Final exam grade calculator

Paste what you've graded so far and this tool tells you what you need on the final exam to land a target grade. Enter either a single current average, or completed work as category;weight;result lines — one assignment or test per line, with its weight in the final grade and the percentage you scored. The calculator combines those with the exam's own weight and reports the percent, and points, still needed — or says plainly when the goal is out of reach.

Set the exam's weight as a percent of the overall grade, and the target however your course states it: a straight percentage, a point total out of the course's total points, or a letter or number grade on a 1–5 or A–F scale — a grade target is converted into the percentage threshold it represents. Add the exam's maximum points to see the needed score in points as well as percent, and turn on the outcome table to preview the overall result for several possible exam scores at once, from zero to a perfect paper. Decimal places and a plain-text or aligned-table output are both adjustable.

Lines that can't be read as category;weight;result are skipped rather than breaking the calculation, and the tool reports how many were skipped. Windows and Unix line endings are handled the same way, and a decimal comma ("85,5") or a trailing percent sign both parse fine. When the target can't be reached even with a perfect exam, the result says so and shows the best score still possible.

Everything runs locally in your browser — no gradebook, course name or score is ever uploaded. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it back into the input to try another scenario.

FAQ

What format should my list of grades use?
One line per graded item, as category;weight;result — for example 'Midterm;30;78'. The weight and result are both plain numbers; the category name is optional.
Can I enter just my current average instead of a full list?
Yes. If the input is a single number, it's treated as your average on everything graded so far, and the exam weight fills in the rest.
What happens if the target isn't achievable?
The result shows how far short a perfect exam score would fall, along with the best overall result that is still possible.
How does a grade-scale target get converted?
Each grade on the chosen scale (1–5 or A–F) has a minimum overall percentage. The calculator targets that threshold, the same one used to grade the exam outcomes shown in the table.
Is my gradebook uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — your grades and course details never leave your device.
