Apache Ossie is an open-source initiative developing a vendor-neutral standard for exchanging semantic metadata across analytics, artificial intelligence, and business intelligence platforms. Formerly known as Open Semantic Interchange, it aims to establish consistent business definitions across different data tools. The specification uses JSON and YAML to represent reusable semantic models. It helps organizations describe metrics and business concepts without tying them to a proprietary platform. A shared semantic specification reduces inconsistencies when applications interpret the same underlying data. The repository includes machine-readable schemas, documentation, and example models based on TPC-DS. Validation utilities check whether models conform to the specification. The project is incubating under the Apache Software Foundation.
