AI recruiting software, sorted by the hiring stage it fixes

AI recruiting software, also called AI recruitment, AI hiring or AI talent acquisition software, uses AI to do a stage of hiring work: sourcing, outreach, screening, interviewing, scheduling or tracking. Most products cover 1 or 2. The Cognitive covers sourcing, outreach and interviewing in one account: it searches ~900M public profiles, then interviews your picks live on video with AI.

How I ranked this AI recruitment software

Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive, so read the top spot as my judgment. I put it first because one account searches ~900M public profiles, invites the people you pick and interviews them live on video with AI, at a published price. TestGorilla now covers both halves too, so I make no claim that we are alone in that.

After #1, I ranked by how much of the find-to-interview chain one product covers. I have not used the other 7 on a paid account; I judged them from their own websites. TestGorilla wins on skills tests, with a library of 350+. Gem, Workable and Loxo are systems of record first.

Pin and TestGorilla both have a free plan you can open without a sales call. The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits.

AI recruiting tools by hiring stage

Start here. Most recruitment tools, hiring tools and talent acquisition tools cover a slice of the funnel, so the stage you pick decides the shortlist. Vendors named are those whose own sites describe that stage.

What is AI recruiting software?

AI recruiting software Software that applies artificial intelligence to recruitment work: reading a brief, judging a profile, writing a message, holding an interview or summarising one, rather than only storing and routing records.

A recruiter types one line about the hire. AI powered recruiting software turns it into filters, ranks people and explains each result. Keyword search returns whoever contains the words, in no particular order.

What is an AI recruitment platform?

An AI recruitment platform is one product that runs several hiring stages with AI, such as sourcing, outreach and interviewing, and passes each candidate between them itself. A point tool covers one stage. Both should plug into your ATS.

Separate point toolsOne AI recruitment platform
Depth at a single stageUsually deeper. The vendor's whole roadmap sits on that stage.Usually broader and shallower, with one or two strong stages.

How it works with your ATSEach tool needs its own connection, so one candidate can pick up a separate record or note from every tool. One connection brings candidates in and sends results back, so the ATS stays the record of truth.

The Cognitive connects to 60+ ATSs. For candidates imported from yours, it writes back a note with score, summary and report link. Stages never move.

What AI sourcing looks like: a brief becomes a search

One line of plain English, read into filters about the person and about their current employer, then searched and ranked.

The Cognitive starts at sourcing. You write one line about the hire. It is parsed into structured filters in 2 groups, about the person and about their current employer, and searched across ~900M public profiles. Every result is judged against your requirements.

AI recruiting software vendors, grouped by stage

AI recruiting platforms and artificial intelligence recruitment vendors, described from each one's own site on 19 Sep 2026. No prices here: models differ and move. No performance claims either.

hireEZ positions itself as one talent acquisition platform running agentic AI on top of the ATS you already have.

Sourcing across what it describes as Open Web, Deep Search and partner networks over 45+ platforms; the vendor states a billion-plus profiles. Voice AI screening, calendar sync and scheduling, a talent CRM and career sites.

Its site positions it as a layer over your ATS, with no rip-and-replace of the system of record.

SeekOut describes an agentic AI recruiting platform for sourcing, screening and engaging candidates at scale.

Context-aware search over what the vendor states as 1B+ profiles, same-day AI evaluation of every applicant, tailored outreach messages, and bidirectional ATS sync naming Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS and Lever.

Its site now also describes AI video screening interviews, so check where screening ends and interviewing begins.

Juicebox, known for PeopleGPT, sells natural-language candidate search and AI sourcing agents.

Search over what the vendor states as 800M+ profiles across 30+ sources, personalised sequences, always-on sourcing agents, and ATS sync naming Lever, Greenhouse, Ashby and SmartRecruiters.

Its site describes sourcing and outreach. It does not describe interviewing or scheduling.

GoPerfect is AI recruiting software whose H1 reads "The AI Recruiting Agent That Sources, Screens & Engages".

