I'm in the process of removing all exit() calls from the library so programs that use it are not crashing if one small thing doesn't work out - this is a step in direction of the library returning specific error codes if something doesn't work, which will strongly simplify error recovery in programs making use of it. The current code contains almost no exits anymore, the few last ones will be fixed soon.
The SVN repo has been reorganized and now contains the code for a C++ QT graphical user interface which is currently being written by DcMastor. We don't recommend to use this yet, as already make-ing it isn't straightforward, you'll have to add -lmcrypt and the like by yourself, so we advise to just wait for a beta release where everything is more polished. For the curious, check out the SVN repo.... read more
A security-uncritical segfault has just been fixed in SVN, nothing big, and it's still a workaround. Anyway, if things crash with a segfault, get the SVN code, it should work.
Hashing progress reporting has been added in the SVN code, as well as an offlinemode bug fixed and a few unused options marked for deletion soon. Nothing really user-noticeable. The manpage for the library now has progressed, more is to come soon.
This release sees a couple of minor bugs fixed, some code refinements here and there, and a new feature: Progress reporting. As already announced, the -p switch can be used to monitor the percentage of the encryption/decryption process and also the progress of up/downloads. The man page on how to use the library is still work in progress, sorry for the delay. The cli clients man page and help output have been updated though.
Head over to the releases page to get the new code.
Cheers
I've just done some work on the progress reporting, the code from the SVN repo can now be told to output a (still ugly, though) percentage report on how far it is with encrypting and uploading via the option "-p". I'm still working out the kinks and will be making the visuals a lot better soon.
Cheers
The directory mode feature has ultimately been dropped out of the library and determined for inclusion in the clients that use the library, for various reasons, i.e. the UNIX-philosophy: make a program do one thing and do it well. Hence, we decided to focus on the features currently implemented and brush those up. Work will continue now that our exams are over, we're planning on moving at least the library out of beta soon.
It has proven surprisingly difficult to find a cross-platform C library to easily create archives of directories, and hence the search for one still is underway.
Meanwhile, the QT Interface is being developed and the cli client and the library itself further refined. The most stable code will hence be in SVN and not in the current release, as we're working on fixing bugs all the time.
This release incorporates a large restructuring of the code in the upload and download routines - this is as a preparation for bigger feature additions down the road. A nasty bug in the usage of the curl lib was fixed too, so if you're using 32bit and swfs has never worked, it probably will now. And if it doesn't, write us a capslock'ed mail :P
Cheers
This release incorporates a new feature: a mode to encrypt and split locally for privacy on a computer or transfer over insecure harddrives etc. The code is not finalized yet and also not very beautiful, but the feature works fully. (Expect some weird error codes if things go wrong, though, haven't updated those yet). Have fun playing around.
Nothing to see here, just maintenance.
We currently are stabilizing the code, meaning we are improving the documentation of both the features and the code itself. At the same time, we are removing bugs, conducting testing and improving the code here and there. All this is in preparation for the new features to be implemented, one of which will be directory mode, where one can upload a whole directory with not more hassle than with a single file. Another one will be the addition of a QT interface, which simplifies the usage of the library a lot and makes the program accessible for the average user. As the php server script is improving, communication between the script and the library will be intensified, and used to further simplify the usage of all client interfaces. All those features are underway, but to guarantee a proper inclusion, we need stable code first.... read more
A few fixes were incorporated in this release, everything should work again now.
We found a couple of bugs in beta08 that resulted in serious showstoppers. The ones we've tracked down are already fixed in SVN, we're working on finding the rest of them soon. If anything doesn't work, just contact us, we know it's in beta and can really use any help in finding bugs.
Cheers, enjoy your May 1st
This release includes all the code reconstruction done to make the code reusable as a static library. The code that is specific for the commandline client has been moved to a separate cliui.c file for cleaner organization. Some bugs fixed.
To simplify the creation of interfaces both for GUI and CLI, we decided to reconstruct the current client code into a library and write separate interfaces that use this library. This will allow for multiple concurrent transfers with one UI, as well as other improvements and enhancements. The reconstruction will take about a week to complete, with a graphical interface to follow soon after.
A first QT GUI for our swfs client has been released.
NOTE: This alpha GUI is only a remote control for the command-line client, hence to use it, one needs to install swfs-client first.
Heck, I sat down and did this five-minute job anyway. The max transfer speed for up/downloads can now be specified by adding "-l speedinbytes" to the commandline, where speedinbytes is in bytes per second. Release will be out after further testing, features already in SVN. Enjoy.
The next few days will be quieter due to both developers being busy doing school-related things. We are available for support, though, so if anything is not working/unclear, just write to the forums or send an email. After this period, work will begin on archive/directory support, up/download rate limiting via options, and a cross-platform GUI.
Cheers, dante
A release is due out soon, as mentioned before. Until then, various code cleanups are being performed as a preparation for simplifications and improvements in efficiency overall. Next up on the feature road map are archive support (which means: compression is applied and one can use directories as input for upload) and after that, a GTK interface for those out there who don't like using a shell. The windows port is coming along well, but some hiccups still have to be fixed before a release.... read more
The current SVN code repositry has been updated with the new code that ditches the memory-based interface for part data and instead uses a file - this introduces a new feature: cancelled up- and downloads to FTP and HTTP can now be resumed by just re-invoking the appropriate command.
A release will follow soon, as some loose ends have to be fixed and some rough edges removed.
For the curious, check out the SVN code.
This release finally includes the split-file upload, enabled for both HTTP and FTP. The next thing to be included will be gz-compression coupled with directory upload on the client side. A server script release will follow quite soon, too.
- Changed ticket system to use libxml2
- Updated the README file
- Updated the help text
- Improved the Makefile
With the following features/changes to follow:
- Even more comments/explanations in the code
- Split upload support to both FTP and HTTP
- Online documentation and description
The beta03 package will shortly be available in the downloads section.
Even though the client compiled so far, the ftp module did not work due to a data type not working right on 32bit. This has been fixed now.
