Vyact
A local AI desktop workspace for documents, email and code, with GGUF and Apple Silicon MLX models and optional cloud providers.
Vyact is a desktop workspace for people who want a local LLM to help with files, writing and code. It brings conversations and searchable documents together, with optional connections to email services and Chrome.
- Document questions: Ask about PDFs and other files, check the passages behind an answer, and keep frequently used documents and rich-text memos in a searchable knowledge base.
- Local model choice: Run GGUF models with llama.cpp or MLX models on Apple Silicon, compare estimated memory needs, and test model speed on your own hardware.
- Code editing and review: Give AI access to a project folder to search and edit files, run project checks, and review or undo tracked changes.
- Email, files and calendars: Optional Google and Microsoft connections support Gmail, Outlook, Drive, OneDrive and calendars for drafting replies, bringing files into chat and managing events; they require OAuth app setup.
- Chrome reading and writing: The extension answers questions about pages, summarizes text, translates selections and previews writing corrections before you apply them; it requires the Vyact desktop app to be running.
Vyact is open source under AGPL-3.0. Local models run on your computer, while optional cloud providers offer another way to use chat. Initial downloads and setup require internet access. Public models don't need an API key; restricted Hugging Face models require an authorized account. Model performance depends on your hardware and settings, and the built-in benchmarks compare speed rather than answer quality.
