MCP server for AI agents

Give your AI agent a phone number.

The textbee MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, and any MCP-enabled agent send and read SMS through your own Android phone. Open source, no per-message markup.

Install in your client

Grab an API key from your textbee dashboard (free tier works) and pair the Android app if you have not yet. Claude apps connect in the browser with your API key. Other clients run the server locally with npx.

Connector URL
https://mcp.textbee.dev/mcp
  1. In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Enter the name textbee and the URL above. Click Continue twice.
  4. Under Authentication choose Sign in now. Leave OAuth client on the recommended option. Click Add.
  5. Paste your API key on the textbee sign-in page and click Connect.

One connection works in claude.ai on the web, Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps. No Node.js, no config file. Add it on the web or desktop first; the mobile apps then use it. Reconnect every 90 days.

Self-hosting textbee? Add TEXTBEE_BASE_URL with your instance URL to the env block. The /api/v1 suffix is optional and added automatically.

Three tools, everything an agent needs

send_sms

Send a text to one or many recipients from your own number. The agent sees delivery cost hints like segment counts, and every send flows through your plan limits.

get_messages

Read messages across every device on the account: wait for a reply, pick up an OTP, or check the delivery status of a send, with cursor pagination that never misses a message.

list_devices

See the phones on the account, which one sends by default, and when each last checked in.

Then just ask

  • “Text +1 555 0134 that the deploy finished, and let me know when the message is delivered.”
  • “Watch for a verification code from my bank and read it back to me.”
  • “Did anyone reply to the reminder I sent this morning?”

Built to be trusted with your number

You control the key

With the local server, the API key stays in your own client config and goes only to the textbee API. With the hosted connector, textbee checks the key and never stores it. The server is open source (MIT), and you can revoke the key from your dashboard at any time.

Nothing to deploy

Add the hosted connector in Claude, or let npx run the server locally. Your paired Android phone does the sending. No SIM rental, no per-message markup on top of your plan.

Built for how agents work

Three focused tools with clear descriptions, honest errors an agent can act on, and plan limits enforced server-side so a runaway loop cannot outspend your plan.

How the hosted connector works

The hosted connector is a streamable HTTP endpoint with the same three tools and the same plan limits as the local server. Use it in any client that cannot launch a local server.

Endpoint
https://mcp.textbee.dev/mcp
Claude
Add it as a custom connector and paste your API key on the textbee sign-in page. One connection covers the web, Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps, and lasts 90 days. Claude Code signs in the same way through /mcp.
Other clients
Send your API key as the bearer token or an x-textbee-api-key header. Cursor and VS Code use this form.

The trade-off, stated plainly: with the hosted endpoint your key passes through textbee's server on every request. textbee does not log or store it, but it does leave your machine. Through Claude, the key travels inside an encrypted token that Claude keeps for the connection, and revoking the key in the dashboard disconnects it. When you want the key to stay with you, use the local server.

Frequently asked questions
