    Shimmer for Android

    Shimmer for Android

An easy way to add a shimmering effect to any view in an Android app

Shimmer is an Android library that provides an easy way to add a shimmer effect to any view in your Android app. It is useful as an unobtrusive loading indicator that was originally developed for Facebook Home. Shimmer for Android is implemented as a layout, which means that you can simply nest any view inside a ShimmerFrameLayout tag, and call to start the animation from your code. That's all that is required. The layout will use the values you specify either on the tag (using custom attributes) or programmatically in your code, and generate an animation on the fly. See the API reference for further details. Note that you cannot use the custom attributes on the tag if you use the Jar file. You can instead download the AAR file and reference that locally in your project. You can use the included Gradle wrapper to build the Shimmer library and sample application locally as well.

    Lottie

    Lottie

Render After Effects animations natively on Mobile, Web & React Native

Lottie is a wonderful library for Android, iOS, Web, and Windows that works by parsing Adobe After Effects animations that have been exported as json with Bodymovin, and then rendering these natively on mobile and on the web! Now you can have beautiful animations without engineers having to recreate everything by hand. Building animations by hand is time consuming, and other animation alternatives like Gifs and Png sequences don’t offer the same flexibility and varied features that Lottie offers. With Lottie, you can achieve exquisite animations exactly how you want, with no additional engineering effort whatsoever. Take a look at the many beautiful animation possibilities available to you on http://airbnb.io/lottie/

    ActionBar-PullToRefresh

    ActionBar-PullToRefresh

Add a modern version of the pull-to-refresh interaction to your app

ActionBar-PullToRefresh is a lightweight Android library that provides a modern implementation of the pull-to-refresh interaction inspired by the behavior seen in applications like Gmail. Unlike its predecessor, it was designed as a cleaner and more streamlined approach, focusing on simplicity and better integration with the Android Action Bar. The library introduces a visually distinct refresh mechanism where a progress indicator emerges from the Action Bar area, creating a more polished and contemporary user experience. It supports multiple view types such as ListView, GridView, ScrollView, and WebView, while also allowing developers to extend functionality through custom delegates. One of its key features is automatic styling based on the application’s Action Bar theme, reducing the need for manual customization. The API is designed to be flexible, enabling developers to control refresh behavior, animations, and text feedback.

    Android Image Slider

    Android Image Slider

An amazing and convenient Android image slider

The Android Image Slider project is an Android UI component/library that provides a convenient, customizable image slider (carousel) for mobile apps. Instead of building a custom slider from scratch, developers can drop in this library’s slider view into their layout and configure it via XML or code to display a series of images — from local drawables, files, or remote URLs — with smooth transitions, animations, and optional indicators. This significantly simplifies development of galleries, onboarding screens, advertisement banners, or any UI requiring swipable images in Android apps. The library supports various slide animations (transitions), auto-sliding, and event listeners (e.g., click events on slides), giving developers flexibility around how the slider behaves. For mobile apps where image-heavy UI is common (e.g. e-commerce, portfolios, media galleries), AndroidImageSlider offers a ready-made, tested component that saves time and ensures consistency.

    Android Persistent Search Library

    Android Persistent Search Library

A clone of the Google Now/Maps/Play persistent search bar

PersistentSearch is an open-source Android UI library that recreates the persistent search bar found in older Google Now, Google Maps, and Google Play interfaces. It allows developers to integrate a familiar search component directly into application layouts. The library provides an expandable search field with customizable branding and interactive search suggestions. Developers can populate suggested results with titles and accompanying icons. Built-in listeners report search queries, text changes, result selections, and search field interactions. It also supports voice recognition through Android's speech recognition interface. Additional methods allow search interfaces to open from toolbar menu items and customize elements such as logo text colors. PersistentSearch can be integrated into Android Studio or Eclipse projects, although development has been formally discontinued.

BRVAH or Base RecyclerView Adapter Helper is a helpful tool for using RecyclerView more easily and efficiently. If you're an Android developer, you're probably familiar with RecyclerView as it is one of the most frequently-used controls in Android. While it may be quite useful however, a lot of developers can find it vexing to use. This is where BRVAH comes in. With BRVAH, it becomes easier than ever to use RecyclerView. Its efficient use meets the common needs of Android developers in projects. BRVAH optimizes adapter code, allows for adapter animation, adds On Item Click Lister, and more.

    BottomSheet

    BottomSheet

Android component which presents a dismissible view

BottomSheet is an Android component which presents a dismissible view from the bottom of the screen. BottomSheet can be a useful replacement for dialogs and menus but can hold any view so the use cases are endless. This repository includes the BottomSheet component itself but also includes a set of common view components presented in a bottom sheet. These are located in the commons module. The IntentPickerSheetView component presents an intent chooser in the form of a BottomSheet view. Give it an intent such as a share intent and let the user choose what activity they want to share the intent with in a BottomSheet. The MenuSheetView component presents a BottomSheet view that's backed by a menu. It behaves similarly to the new NavigationView in the Design support library, and is intended to mimic the examples in the Material Design spec. It supports list and grid states, with the former adding further support for separators and subheaders.

