Startup Highlight: Voxela, Inc. How can AI help create a safer, more human-centered future for eldercare? Voxela, Inc. is an AgeTech startup developing Voxela VCare, an AI-powered care platform designed for senior care facilities. Using camera footage and AI, VCare detects risks such as falls, wandering, and getting out of bed, while supporting incident reporting and analysis. By reducing the burden of monitoring and administrative work, the platform helps caregivers spend more time focusing on people. At “Old School? Smart School! Vol.1 — Reinventing AgeTech” at SivanS Lab, we welcomed Voxela Co-founder & CEO Yuta Endo, who shared his vision for how technology can transform the future of care. Vol. 3 ― Let's Not Forget 忘れないように https://luma.com/dhq3kyhy 9月には、日本と世界がそれぞれに大切な意味を持つ日を迎えます。 日本では「敬老の日」を。そして世界では「世界アルツハイマーデー」で、アルツハイマー病を含む認知症への理解を深め、偏見をなくしていくことを目的としています。日本でも、2024年に施行された「認知症基本法」により、9月21日は「認知症の日」、そして9月は「認知症月間」と定められました。 だからこそ、忘れないように。 SivanS Lab は、日本の高齢社会に真正面から向き合い、その課題に光を当てると同時に、 『そこにある可能性を、ひとつの視野に収めること』を使命として、活動を続けています。 このたび、アルツハイマー病をテーマにすべてを捧げる Old School? Smart School! Yesterday, SivanS Lab was pleased to host a private Founder Dinner organized by Erdinç Ekinci 🙋♂️ and バティノ タイセン from SmartStart Japan, bringing together a select group of international startup founders building their businesses in Japan. 🇯🇵 The evening was centered around open conversations, sharing experiences, challenges, lessons learned, and the realities of building and growing a company in Japan. Startup Highlight: Intuition Robotics When we talk about aging, the conversation often centers on what's being lost. But what if the future of care is built on connection, not dependence? ElliQ, developed by Intuition Robotics, is an AI assistant robot designed as a "roommate-like" presence for seniors aged 50–80+. Rather than monitoring, it supports independent living while maintaining family connections. At シバンズラボ's "Old School? Smart School!" AgeTech series, we explored this question with Hidemi T. from Intuition Robotics. The conversation centered on a critical distinction: What does it actually mean to care with technology? The evidence speaks for itself: Users interact with ElliQ an average of 20 times a day, with 90% reporting improved mood and 80% reporting reduced loneliness. Over 90% of users' families download the companion app to stay connected via video calls, building bridges, not walls. The AI is built on behavioral psychology research and holds 30+ patents, enabling it to read context intelligently. It knows when to suggest a walk on a sunny day, when to remind about medication, or when to simply listen. This is what AgeTech should be: technology that respects autonomy, builds genuine connection, and treats longevity as a lifestyle opportunity, not a problem to be managed. This is why SivanS Lab exists. As innovation in Women’s Health and FemTech continues to accelerate globally, SivanS Lab is developing a bridge community that connects Japan with international ecosystems — supporting Japanese companies looking outward, and global players looking to enter or understand the Japanese market. Kita-san will play a central role in shaping this initiative, bringing her expertise in medical marketing, regulatory understanding, and healthcare communication. Through events, mentoring, market insights, and cross-border collaboration, the program will create new opportunities for dialogue and partnership across the Women’s Health sector. An Introduction to Menstruation for Parents and Children" at SivanS Lab. In Japanese households, conversations about menstruation are still often treated as taboo. Many parents struggle with questions like "How should I bring this up?" and "I don't want to frighten my child." Working alongside Naoko Kita, CEO of Jocone Inc. and Women's Health Leader at SivanS Lab, we created an alternative. A space where parents and children can learn about menstruation together, actually touch menstrual products, and experience them firsthand. A place to reframe menstruation, not as an inconvenient thing to manage, but as an important step toward meeting a new version of yourself. We believe this embodies the true essence of Women's Health. It's not just about developing new products; it's about taking on the challenge of cultural renewal, rethinking how women relate to their bodies and health. Creating an environment where no one feels afraid to talk openly. Time for parents and children to prepare together with trust. At SivanS Lab's Women's Health Program, we deeply value this process of moving from dialogue to collaboration. Gustav is an internationally recognized AgeTech expert and hands-on practitioner with extensive experience in Japan's care sector. As CEO of International Care System, Board Member of the Japan CareTech Association, and Professor at Musashino University, he brings deep insight into both the practical realities and future possibilities of aging innovation. Since April 2026, Gustav has been instrumental in shaping our AgeTech conversation moderating both "Old School? Smart School! Reinventing AgeTech Vol.1" and "Vol.2" bringing together leaders across AI, robotics, care innovation, and policy. These events have highlighted the collaborative approach we believe is essential to advancing the AgeTech ecosystem. At SivanS Lab, we see AgeTech as more than technology.
