About
About Lockimate
Lockimate is an iPhone app that turns a still photo into a Live Photo you can set as your lock screen wallpaper. It is built and published by Christoph Wackher, an independent developer. There is no company behind it, no agency writing the guides, and no affiliate links on this site.
Who writes the guides
Christoph writes and maintains the guides. The parts of the site that matter most come from building the app: getting an AI-generated clip accepted by iOS as a live wallpaper meant testing, file by file, what iOS accepts and what it actually plays. Those results are on this site because nobody else seems to publish them. Apple documents how to set a Live Photo as a wallpaper, but not the rules behind it.
What we measured ourselves
- How much of a Live Photo the lock screen plays: about the last 13 frames before the key photo.
- Why a Live Photo shows "Motion not available": which file changes break it and which don't.
- Whether Live Photos animate inside Photo Shuffle (they don't).
- The free Live Photo check and inspector, which read a file's Live Photo structure in your browser.
How those tests were run, on which device, and what was not tested is on How we test.
Our bias
Lockimate is a paid app, and every page here ends with a link to it. Where a page compares apps, Lockimate is one of them. We say when a comparison is based on App Store listings rather than hands-on testing, and we don't publish competitor prices we haven't checked.
