Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how utilo.io collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you access or interact with our Platform. By using utilo.io, you consent to the data practices described herein.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide personalized and reliable services. This includes:
- Account information: When you register, we collect your email address, username, name if provided, authentication details, and encrypted password to create and manage your account securely.
- Usage data: We automatically collect technical information such as IP address, browser type, device settings, language preferences, time spent on pages, referring pages, and actions taken within the site, such as tools favorited, categories viewed, searches, or submissions created.
- Cookies: We use cookies and similar technologies to remember user preferences, enable secure login sessions, protect accounts, and analyze platform usage trends.
- Voluntary submissions: When you suggest a tool, submit a website, contact support, or submit feedback, we may collect your name, email, message content, website URL, title, logo URL, description, suggested category, tags, badge participation choice, badge installation URL, and related review information.
- Payment and checkout records: If you choose a paid submission option, we may collect and store your selected plan, payment status, payment provider, product ID, checkout ID, payment request ID, checkout URL, paid date, refund or dispute status, and related metadata needed to process and support the paid submission.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal data such as government identification numbers, biometric information, or full payment card details. We do not store full card numbers or card security codes on utilo.io. Payment details are processed by third-party payment providers.
2. How We Use Collected Data
We use the information we collect to maintain and improve the Platform's quality and personalization. Specifically:
- To operate user accounts, enable favorites, personalize dashboards, and show submission status.
- To receive, review, verify, publish, update, reject, or remove submitted tool listings.
- To fetch public website metadata for submission prefill, such as page title, description, and favicon.
- To process paid submissions, create checkout links, verify payment status, handle support requests, prevent fraud, and maintain billing records.
- To monitor website performance, detect technical issues, prevent abuse, and improve content organization.
- To understand user engagement and enhance tool discovery accuracy.
- To communicate important updates, submission outcomes, payment-related notices, new features, or service announcements where permitted.
- To comply with applicable legal, tax, accounting, security, and dispute-resolution obligations.
Data collected is processed internally by authorized personnel and by service providers acting on our behalf. We retain your data only for as long as necessary to provide our services, maintain legitimate business records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or comply with law. Analytical data may be aggregated and anonymized for performance reporting without identifying individual users.
3. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties. However, we may share limited data with trusted service providers that help us operate the Platform, including hosting, database, authentication, analytics, email, customer support, security, and payment processing providers.
For paid submissions, payment providers such as Creem may receive your email, name if provided, user ID or internal customer reference, selected product or plan, checkout metadata, billing details, payment details, order details, tax information, and transaction status as needed to process payment and provide buyer support. Their processing is governed by their own terms and privacy notices.
If your submitted website is approved, parts of your submission may become public on utilo.io, including the website name, URL, logo, description, category, tags, pricing label, screenshots, badge or featured status, and editorial notes. Please do not submit confidential information through public listing fields.
The Platform may contain links to external websites and third-party tools. We have no control over these sites and are not responsible for their content, data practices, or privacy policies. When you navigate to an external link or payment checkout page, your data is subject to that site's own privacy standards.
If required by law or in response to a lawful request, such as a subpoena, court order, tax inquiry, payment dispute, fraud investigation, or rights enforcement request, we may disclose limited user data to authorities, payment providers, advisors, or affected parties.
4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
utilo.io uses cookies primarily to authenticate users, store session tokens, remember preferences, protect accounts, and improve experience. Cookies also help analyze aggregate traffic patterns to enhance performance and discover usability issues.
Users may adjust their browser settings to refuse cookies or alert them when cookies are being sent. However, disabling cookies may limit access to certain personalized features, account functions, submission workflows, or payment redirects.
We do not use invasive tracking technologies or cross-site behavioral advertising cookies on utilo.io. Analytics are used to understand aggregate usage and maintain site reliability. Third-party payment checkout pages may use their own cookies and tracking technologies under their own policies.
5. Website Metadata Fetching
When you use submission prefill or submit a website URL, utilo.io may request the public webpage to read basic metadata, such as title, description, Open Graph data, and favicon. The target website may log the request from utilo.io, including the requested URL, timestamp, IP address, and user agent. Do not submit private, internal, or non-public URLs.
6. Data Security
We employ a combination of technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect user data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. This includes encrypted communication (HTTPS), secure database management, access limitation to authorized staff, and verification of payment provider webhooks where applicable.
Despite our best efforts, no system is entirely immune to security risks. By using utilo.io, you acknowledge that data transmission over the internet carries inherent risks, and you agree that we cannot guarantee absolute protection. In the event of a data breach, we will take prompt remedial action and notify affected users when legally required.
7. Your Rights and Data Management
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data stored on the Platform.
- Request correction or deletion of inaccurate or outdated data.
- Delete your account and associated personal information by contacting support@utilo.io.
- Withdraw consent to optional data processing activities at any time.
- Request information about payment or submission records associated with your account.
Upon receiving a verified request, we will process it promptly unless retention is necessary for legitimate business or legal reasons. For example, we may retain payment, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, dispute, security, or audit records after account deletion where required or permitted by law. Deleted accounts may retain anonymized analytical data used for site statistics without personally identifiable information.
8. International Users
utilo.io is available globally. Your information may be processed in countries or regions different from where you live, including by infrastructure, analytics, support, and payment providers. We take reasonable steps to ensure that personal data receives appropriate protection according to applicable law.
