Admin By Request Endpoint Privilege Management

Pros: I like how easy it is to approve requests for admin requests and sessions. The ability to receive a push notification is beautiful. I love that there is an easy solution for users that don't have internet access as well. We did a demo of other similar software as well, and the software does not appear to handle offline users nearly as easy and intuitive as your software does.

Cons: Setting up legacy printer installs was rather difficult, as printer installs would fail unless provided an Admin Session. We have found a solution by adding the legacy install wizard to the ABR right-click tools menu on the icon down by the time and date, but if you don't use the ABR tool menu, or request a session, we have not been able to find a way to preauthorize installs this way. The issue might be due to us handling printer installs in an old-school fashion, and I'm glad there was some solution. The change will require a bit of teaching to our end users and IT personnel but overall is very minor compared to the benefits.

Overall: I love this product for our business need. We were able to extensively demo this product with little pressure to buy immediately. The competitors not only limited our testing time but also pressured us to buy in less than 24 hours after starting the tests. Due to our small IT Team and large amount of company computers, business software needs, and differences in job titles, extended testing was necessary to ensure the software worked for everyone and didn't just look good on paper. Turns out, both were true!

In a perfect world, we would not need software like this, but due to the security flaws in some of the old software our business requires, this software has helped cover the security gap of giving all users "Local Admin" and will require very minimal change in processes to use.

Pros: It has been pretty easy to set up and use. It lets users get admin access when they need it without us having to give them permanent admin rights. It also gives IT more control over what users are installing.

Cons: We have run into a few small issues with things that used to work without admin access, like installing printers. We are still working through some of those things as we roll it out.

Overall: So far it has worked well for us. We are still pretty new to it, but it seems easy for both IT and users to use.

Pros: Admin By Request provides a practical way to manage local administrator privileges without permanently giving users elevated access. It allows IT to maintain better control over endpoints while still giving users a straightforward way to request elevation when they legitimately need it. The approval process, auditing, and visibility into elevation requests are especially useful from an administrative and security perspective. It has helped us balance security with usability without creating unnecessary work for the IT team.

Cons: There is some initial configuration and policy tuning required to make sure the experience fits your environment and does not create unnecessary requests for IT. Some applications and workflows also require testing to determine the best elevation rules. Once the policies are dialed in, however, the day-to-day administration is fairly straightforward. Printers and random messages after install about it being a server instead of a PC, where the big ones.

Overall: My overall experience with Admin By Request Endpoint Privilege Management has been very positive. As a systems administrator, I am always looking for ways to improve endpoint security without making everyday tasks unnecessarily difficult for users or increasing the support burden on IT. Admin By Request provides a good middle ground by removing the need for permanent local administrator access while still allowing legitimate elevation when required.

From an IT administration standpoint, I particularly appreciate the visibility and control it provides around privileged activity. Instead of simply granting administrator rights and hoping they are used appropriately, we have a much clearer process for handling elevation. The product is relatively easy to manage, integrates well into an enterprise endpoint environment, and provides useful auditing capabilities. Overall, it has been a valuable addition to our endpoint security strategy.

Pros: Offline mode was very important for us. Being able to give a challenge and response pin code to elevate users when they are in the field with no internet is what really sold us on this product

Cons: Getting some of the pre approvals set up isnt always the most straightforward. If you have software that is cut and dry with certificates its great. But if you have custom software or unsigned manufacturer software its more tricky getting it set up to run automatically while being as secure as possible

Overall: We Demoed a few options and pricing and functionality ABR was the top dog. The UI, functions, and Pin code admin access were great features that made us decide to go with this product.

Pros: Admin By Request is easy to use and makes allowing users to install applications a breeze. It also makes it straightforward to let users manage settings on their Windows and Mac devices.

Cons: I do not have any specific drawbacks to highlight in this review.

Overall: Overall, Admin By Request is a stellar product. Its ease of use stands out, especially when allowing users to install applications and manage settings on Windows and Mac devices. I would give it five stars across the board.

Pros: ABR is great at managing privileged access on both Windows and macOS. It allows greater control of what users can and cannot do on their systems, with the flexibility of being able to grant elevated privileges when needed.

Cons: Sometimes, the settings don't work, such as exemptions for removing admin at login

Overall: Overall, I feel that AdminByRequest is a great value and would recommend it to any colleague looking for a privilege access management solution

Additionally, the mobile app delivers a seamless experience, enabling users to stay productive and connected from anywhere while maintaining access to key features and functionality. Overall, it is a reliable and user-friendly solution that balances administration, usability, and mobility exceptionally well.

Cons: Some apps do not prompt ABR, but UAC. The cons don't outweigh the pros.

Overall: I've been using ABR for a few years and plan on extending into the future. It meets our needs as a tool towards zero trust.