One agent for sourcing, screening and outreach across email, LinkedIn and SMS, over what the vendor states as 800M+ profiles, with explainable 1 to 5 scores and connections to 60+ ATS systems including Greenhouse, Lever and Workday.

Its homepage shows no pricing and no self-serve trial, so expect a sales conversation before you see it.

Gem describes an "AI-first recruiting platform" combining ATS, CRM, sourcing, scheduling, fraud detection and pipeline analytics.

An AI sourcing agent over what the vendor states as 800M+ profiles, an app review agent, a fraud detection agent, and native integration with Greenhouse, Workday, Lever and iCIMS.

It aims to be the system of record. That is a migration decision, not a point purchase.

Paradox sells "Conversational hiring software that gets work done for you" and has been part of Workday since 1 Oct 2025.

Screening through chat or text, candidate self-scheduling, a conversational ATS, career sites, events and CRM, plus offer letters and onboarding documents. Workday describes it as a candidate experience agent for frontline hiring.

Its site is built around frontline and high-volume applicant flow, not passive-candidate sourcing.

Humanly describes "AI recruiting software" for hourly, frontline and high-volume hiring teams.

AI Recruiter, AI Interviewer, AI Notetaker, a talent CRM and an ATS in one platform, with structured AI video, voice and async interviews at any hour, and integrations naming Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, UKG, Oracle Taleo, iCIMS, Greenhouse and Avature.

The positioning is volume applicant flow. Teams hiring 2 senior engineers are not the described buyer.

GoodTime handles complex enterprise interview scheduling, from 1:1 interviews to multi-day panels.

Branded self-scheduling and a candidate portal, interviewer selection and auto-replacement, SMS and WhatsApp messaging, an AI agent named Cori, and ATS integrations with Ashby, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Jobvite, Lever, SmartRecruiters, SuccessFactors and Workday.

Scheduling and coordination are the centre of its site; it also lists applicant screening. It does not describe sourcing.

HireVue is an AI recruitment platform built around AI interviewing and assessment.

An AI Interviewer running what it calls dynamic, voice-based interviews on job-relevant competencies at any hour, assessments, and an interview co-pilot that joins live Zoom or Teams calls to capture notes. It states it enriches 45+ ATSs.

Its own copy says recruiters remain responsible for evaluating candidates and making final hiring decisions.

The Cognitive runs sourcing, outreach and first-round interviews on top of the ATS you already use.

A plain-English brief becomes ranked results, each with a "Why this match" line. Email and SMS sequences stop on reply. A live two-way AI video interview returns a transcript and report, written back to the ATS for imported candidates.

It does not post jobs or host a careers page. It pairs with the ATS you already run.

On pricing

Pricing models in this category differ by seat, credit, interview and annual contract, and they change. Third-party lists quote figures that disagree with each other. Read the vendor's own pricing page, and ask exactly what is metered.

AI recruitment services: software you run, or a team that runs it?

A search for AI recruitment services usually means one of 2 things: an agency that uses AI to fill your roles, or software your own team runs. The Cognitive is the second. It is self-serve software, not an agency, so nobody here recruits on your behalf. Agencies can run it for their clients, though: the interview report goes to a client as a read-only link.

If you deliver recruiting as a service, start from the page for your kind of hiring: recruitment agencies, staffing agencies, executive search, high-volume hiring, campus recruiting or recruitment automation. Each explains how sourcing and the AI interview fit that motion.

From shortlist to reply: outreach that stops itself

A Day 0, +3, +4 cadence with personalisation variables, sent from platform mailboxes.

Sourcing only pays off if people answer. On Sourcing Pro, Max, Team and Business, The Cognitive sends email and SMS sequences from platform mailboxes, with replies coming back to you and personalisation variables filled from the role. A reply or opt-out on either channel stops both, so nobody gets a follow-up after they have already said yes.

