Decode a Base64 string

VG9vbGJsaXA= โ†’ Toolblip

The page opens in Encode mode, so switch to Decode before you paste.

Quick answers for Base64 Encoder/Decoder

How do I decode Base64 back to text?
Set the mode to Decode, then paste the Base64 string. The decoded UTF-8 text appears as you type. The page opens in Encode mode by default, so check the mode first.
Does decoding need the = padding?
No. If the string has no = signs and its length needs them, the tool adds the padding before decoding. Spaces and line breaks are ignored.
Why does a Base64URL string fail?
Decode accepts the standard + and / alphabet only. Base64URL uses - and _ instead, so those strings return Invalid Base64 string - cannot decode.
Does this support files or images?
This page encodes UTF-8 text and decodes Base64 back to UTF-8 text. It has no file upload or image preview - use Base64 Image Converter for those.
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Anyone can reverse the encoding. It does not protect a secret.
Does my text leave the browser?
No. Encode and decode run locally. For a full three-part JWT, use JWT Decoder instead of decoding segments by hand.
