It’s an understatement to say that Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is the best book I read last year. I devoured this book lavishly. It’s fast-paced, super cute, relatable and has adorable romance. The feels in this book is unbearable! After I read it, I can’t stop thinking about it for days! It had a huge impact on my being.
Twin sisters, Cath and Wren, were a team in mostly everything. They do stuff together: from writing a fan fiction story of their favorite series “Simon and Snow” to going to parties and wearing matching t-shirts. In short, they were inseparable until college came. When Wren decided to go out and make new friends, Cath, as introvert as she is, felt terrible about it. She couldn’t stand not being Wren’s roommate, let alone being away from her. Cath’s first few days without her sister was horrible. She stayed in her room for months and continued writing their story. No parties. No friends. She didn’t even know where the cafeteria is so she resorted to eating protein bars in her room instead. But things changed when Reagan, her roommate, and Levi became her friends.
Cath is pretty much an introvert. She is socially inept and full of angst. When I read the portion of the book where Cath struggled with going out of her comfort zone, I felt a tug in my heart. It was painful for me to see a character being in the same situation I was before (I still am!). I was mentally cheering for her. And thankfully, she came out of her comfort zone and tried having friends.
Reagan played a big role in the story. She was the bridge to Cath and Levi. Not only that, but she also put a stop to Cath’s social anxiety by taking her to the cafeteria, talking about girl stuff and becoming her friend. I like her snarky and frank personality!
Levi is such a sweet guy and a bit geeky too! He’s my kind of man. I like how he approached Cath, not taking things too fast. He made a mistake that brought Cath (and me) to tears. It was a jerk move! He was heartily sorry afterward so I couldn’t help but love him again.
The book itself is an epitome of being an introvert: of how first love happens and of the hurt we feel when love comes our way. It’s full of emotions, love, friendship and struggles. Rainbow Rowell wowed me with her delicate writing. It speaks from the heart and soul. Each word blotted by ink is the soul and heart of Cath. The words took me into Cath’s inner self. And because of that, I was completely invested in the story.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is a capsule full of heart-warming vitamins that makes any reader hyper-active and ecstatic! The story is magically woven into a precious gem anyone would have the pleasure of having. It’s pure magic! I wish that Rainbow Rowell will eventually make a real “Simon and Snow” book. It would be epic.