How to integrate AI recruiting tools with your ATS

However good the AI for recruiting is, its output still has to land in your ATS. The integration decides whether a tool saves time or creates a second place to look. Ask these 6 questions first.

  1. Decide what your system of record is Name the one system a hiring manager opens to see the truth. Then list what has to land in it from the new tool: stage, score, notes, report.
  2. Check the integration type Native marketplace integration, a unified API provider that connects many ATSs through one interface, a CSV or sheet import, or a browser extension. Each has a different failure mode.
  3. Check the direction of travel Import only, or genuine write-back. Greenhouse states its Harvest API can update candidate information, add attachments, and advance, move and reject applications. The Cognitive imports candidates from 60+ ATSs, Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby among them, and writes back a note with score, summary and report link. It never moves a stage.
  4. Scope the API key Greenhouse lets you specify which endpoints a key can reach, from its Dev Center. Many write calls also need an On-Behalf-Of header naming a user, which Greenhouse states is for auditing.
  5. Map stages in both directions Agree which ATS stage each tool status corresponds to, both ways. Then run 1 real role end to end before you connect the rest. Interview completed in the tool becomes which stage in the ATS, and what writes back if the candidate is rejected?
  6. Confirm reject and re-apply behaviour Ask what happens when a candidate is rejected in one system, and when the same person applies again 6 months later. This is where duplicate records begin.

Laws that now cover AI hiring tools

New York City Local Law 144 of 2021 prohibits employers and employment agencies from using an automated employment decision tool unless it has had a bias audit within 1 year of use, information about that audit is published, and notice has been given to candidates or employees at least 10 business days before use. The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection began enforcement on 5 Jul 2023.

Illinois Public Act 103-0804 amended the Illinois Human Rights Act and took effect on 1 Jan 2026. It makes it a civil rights violation to use AI with a discriminatory effect on protected classes in recruitment or hiring, to use zip codes as a proxy for those classes, or to fail to notify employees that AI is in use. The EEOC states federal law applies to AI at work.

Colorado's SB26-189, signed on 14 May 2026, repealed and re-enacted the state's earlier AI Act (SB24-205) with new rules on automated decision-making technology in consequential decisions. Its duties start on 1 Jan 2027. The EU AI Act, Annex III point 4(a), lists AI used to recruit or select people as high-risk, and the European Commission says those obligations now apply from 2 Dec 2027. None of this is legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

What are AI recruiting tools?

AI recruiting tools are software that uses AI to do a piece of recruiting work rather than only storing records. Greenhouse's glossary lists uses including job description and interview question generation, sourcing and outreach, candidate filtering, resume anonymisation and interview transcription. In practice AI tools for recruiters cluster around 7 stages: job post, sourcing, outreach, screening, interviewing, scheduling and tracking. Most AI for recruiters covers 1 or 2 of them, which is why HR teams end up running several.

What does an AI hiring tool do?

An AI hiring tool does one piece of hiring work that used to need a person: finding candidates, writing outreach, screening applicants, running a first interview, scheduling or taking notes. Most do 1 or 2 of those well. An AI powered recruitment platform strings several together, so a candidate moves from search to interview without an export. The Cognitive covers sourcing, email and SMS outreach from Sourcing Pro up, and a live two-way AI video interview, and connects to your ATS rather than replacing it.

What is the best AI recruiting software?

My pick is The Cognitive if you need to find people and interview them in one self-serve account; I run it, so treat that as judgment. Then TestGorilla, Eightfold AI, Phenom, Gem, Workable, Loxo and Pin, ranked in the table above. Any list of the best AI recruiting tools for 2026 is really a list of stage winners, so name your bottleneck first and use the bottleneck table. For a vendor-by-vendor grid, see all the tools we track, compared.

How do AI hiring tools differ from traditional recruiting software?

Traditional recruiting software stores and routes records, posts jobs and matches literal keywords. AI powered recruiting tools read unstructured text, a brief, a profile or a spoken answer, and return a judgement with reasons, a draft message or a conversation. Recruiting AI rarely replaces the applicant tracking system. It sits alongside it and feeds it, which is why the integration question matters more than the feature list.

