aionrs
A terminal AI coding agent that edits local files and runs commands with Ollama, vLLM or cloud models, plus parallel sub-agents and MCP tools.
aionrs is a command-line AI agent for developers who want an assistant to work on local projects. It can carry out coding tasks across multiple steps using a model provider you choose.
- Project tools: The agent reads and edits files, searches code, views images and runs shell commands on your machine.
- Parallel work and planning: Sub-agents can handle tasks in parallel, while read-only plan mode lets the assistant explore a project before making changes.
- Project instructions and extra tools: Reusable skills and AGENTS.md files guide its work, MCP connects additional tools, and hooks can trigger formatting, linting or audits around tool activity.
- Saved work: You can resume conversations and retain project memory across sessions; context compression helps manage long chats and large tool outputs.
- Model choice: Provider profiles let you switch models, with thinking and reasoning controls for models that support them and compatibility with OpenAI Chat Completions and Responses APIs.
The agent runs locally and connects to Ollama or vLLM through OpenAI-compatible APIs. It also supports Anthropic, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock and Google Vertex AI. Local file and shell tools run on your machine; choosing a cloud model sends model requests to that service. Claude.ai access uses an existing subscription through OAuth without an API key.
You can use aionrs for individual requests or interactive terminal conversations. It's written in Rust and is open source under Apache 2.0.