    CircleProgress

    CircleProgress

    CircleProgress, DonutProgress, ArcProgress for Android

CircleProgress is an Android UI library that provides circular progress indicators in three distinct styles. The included views are DonutProgress, CircleProgress, and ArcProgress. DonutProgress can display inner drawables or VectorDrawables along with configurable text. Developers can customize progress values, maximum values, colors, text sizes, suffixes, backgrounds, and other visual attributes. Version 2 migrated the library to AndroidX, raised its minimum SDK level, and modernized its Gradle tooling. Accessibility support was added for screen readers, while rendering and animation code received performance improvements. The package is distributed through JitPack and includes demo applications showing the available controls.

    DiagonalLayout

    DiagonalLayout

Explore new styles and approaches on material design

DiagonalLayout is another Android UI library aimed at enabling non-rectangular, more dynamic layout patterns: it provides a custom layout container whose sides (top, bottom, left, right) can be clipped diagonally, producing slanted, angled UI containers. This is especially useful when you want to build visually striking, non-conventional layouts — e.g. a header section on a profile screen with a diagonal bottom edge, a card with angled border, or image backgrounds slanted across the screen. The library exposes XML attributes to set the diagonal angle, direction (left/right), and position (top/bottom/left/right), plus supports elevation so that shadows and Material-style depth are preserved. You embed your standard content (images, text, child views) inside the DiagonalLayout container, and it handles clipping/drawing. Although the author has archived the repo (so no new development), DiagonalLayout remains a useful tool for older Android projects requiring stylized layouts.

    Douya Bean sprouts

    Douya Bean sprouts

A Material Design app for douban.com

The open source Material Design Douban client. Among all people who directly access Douban, the most common and consistent usage is around ratings, comments, discoveries, and discussions around movies, TV, books, records, and events (what we call "items"). We will use the ratings and comments that are synchronized with the website as a starting point and basis to reconstruct the discovery and discussion around personal interests on the mobile phone. Douban is never a single website, and the usage of Douban is naturally different. Douban is used to obtain information, but whether the acquisition of information is based on entries and algorithms, or based on neighbors and people, this issue has probably remained unresolved in the multiple revisions of Douban. Douban Broadcasting has been one of the few Android Design applications in China a few years ago. Actively express the characteristics of Douban, such as broadcasting, neighbors, Douyou, etc.

    FlowLayout

    FlowLayout

Android streaming layout, supports single selection

FlowLayout is an Android UI library that implements a “flow” or “tag cloud” layout where items automatically wrap onto new lines as needed, making it ideal for chips, product tags, and selectable labels. Instead of manually placing views, you feed data through an adapter-style API, so tags can be created dynamically from a list and refreshed when the dataset changes. The library supports selection behavior out of the box, including single-select and multi-select modes, so it can behave like a group of checkable chips without you building the state machinery from scratch. It also provides click and selection listeners that let you react when a user taps a tag or when the selected set changes, which is useful for filters and preference UIs. To keep the UI consistent, it can preserve selection state across activity recreation such as rotation, reducing edge-case bugs in real apps.

    GridView with Header and Footer

    GridView with Header and Footer

A GridView which can addHeaderView and addFooterView

GridView with Header and Footer is a lightweight Android UI library that extends the standard GridView component by adding native support for header and footer views, a feature not originally available in default Android implementations. It allows developers to seamlessly insert additional layout elements at the top and bottom of grid-based content without breaking the grid structure or requiring complex workarounds. The library is designed to integrate smoothly into existing Android projects using either Gradle or Maven dependencies, making adoption straightforward. It supports dynamic addition of header and footer views at runtime, enabling flexible UI compositions such as banners, loading indicators, or summary sections. The implementation preserves standard GridView behavior, including item click handling and adapter usage, ensuring compatibility with existing codebases.

    LollipopShowcase

    LollipopShowcase

A simple app to showcase Androids Material Design

LollipopShowcase is an Android sample application created to demonstrate Material Design patterns introduced around Android Lollipop. It brings together common UI components and interaction behaviors so developers can see how they work in a complete app rather than isolated snippets. The project showcases elements such as Toolbar, RecyclerView, CardView, Snackbar, Floating Action Button, CoordinatorLayout, DrawerLayout, and ActionBarDrawerToggle. It also includes animations, ripple effects, SwipeRefreshLayout, and Android compatibility theming. The repository is archived and read-only, so it is best treated as a historical learning sample rather than a modern production template. It remains useful for understanding early Material Design adoption and older Android UI implementation patterns.
