of Department when required
  • Support with the recruitment, induction and development of all team members

Operational Planning & Delivery

  • Assist in managing departmental budgets and resource planning
  • Responsible for ensuring the effective reporting, monitoring and coordination of all department projects and activities where appropriate
  • Organise and deliver workshops and events

Working Groups

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of activities globally in relevant area of expertise; develop and propose activities to support delivery of World Nuclear Association strategy
  • Have oversight of progress/status of WG activities, ensuring coordination and integration where appropriate, and sufficient resource allocation; share information, learnings & best practice with wider team.
  • Lead & deliver actions to manage and grow Working Group membership & external networks
  • Provide management of relevant Working Group activities including joint projects and activities with strategic partners

External Network and Stakeholder Management

  • Support Head of Department activities to establish & develop strategic partnerships with key multilateral institutions
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, international and regional organizations, research organizations, and standards development organizations
  • Manage activities/projects with strategic partnerships
  • Attend and/or contribute to conferences
  • Represent the Association at relevant meetings and forums
Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as nuclear engineering, nuclear safety and licensing, nuclear project management and capability building, energy economics and finance, or energy policy
  • Minimum 5 years’ professional experience in a relevant field
  • Experience in leading and managing teams, business planning, and performance management,
  • Proven abilities in programme and project management
  •  Detailed knowledge of the nuclear power industry
  • Sound understanding of general trends in world energy and world nuclear energy

Desirable

  •  Masters’ degree in a relevant fields, including nuclear engineering, nuclear safety and licensing, nuclear waste management, energy economics and finance, or energy policy
  • Knowledge of another language

  • Highly logical problem solver with a questioning mindset to research, evaluate and accurately interpret information from various sources
  • Demonstrable project management skills with an ability to work within and manage timelines and distribution of work

Purpose

World Nuclear Association, the international organisation representing the global nuclear industry, is looking to recruit a Programme Lead to work within its Policy and Industry Engagement department. The Association are seeking individuals with technical expertise in one or more of the following topics; nuclear safety and licensing, decommissioning and waste management, nuclear project management and capacity building, energy policy, markets, economics and finance. The Programme Lead role acts as the subject matter expert for their area of expertise and has responsibility for the coordination and delivery of the Association's work in that area, in alignment with the department’s strategic objectives; ensuring the Association remains a relevant and authoritative source of knowledge and contributing to the global impact of the Association’s work.

Key Responsibilities
  • World Nuclear Association focal point for topic area
  • Drive activities within the topic area that support the positioning of World Nuclear Association as a leading voice in the global nuclear industry sector
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of topic area; engage and coordinate with industry stakeholders to support the delivery of World Nuclear Association strategy
  • Work with Head of Department and other Programme Leads to ensure alignment of topic area work plans with Working Group activities and the overall Association strategic objectives
  • Work with other World Nuclear Association departments and colleagues to ensure the effectiveness of Association’s activities in the relevant topic areas.
  • Support and promote wider/other World Nuclear Association activities as required

Operational Planning & Delivery

  • Responsible for effective project management and delivery of World Nuclear Association’s work activities in the topic area, including:

- To prepare, contribute to & produce World Nuclear Association publications, articles etc,

- Organisation and delivery of workshops and events

- Attendance at and/or contribution to conferences

- Representation of the Association at relevant meetings and forums

Working Groups (WG)

  • Develop the WG annual programme of work & project manage the activities
  • Lead & deliver actions to manage and grow WG membership & external network
  • Provide management of relevant WG joint projects and activities with strategic partners

External Network and Stakeholder Management

  • Connect and engage with appropriate nuclear and non-nuclear stakeholder organisations (members and non-members), in matters relevant to the topic area
  • Represent the Association at relevant meetings and forums

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential
