SCAMMERS!!! NEVER AGAIN USING THIS COMPANY
NEVER AGAIN USING THIS COMPANY, THEY WILL STEAL MONEY ANY WAY THEY CAN.
We booked a car for 2 days (paid for 2 full days, they charge per day), from Saturday to Sunday end of day. We however put that we wanted to try and give it back by 10pm, out of good will. We gave back the car at Frankfurt am Main Airport (where we also rented it from), and arrived at 10:30pm due to some road blocks and traffic, something unforeseen and unavoidable! We gave back the keys into a box, as instructed by the man who was there to receive the cars. The next day we receive an email invoice where we needed to pay a fee due to giving it back at 10:30pm instead of 10pm, even though we had paid for the car for 2 full days, with the end of the day on sunday ending at 11pm. We tried to get support and this useless company with their useless employees just throw at your face that its not their problem, they will charge for this because they can, it doesnt matter that you paid 2 full days (then why charge for 2 full days?!).
AVOID THESE SCAMMERS! will definitely press charges against this incident, in the court of law they will have to present a stronger case, or me suing them will be more than just 15 EUR fee they wanted to steal.
Shame on you Avis Munich management
In my last 4 bookings with Avis Munich in June and Julay the return agents, who are a 3rd party company have falsely accused me of damage. It's always been minor and previous hire damage but they find light scratches on boot lid and alloys and then charge €500. When I complain to the Avis main desk staff they confirm it was old damage and remove the charge but then these 3rd party people override and recharge a few days later. Such is their pursuit of commission. Thenthey refuse to answer any emails or attempts for me to get redress. In my 25 years hiring cars I never came across should overt behaviour. This week I got the same agent who charged me with old damage on June 5th and he came up with minor scratch on the boot. Even if I had done it the scratch was so minor that does not even warrant reporting. Unbelievable especially that the agent name is not even recorded on the illegal and incorrect damage report so I cant even complain about this disgraceful repeated unprofessional and fake behaviour. There is no accountability so shame on you AVIS MANAGEMENT for allowing this behaviour to persist.
Extremely disappointing experience
Extremely disappointing experience. I arrived on time with all required documents, yet instead of receiving professional assistance, I was repeatedly asked for additional identification and documents, making the process feel unnecessarily complicated. I was told exceptions or alternatives would be considered, but in the end no practical solution was offered and I left without a vehicle despite urgently needing one. I felt the communication was dismissive rather than customer-oriented, and I did not feel treated with respect throughout the process. This was by far the worst rental experience I have had.
Fraudulent ways of working
I had three incidents with Avis in the last 1-2 years where Avis is showing inappropriate behavior or maybe even betraying customers on purpose. On a business trip Avis charged multiple insurances that I never asked for and I also was never asked (left the garage in the US as a Preferred customer just showing my license at the exit). On another business trip I returned the car with full tank but got charged a full tank (I could prove by showing the gas station receipt). In both cases invoice was adjusted after multiple rounds of complaints.
The most recent experience was on a private trip to Costa Rica where I booked a car category that mentioned Nissan Patrol or similar but got a Kia Sorrento (with the message Nissan Patrol is not part of the portfolio anymore). The 2 cars are very different (price about factor 3 different, size of car, type of engine (8 vs 4 cylinder), etc.... However, Avis customer care insists that it is totally fine to operate like that (advertising a premium car and renting out a medium sized and priced car(. Unacceptable! It seems Avis is on purpose charging for services that they do not deliver on...
TERRIBLE!!
TERRIBLE!!! We waited in the original line for 1.5 hours before we got to an employee with our car reserved and then after and additional 20 minutes the employee says that the car needs to be cleaned and is not ready, we ended up waiting another hour until finally the car was ready. Do not book through Avis unless you want to wait for 3 plus hours and not given any information about the eta of your vehicle.
Avis car rental Munich Airport i did…
Avis car rental Munich Airport i did rental car from Avis car rental they did talk rental amount plus extra for insurance. Also, I had a full insurance package i did retarn the vehicle on time with no issue, no delay, no extra mile, full gas on 26/05/2026 on same location till now, despite multiple email requests, they do not reply or returing they extra they talk from me
Unexpected Charges and No Real Support
I booked a rental car through CHECK24 for €148.01. At the rental desk, I clearly stated that I already had insurance through CHECK24 and did not want any additional products or coverage.
I later discovered that I had been charged a total of €289.96, including additional insurance fees and an airport/station fee that was not clearly disclosed during the booking process. I signed the rental agreement believing it reflected the same conditions and price shown on CHECK24.
When I filed a complaint, CHECK24 simply forwarded it to AVIS and then relayed AVIS's rejection. No meaningful support or investigation was provided. Very disappointing experience and poor customer protection.
Avis was excellent and helped take…
Avis was excellent and helped take initiative when Hertz cancelled our car. They had excellent service and I really appreciate the help after having difficulties with Hertz.
Extremely disappointing experience at Avis Podgorica Airport
I had fully prepaid my reservation through Booking.com, including coverage, under a non-refundable condition. Despite this, the branch staff refused to deliver the vehicle unless I purchased additional insurance directly from them.
When I asked them to simply provide this policy in writing, they refused.
I was then pressured into signing documents without enough time to properly read them, and when I requested more time, I was told to go back to the end of the line after already waiting more than an hour.
I was initially told that the additional insurance would cost approximately 90 EUR, but I was ultimately charged 100 EUR due to a “Location Surcharge” that had not been clearly disclosed upfront.
Even worse, one employee behaved in an extremely rude and aggressive manner because I looked at her name on her badge, while another employee (who did not have a badge) refused to identify herself.
At this point:
Extra charges were forced under pressure
Written confirmation was refused
Important terms were not transparently disclosed
My 800 EUR deposit is still being held
To be clear: the problem was not just a small undisclosed surcharge.
The real issue was that I was effectively forced to pay an additional 100 EUR in order to receive a vehicle that had already been fully prepaid through Booking.com.
I was not given a realistic option to refuse:
If I declined the extra payment, they refused to deliver the vehicle.
If I cancelled, I would lose my prepaid reservation.
When I asked them to provide this policy in writing, they refused.
Under those circumstances, this did not feel like a voluntary purchase. It felt like customers were being pressured into paying additional charges they could not reasonably refuse.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location to anyone. Even if you carefully review the booking conditions in advance, you may still find yourself being pressured into paying unexpected additional charges at the counter with no realistic alternative.

AVIS: NEVER AGAIN!
The 1.550Euro (82,000 TL) 'Ghost Dent' Scam That Ruined Our Family Vacation!
( Rental agreement number: 321843001)
Trusting their brand, I rented a Skoda Octavia Combi from Avis at Frankfurt Airport for a 10-day trip, to be dropped off in Munich. Being on a family vacation, I took meticulous care of the car to avoid even the slightest hassle in a foreign country, exclusively parking in secure, indoor garages. However, returning the vehicle at the end of our trip turned into an absolute nightmare!
As a certified expert witness with years of professional experience in technical inspections, appraisals, and damage assessments, I have authored hundreds of technical reports. Yet, I have never encountered such bad faith and utter lack of professionalism in my entire life! I was slapped with an outrageous 1,550 Euro (82,398 TL!) bill over a 3-millimeter "dent" on the rear left side that is literally invisible to the naked eye, along with some superficial dust marks on the bumper that vanished with a single swipe of a wet wipe.
Even though I took a detailed walk-around video when picking up the car, the dark parking garage and reflections made this microscopic "ghost dent" impossible to spot. I absolutely did not cause this damage—in fact, even the Avis employee receiving the car couldn't locate it in their own photos!
Charging a family 82,398 TL for easily wipeable marks that fall strictly under "normal wear and tear" from simply loading luggage is a complete violation of business ethics. This isn't a corporate policy; it’s an absolute shakedown designed to fleece customers.
I refuse to accept a single cent of this fraudulent invoice! I will relentlessly pursue my rights through international consumer protection laws, credit card chargebacks, and every legal channel available. If you see an Avis sign, run the other way. They ruined our family vacation—don’t let them extort your hard-earned money!
If I could I have given them 0 stars
If I could I have given them 0 stars! First they overcharged me 72 euro(I got them back after 3 weeks).
And then over a month after I have left Portugal they charge me 90 euro again without any mail or why? What the f!!!! I can’t call Avis Portugal. Im not gonna use Avis anymore!! Stay away!!!!
Booked a premium car i Flensburg…
Booked a premium car in Flensburg yesterday. Today on our way to Flensburg from Denmark, we get a call that no vehicle is available for us. We could MAYBE get a Dacia Duster. What in the world has happend to AVIS - i will never rent a car with them again.
My experience with Avis in Mallorca was…
My experience with Avis in Mallorca was a complete disaster. I sincerely hope this was just due to one particular staff member (whose name I will not mention for privacy reasons), because the level of service I received was unacceptable.
There was absolutely no effort to find a solution, no attempt to offer alternatives, and no willingness to help resolve an issue. I was simply left without support.
In the end, I was forced to go to another rental company, where I immediately found the level of kindness, professionalism, and availability that any customer should expect.
To future customers: choose any other rental agency, but avoid Avis Mallorca.
great fleet but bad customer service
3-day rental, clean return, €600 surprise bill
Rented a car for 3 days (23–26 April 2026). Returned it without incident, handed the keys to staff in the parking lot at 12:00. Then, 2 days later, got hit with around €600 in charges:
• Extra "late return" day — I returned the keys at 12:00, but the staff member only parked the car 3.5 hours later. Cameras would show this. They refused to check. (as can be seen in the image attached, it was parked at 11:53)
• Damage report claims two scratches over 200 mm on the rim. Photos clearly show one is barely 2–3 cm.
• Customer service refused to use my photos as proof, refused to check cameras, was rude and hung up on me.
Rental Agreement: 321601582
I'd like this resolved fairly. If it isn't, I won't rent from them again and I'll share this wherever I can. Will update the moment it's handled properly.
I rented a car from Avis Germany last…
I rented a car from Avis Germany last summer. It was at Frankfurt airport. They are super picky. Checking and checking and checking every tiniest scratch/ Nothing i have ever experienced in any other country.
Incorrect charge for an additional…
Incorrect charge for an additional driver. Compained to customer service who were totally unhelpful and dismissive. Very surprising for a large company like this bur looking at the reviews I see that they really are dreadful.
Taking money for a service not asked for or taken is tantamont to theft and I am currently escallating to my credit card as a dispute.
I am reporting a serious issue…
I am reporting a serious issue regarding my recent Avis rental at Heathrow Airport (T234), booked via Check24 (Germany), which included zero-excess insurance.
At pickup, I explicitly declined any vehicle upgrade, additional insurance products, and fuel/refuelling services. Despite this, these items were included in the final contract and charged to my account.
The contract was processed very quickly, leaving no meaningful opportunity to properly review or reject the additional charges before signature.
As a result, I have been billed for services that were not clearly requested or agreed to. In particular, an upgrade charge was applied, despite no upgrade being received or used. The vehicle was returned with a full fuel tank, making fuel-related charges unjustified.
I have already contacted customer service, but the issue remains unresolved.
I am requesting a full review and correction of the invoice, including removal of all disputed charges and issuance of a corrected bill reflecting only the base rental.
At this stage, I consider the billing process misleading and not aligned with the expected standard of transparency.
I had a booking for a car (prepaid) in…
I had a booking for a car (prepaid) in Memmimgen airport, and when me and my family arrived at the desk the employe said that they had no cars. That was on Friday before Easter 2026. Luckily we found one last car from another company and had to pay approximately 300€ extra. Another ridiculous thing is that I have to send an email asking for my money back, although it is totally their fault.
Don't ever hire a car from Avis
We booked our car for our 14-day Norway road trip from Avis via Booking.com.
Our payment was made to Booking.com, and the only extra payment for tolls was to be paid at Avis.
As soon as we landed @ Oslo Airport, Gardermoen (OSL) we headed straight to Avis car rental. Luckily the queue was short and we were attended by a lovely lady. She explained all the required information to us and handed over our key. For documents she only asked for our driving license, and it was quick. She also took credit card details, blocking 1,000 NOK as a security deposit. She said the deposit would be returned after returning and inspecting the car, minus any tolls, tickets, or late drop-off fees.
Going to the pick up section was easy and we got a lovely VW ID3. We loved how smooth this car was; it gave us no problems during the whole journey. Finding charging stations was never a problem and charging the car was easy.
After finishing our trip the process of dropping the car off was easy and we just had to drop the car key in the assigned Avis rental box. (We dropped our car exact date promised)
Cut to 2 weeks later: we received a bill and they had blocked 5600 NOK. This was after debiting Toll charges. We were in shock. Avis phone number given in the pamphlet (I have attached an image) does not work. No one answers the call and it's useless, as I have tried multiple times. I even emailed the AVIS COMPANY and they do not respond to emails other than the autoreply. After emailing and complaining repeatedly to Booking.com (who were helpful) and waiting two months, we received a refund of 5000 NOK but 600 NOK was not credited for a reason that made no sense. One cannot ask for an explanation because there is no customer service, and no one answers calls or emails.
We have traveled to 40+ countries and hired cars everywhere (not through Avis though), but we have never had such a bitter experience.
No wonder AVIS rental has such bad reviews. When we hired the car we had such a good experience and we wondered how they could have such a bad rating; well, now we know!
Don't ever hire a car from Avis.