What makes recruiting software AI-powered?

Recruiting software is AI-powered when a model does part of the judgement work, not only the storage and routing. Test it with a plain-English brief, a profile or a spoken answer, and see whether it returns a ranking with reasons, a draft or a follow-up question. Keyword filters with an AI label do not count. In The Cognitive, a brief becomes editable filters, each result card gives a "Why this match" line, and the live AI interview picks its follow-up questions from the candidate's answers.

What is the difference between AI screening software and AI interviewing?

AI screening software checks applicants against minimum criteria, usually by reading the resume or asking knock-out questions over chat or text. AI interviewing tests whether someone can do the job, by asking questions and following up on the answers. Paradox screens through chat or text for high-volume hiring, while HireVue and Humanly run AI interviews. The Cognitive does no chat screening: it runs a live two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes, with a rubric fixed per role and follow-ups chosen live.

How does AI candidate matching software work?

AI candidate matching software reads a role description, compares each profile against it and ranks people with reasons, where keyword search returns whoever contains the words. In The Cognitive, a plain-English brief becomes structured filters and every person is judged against its must-haves. Anyone missing a must-have drops below the people who meet it; nobody is removed. Each result card opens with a "Why this match" line traced to the profile, and there is no percentage score.

Why are recruiting teams buying AI recruiting software now?

The work grew faster than the teams did. Ashby's 2026 Recruiter Productivity report, built on more than 109M applications, found applications per hire tripled from 2021 to 2024 and stayed above 300 through 2025. Gem's 2026 Recruiting Benchmarks report found recruiters handling 93% more applications than in 2021, with 13.4 open roles each. In the same Gem data, direct sourcing produced 11% of hires from 2.6% of applications. So the software pays off twice: it reads the inbound pile faster, and it finds people who never applied.

How do I integrate AI recruiting tools with my ATS?

Decide which system is the record of truth and what must land in it. Check whether the tool connects natively, through a unified API provider, by CSV or by extension, and whether it only imports or genuinely writes back. Greenhouse, for example, states its Harvest API can update candidates, add attachments and advance, move or reject applications, with keys scoped per endpoint. The Cognitive connects to 60+ ATSs through one integration, imports candidates and writes a note with score, summary and report link back for the ones it imported.

Do AI recruiting tools replace recruiters?

No. What AI recruitment tools take on is search, first contact, first-round interviewing and note-taking. People still set the bar, decide who advances and own the offer conversation. Greenhouse's own guidance is to keep humans in the loop and audit the models regularly, and HireVue's site describes keeping people in control of final hiring decisions. Recruitment AI changes where a recruiter's hours go, not whether judgement is needed.

Is AI recruiting software legal, and do I have to tell candidates?

Yes, AI hiring tools are legal to use in the US and the EU, but several jurisdictions now set conditions, including notice. New York City requires a bias audit within 1 year of use plus notice at least 10 business days before an automated employment decision tool is used. Illinois has required notice since 1 Jan 2026. Colorado's SB26-189 duties start on 1 Jan 2027. The EEOC states federal anti-discrimination law already applies. This is not legal advice; check the statutes and your counsel.

How many AI recruiting tools does a team need?

Start with 1, for the stage costing you the most hours. Add a second only once the first is producing evidence you trust and your team actually opens it. Two tools covering the same stage is the common failure: it creates two sets of candidate records, two sets of scores and a reconciliation job nobody owns.

Is there free AI recruiting software?

Several vendors advertised a free entry point on their own sites when this page was checked on 19 Sep 2026: hireEZ and Juicebox each showed a try-for-free link, SeekOut a free trial, Metaview a start-for-free option. Others, such as GoPerfect, show no self-serve trial at all. On 4 Oct 2026, Pin and TestGorilla each showed a free plan. The Cognitive has self-serve signup with a free trial. Terms in AI recruiting technology change often, so check the vendor's own site rather than a third-party list.

