Hi Pat, I bought your beautiful quilt ‘Colour, shape and movement’ from the Boddington Quilts in the Field show. It’s now part of my home and I absolutely love it. I am in awe of your skill in getting the circles so perfect, the stitching so tiny. You have a real gift to create something so beautiful! Thank you for making this, I wanted to let you know it’s very treasured.
How nice to hear from you. Hope you got the message I left with the quilt that it was Juried into 2019 International National Quilt Festival, Chicago, colour challenge; and. travelled to International Quilt Festival Houston 2019. Here is the statement I sent to Chicago.
The design emerged from ‘play’. I started with a 7 x 7 grid of numbers one to eight generated randomly, one to four for the four orientations of the block with a dark quarter circle, and five to eight for the four orientations with a light quarter circle. Next, I used the numbers to lay out dark and light quarter circles cut from what I had in my yellow, orange and red boxes of fabric, changing a few orientations to produce variety in the shapes that were generated. The addition of ‘triangular’ corner pieces completed the patchwork design. I intend the piece to be a soft lap quilt so quilting is sparse.
I made it as part of a group decision to focus on the Drunkards Path block, and use jewel, I persuaded myself that the colours in the quilt match the following semi-precious stones: lemon quartz, sunstone, citrine, amber, tigers eye, hessonite, smokey quartz, ruby, pink ruby, spessartite garnet (orange)
It is always nice to know a quilt is in safe hands. Thank you for contacting me