Pros: Ease of Implementation, Straight forward documentation and security requirements. Sales Support Rep where there to walk us all the way through,

Cons: Wasn't able to get SNOW to auto approve request, still working with ABR to see if this can be done

Overall: Overall a great experience. It was the solution that the organization was looking for. Very easy to implement.

Pros: Super easy to setup and roll out. Can set automation rules so apps are auto approved based on publisher or application reputation. Mobile device works quickly for responding to requests.

Cons: One annoyance is that the Windows UAC window doesn’t get auto populated like it does with Auto Elevate. You have to make sure to right click to run as administrator in order for it to work which takes time to get used to.

Overall: Overall love the product. It has made it easier for staff to self service without needing to remote into devices or manually push out applications. Helps keep our laptops secure and control which applications get installed.

Overall: Phenomenal tool for small to medium sized businesses. It does exactly what we need without any extra weight. Highly recommend.

Pros: Admin By Request is generally very easy to navigate, making day-to-day administration straightforward. The mobile app is excellent, and it's simple to configure application filters and tie approval workflows to applications like Microsoft Teams, which makes approving requests while away from your desk quick and convenient.

Cons: These are minor complaints, but setting up administrative access within the platform is less intuitive than other areas of the product and could benefit from a more streamlined experience. Endpoint deletion also feels more cumbersome than it should be, as the navigation makes the process harder to find and complete efficiently.

Overall: Admin By Request has been a great solution for our organization, and I would highly recommend it. We previously used Thycotic Privilege Manager, and Admin By Request has proven to be significantly easier to maintain while still providing the functionality we need.

Pros: Breadth of functionality - this app was clearly made by folks who have encountered the struggles with admin access in a real world enterprise setting, and it shows. The ease of setup and configuration are common-sense. It's incredibly configurable!

Cons: Sometimes there are issues with the app detecting someone is in an admin group already, and puts them into the "Red Icon" mode, despite them not having admin privileges. Usually fixed with an uninstall/reinstall, but haven't been able to find a root cause

Overall: Having reviewed other solutions, this is the only one I'd recommend for it's ease of use, flexibility, and feature set. Admin By Request is the standard by which the competition is compared

Pros: Admin By Request allowed us to finally solve the problem of local admin access on our campus without the need to expand our team to support the influx of requests.

Cons: Mac support is functional, but is more limited than Windows functionality.

Overall: Overall this tool has helped our organization move into a far more secure and functional state. It's easy enough for our users to interact with.

Pros: Avoids unnecessary support tickets for standard UAC elevation. Automate normal tasks, and allow full admin sessions when necessary. No more heartburn over the unknown number of domain machines with local admin rights.

Cons: 25 Free lifetime licenses don't transfer once you purchase additional licenses. Would be nice if they were still available.

Overall: Works exactly as we were expecting. Allows us to lock down domain machines with zero trust and no local admin rights while also allowing advanced users the ability to get their work done without creating endless support requests.

Overall: Efficiently cuts local admin risks while reducing helpdesk support tickets. Normally, ripping away admin rights causes hassles, but we were able to do it in a week. Aside from a slight learning curve during the initial policy tuning phase and some minor dashboard clutter, the platform delivers exactly what was promised.

Pros: It gives us a view into who is elevating and when. The sub-settings allow us to set a different set of rules based on the user role.

Cons: If you go over your license count, there is no grace period, anything over is unlicensed and activity is hidden in the portal. It would be helpful to be able to add licenses directly in the Admin Portal.

Overall: Great product, just would be nice to have autonomy when it comes to license adjustments. Overall a good product though.

Pros: Users being able to request administrative elevation remotely when a game patch or new content pack needs installed has helped us immensely with weekend matches when on-site staff support is unavailable.
Whitelisting anti cheat software and other crucial game services that are required to run has been a huge help. The inventory management aspects of ABR have been great, and I'm just starting to scratch the surface with their Remote Access tools. Great product, great support.

Cons: I wish we could archive existing assets for long-term record keeping.
Maybe I'm missing it but when I've had to take units out of service, being able to archive the record of that machine instead of deleting the entry while freeing up a license would make my audit paperwork much easier.

Overall: We've utilized Admin By Request for about 3 years now. I've been managing the Esports equipment for about 4. Before ABR, it was a nightmare of me working weekends or late nights to ensure our Esports matches went smoothly.
Since utilizing ABR for our needs, the Esports freedom with safeguards and boundaries has been great. Allowing the users in the labs to install software updates, being able to monitor what is being installed on machines, and enabling guided access for users to ensure their sessions are productive have been huge positives for us as our IT staff is small (4 people on site).

Pros: Easy install (via Intune). Just works; have never had an issue with it. It is the perfect solution to stop allowing your users to be a Local Admin all day, every day. They only get Admin when the NEED it. It's good balance of security and being able to do your job.

Cons: We have not had any issues with this product. It just works.

Overall: Easy product to install and work with. Customer support is excellent. Allowed us to be more secure without upsetting the users (too much).