How do you verify qualifications for an AI specialist hire?

Ask for work you can inspect, such as code, papers or systems that shipped, then probe 1 claimed project in depth with follow-up questions until you can tell what this person did and what the team did. Generic answers about model families are cheap; decisions and trade-offs are not. The Cognitive's scorecard marks resume claims as verified, refuted or unclear with the evidence behind each verdict.

What is AI talent acquisition software?

AI talent acquisition software uses AI across attracting, finding, assessing and hiring people, and in enterprise suites it reaches into internal mobility too. Eightfold AI and Phenom sell it as talent intelligence, starting with a demo. Smaller teams usually buy one stage instead. The Cognitive covers sourcing and the first interview: it searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief, then interviews the people you invite live on video with AI.

What is the difference between AI recruitment software and an ATS?

An applicant tracking system (ATS) is the record of your hiring: jobs, applicants, stages and offers. AI recruitment software does work on top of it, such as finding people, writing outreach or interviewing. Some ATSs, Workable and Gem among them, now ship AI agents inside. The Cognitive is not an ATS: it posts no jobs and sends no offers. It connects to 60+ ATSs and writes a note back for candidates it imported from yours.

How much does AI hiring software cost?

It depends on the pricing model, and many vendors publish no price. Of the 8 tools ranked above, Eightfold AI and Phenom start with a demo, while TestGorilla, Workable, Loxo and Pin publish plans and Gem shows some tiers. Models run per seat, per company size, per credit or per annual contract. AI Sourcing and AI Interview each start at $99/month on The Cognitive. Credits work as 1 credit per person a search shows, 4 to reveal an email, 12 to reveal a phone number.

Which AI recruiting software can source and interview candidates?

Among the 8 ranked above, The Cognitive and TestGorilla both search a large outside profile pool and run AI interviews with follow-up questions, self-serve. The Cognitive runs a live two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes in 9 languages, with a rubric fixed per role and questions that adapt live. Its report gives a 1 to 5 score per criterion, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict and a check on up to 5 resume claims.

Does AI recruiting software work for recruitment agencies?

Yes, and agencies usually want sourcing plus a record their clients can see. Loxo builds sourcing into an agency ATS and CRM with a hiring manager portal. The Cognitive sits beside your agency ATS: it connects to Bullhorn, JobAdder, JobDiva and Crelate among 60+ systems, and its interview report can go to a client as a read-only link with scores, written feedback and the recording. On Loxo, Vincere or Recruit CRM, use a CSV upload plus that report link.

Which AI recruitment software works for IT hiring?

For IT hiring, pick AI recruitment software that reads a technical brief precisely and tests depth in the interview. In The Cognitive, the brief "Senior backend engineer with 5+ years of Go who has built payments systems, Remote EU" became editable filters, with Remote EU read as Germany plus 7 other countries. Each result card gives a "Why this match" line, such as Go listed in skills, and the live AI interview follows up on vague technical answers. SeekOut and Juicebox are other sourcing options for tech roles.

Who is The Cognitive built for?

I built it for small and mid-sized teams, and for agencies, filling hard roles without a big recruiting bench. Keep your ATS: The Cognitive posts no jobs, sends no offers, and writes a note back only for candidates imported from it. Pair it with your calendar tool for human rounds, because candidates book only their AI interview slot here, without an account. Keep LinkedIn Recruiter if InMail is your main channel, since outreach here is email and SMS, from the Sourcing Pro plan up.

Can AI recruiting software be biased?

Yes. Bias can enter through training data, proxies such as zip codes, or the criteria you set, which is why Illinois bans zip-code proxies and New York City requires a yearly bias audit for automated employment decision tools. Ask each vendor for its audit. Eightfold AI links to AI Interviewer bias audit results from its homepage; The Cognitive has no published bias audit. In The Cognitive, nothing is rejected automatically and integrity flags are logged, not scored.
