webctl

A local browser automation CLI controls Chromium for AI agents on macOS, Windows and Linux, with persistent sessions and domain restrictions.

webctl gives developers and AI agents command-line control of a browser for website tasks. It uses Chromium through Playwright and connects with coding assistants through skills and prompts.

  • Persistent sessions: The browser stays open across commands and saves cookies to disk, so later actions can continue an existing session.
  • Semantic element queries: Agents can target page elements by accessibility role, reducing dependence on CSS selectors that may change when a site is redesigned.
  • Coding agent integrations: Skills and prompts support Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot, Goose, Windsurf and OpenCode.
  • Domain restrictions: Allow and deny policies control which sites the browser can visit, with wildcard patterns for groups of domains.

webctl runs locally on macOS, Windows and Linux and supports container deployment. It can use a custom Chromium browser and HTTP or HTTPS proxies for corporate networks or CI environments. Operating-system credential checks restrict browser-session control to the user running it.
