Stay away
After seeing numerous sponsored posts on Instagram and Facebook, advertising about their service and especially their comprehensive insurance cover (Vollkasko + Haftpflicht-Versicherung) I wanted to give it a try and decided to rent out my bike on their platform.
But I still had some concerns about the insurance policy, especially the third-party liability.
After browsing their website extensively, and finding somewhere in the FAQ this only info "Liability insurance is the responsibility of the hirer", I decided to contact Helvetia directly to know exactly what their insurance policy covers in Switzerland and what it doesn't.
Turns out, the Helvetia-Ribe insurance does NOT cover any 3rd party liability. They only protect your insurance premium, and not even in all the cases, and pay the deductible.
But as a hirer on Ribe, you have to proactively inform your own insurance.
And if you don't, and sh** hits the fan and the person you rented your bike to is liable in an accident where a 3rd party is involved, your assurance can avoid any contractual obligation and probably will not cover any claims, which could amount in the hundreds of thousands if someone ends up badly injured.
So you would end up paying everything with your own money.
Dear @Ribe, as a platform operator, how can you be this reckless and lie to your users and make them bear such a big risk?
And that Helvetia allows Ribe to advertise this misleading claim, or just turn a blind eye to this proven case of deceit is beyond my understanding.
Thus I will stay away from this and would strongly advise you to do the same.
