srcmap
srcmap produces structured context for AI coding agents. It ships as both a CLI tool and an MCP server.
The problem
An agent working in an unfamiliar repository spends most of its budget rediscovering the shape of the codebase: which files exist, what depends on what, where a symbol is defined. It does this by grepping and reading, one round trip at a time, and it does it again from scratch in the next session. That is slow, expensive, and a common source of confidently wrong edits, because the agent acts on a partial picture.
What it does
srcmap maps a codebase into a structured representation an agent can actually reason about, so the structural questions are answered up front instead of being reconstructed through exploration. Exposing it over MCP means the agent can request that context as a tool call, rather than needing it pasted into a prompt.
How it was built
Written in Go, which is a good fit for a tool that has to walk large trees quickly and ship as a single binary with no runtime to install. The same core serves both the CLI and the MCP server, so there is one implementation of the mapping logic and two front doors to it.
