The birthday message Tom Brady wrote for Jack (Instagram)
Tom Brady turned 49 just three weeks ago. He spent that birthday on a yacht, surrounded by all three of his kids, watching them hand him gifts one by one. It was the kind of moment that tells you something about where his head is right now. So when his eldest son Jack turned 19 on Friday, Brady did not hold back. He went to Instagram with a carousel of photos, a string of jokes, and a line at the end that quietly said more than a birthday caption probably should.

What did Tom Brady say in his birthday message to Jack Moynahan?

Brady's post opened with the date. "Happy 19th birthday, Jack! 🎉 , Aug 22, 2007 is a day I'll never forget," he wrote, "because that's when you showed up and stole my heart (and my sleep... and my patience... hahahaha)."He went on to call Jack kind, thoughtful, empathetic, and full of love before landing on the line that stuck with a lot of people: "I can't wait to see what's next." Five words at the end of a birthday caption. But given that Brady has spent the last year being fairly deliberate about hinting at reinvention, those five words carry some weight.“You’re kind, thoughtful, empathetic, and full of love! And I’m so proud of who you have become.
You fill my heart with so much joy and I’m blessed to be your dad. I can't wait to see what’s next.”
One photo in the carousel showed Jack slam-dunking a basketball. Brady reposted it separately to his Stories with a caption that was equal parts impressed and gently self-deprecating: "Don't think I could do that at 19." For the record, Jack is already taller than his father. He plays basketball for The Newman School in Boston, where he is currently enrolled. In a video posted to the school's Instagram, Jack moves around the court with a natural ease that makes the athletic gene line feel pretty hard to argue with. He graduated from high school in the Bronx in June, posing for photos in his cap and gown with both Brady and his mother, actress Bridget Moynahan, standing on either side of him.

Who is Jack Moynahan and does he play sports like Tom Brady?

Jack is Brady's oldest child, born from his relationship with Moynahan before Brady married Gisele Bundchen. Brady also has 16-year-old son Benjamin and 13-year-old daughter Vivian with Bundchen. All three kids were on the yacht for Brady's 49th birthday on August 3, which he marked with a photo and a joke about return on investment.Jack is not following his father into football. Basketball is his sport of choice. But the athleticism is clearly there. Brady told reporters in 2024 that parenting three kids across two relationships means constantly working to give them perspective. "There's definitely some challenges and there's a lot of blessings," he said at the time.

"You just got to deal with it all in the best way you can."He has also been open about what he actually wants for his kids long term. "I want to try to guide my kids into a life of purpose and one that they can find their joy and happiness," he said. It is the kind of thing that sounds like a line until you see him post it on a birthday, and then it starts to feel genuine.Moynahan, who turned 55 this year, marked the day in her own way. She reposted an anonymous quote to Instagram that read: "The love of my life doesn't call me with romantic words or nicknames. The love of my life calls me 'mom.'" No tag, no caption. She did not need one.
