Addresses and domains
Every page has an address under statoss.com from the start. On Pro it can have your own.
Addresses
Every page is served at <address>.statoss.com and at statoss.com/s/<address>. On Free the address is assigned: the page name as a label plus four random characters, such as northwind-k3f9. Hobby and Pro choose their own (three or more lowercase letters, digits and hyphens) and can change it later; the old address stops working when it does.
Your own domain, on Pro
- Under the page's Settings, Domain, enter the hostname, for example
status.example.com. - StatOSS looks up where the domain's DNS is managed and shows the two records to add. Add a CNAME from the hostname to
edge.statoss.com. A bare domain cannot carry a CNAME; use the A and AAAA records shown on the settings page, or your provider's ALIAS or CNAME flattening. Where the provider supports Domain Connect, one click adds that record there. - Add a TXT record named
_statossunder the hostname, such as_statoss.statusforstatus.example.com(just_statossfor a bare domain), with the valuestatoss-verify=and the token shown for the page. It shows the domain is yours: every customer's domain points at the same address, so the CNAME alone says nothing about who the domain belongs to. Each page has its own token. - StatOSS checks both and says which one it did not find. Once the TXT record has been seen the page owns the domain until it is changed or removed, and the certificate is issued on the first visit and renewed from then on.
A hostname that another page has stored but is not serving moves to a page whose own TXT record is in DNS; adding it says which record to add. A page that is serving its hostname keeps it until it lets it go. A domain stored without the record is never served, whatever DNS points at.
The assigned address keeps working alongside the domain, and search engines are told the domain is the real one. If the account leaves Pro, the domain stays on the page but is not served: visitors are sent to the StatOSS address until the page is back on Pro.
