These tracks are like the entries in the journal; they exist for many functional purposes, one of which is to perform an exorcism. Posting this track means that I am free of it – I’ve exorcised it – and I can move on to something else. This is one of the tracks that combines two beats made with different software. The main beat was composed and mixed entirely in Korg Gadget for Nintendo Switch. The secondary beat was mostly made with the Baby Audio Tekno drums plugin. And there’s a sample of a snoring couple. Alternate title that I believe I’ve just decided is the final title – Broken Snorry Beat.

Osculentropy, a research-based, live, performative sound work exploring the aural relationship between celestial bodies and their movements. Osculentropy, a portmanteau combining osculation and entropy, aims to investigate how space, data, and motion can most effectively capture a galactic soundtrack. 

Inspired particularly by Morton Feldman’s (1926-1987) perspective on “self-contained sound groups that shift subtly over time rather than developing in traditional ways,” Osculentropy is a sonification system/environment that converts astronomical data into sound in real time. This conversion feeds itself from "NASA JPL Horizons," a planetary ephemerides system, routed through a pipeline I've built in Max/MSP and developed over the course of years. The sound is generated live, from data that is itself live, and nothing is pre-composed or replayed. The chords are calculated on the same data.

The noise layer is radio signal from the CAMRAS Dwingeloo antenna, received at 20.100 MHz in CW mode.
