In this paper, we examine existing literature on the way that the number of blades of a wind turbine affects its efficiency and power generation. A wind turbine blade is an important component of a clean energy system because of its ability to capture energy from the wind. The power that a wind turbine extracts from the wind is directly proportional to the swept area of the blades; consequently, the blades have a direct effect on power generation. The number and configuration of the blades is very important because it affects the speed and efficiency of turbine. Unfortunately, as the number of blades increases, so does the slipstream effect. Too few a number of blades results in poor efficiency and thus inadequate performance. Too large a number of blades increases weight and production cost. The correct number of blades is important to fit the generator performance curve to optimize overall turbine performance and efficiency.

The 2nd International Conference on Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences (ICAFES 2025) was convened on 30–31 August 2025 in a hybrid format at the Integrated Classroom Building, Universitas Riau, Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Riau, this conference was organized under the theme “Promoting Sustainable Agriculture for Ensuring Food Security in the Face of Climate Change.”
This theme reflects a shared global concern: the urgent need to transform agricultural systems so they remain productive, equitable, and environmentally responsible amid accelerating climate change. ICAFES 2025 was conceived as an academic forum where scientific rigor meets practical relevance—bringing together diverse perspectives to explore how sustainable agricultural practices, technological innovation, institutional frameworks, and community engagement can collectively strengthen food security and environmental resilience.
The conference sought to integrate scientific evidence, technological advancement, and policy insight to support sustainable agricultural transformation. Seven major thematic areas structured the academic discussions: (1) Agronomy and Plant Breeding; (2) Agriculture and Food Technology; (3) Agricultural Policy and Socioeconomics; (4) Forestry, Biodiversity and Conservation; (5) Plant Protection; (6) Soil Science and Land Resource Management; and (7) Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, and Green Technology in Agriculture. Together, these interconnected domains underscore that food security cannot be addressed in isolation—it depends on resilient production systems, sound land stewardship, biodiversity conservation, technological adaptation, and inclusive governance.

These two parameters are correlated and usually expressed by a simple equation: TDS = k EC (in 25 °C). The process of obtaining TDS from water sample is more complex than that of EC. Meanwhile, TDS analysis is very important because it can illustrate groundwater quality, particularly in understanding the effect of seawater intrusion better than EC analysis. These conditions make research in revealing TDS/EC ratios interesting to do. By finding the ratio value, TDS concentration can be measured easily from EC value. However, the ratio cannot be defined easily. Previous research results have found that the correlation between TDS and EC are not always linear. The ratio is not only strongly influenced by salinity contents, but also by materials contents. Furthermore, the analysis of TDS concentration from EC value can be used to give an overview of water quality. For more precision, TDS concentrations need to be analyzed using the gravimetric method in the laboratory.

The main causes of UHI are the vast amounts of heat produced by urban structures, which solar energy should be used and re-radiated as well as anthropogenic heat sources. The two heat sources cause an urban area’s temperature to rise in comparison to its surrounding areas, which refers to a phenomenon of the urban heat islands. Large cities and diverse economic activities face even more serious difficulties. This paper defined the concept and types of UHIs. This paper explained a comprehensive review of the phenomenon of UHI from its first appearance with regard to causing factors, its influences on people’s lives and the urban environments, and widely used data for measuring and evaluating the intensity of UHIs. The finding of most studies mentioned that UHI values are different from city to city based on land-use changes. It is revealed that an increasing trend occurred mainly because expand in built-up areas and a reduction in green cover. Also, a number of studies showed that the UHI intensity was low during summer afternoons and high during winter nights in many places around the world.

The alternative fertilizer comes from household waste, namely egg shells. This study aims to determine the effect of eggshell organic fertilizer on vegetative growth of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). The research method used was an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were P0 (control), P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 respectively, the treatment of eggshell organic fertilizer with a dose of 0; 45; 60; 75; 90; and 105 g. The treatments were given 3 days after transplanting and harvesting the plants 35 days after transplanting. Data for each parameter was tested for normality, homogeneity test, and analyzed by 1 factor ANOVA. Furthermore, the LSD test was carried out to determine the difference in effect between treatments. The best application of eggshell organic fertilizer was P4 treatment for parameters of root length and plant wet weight, respectively, 20.10 cm and 17.96 g, and P5 treatment for parameters of plant height and plant dry weight, respectively 54.80 cm and 3.00 g. The percentage of root length and wet weight of P4 treatment plants to control were 130.52% and 269.67%, respectively, while the percentage of plant height and dry weight of P5 treatment plants to control were 139.79% and 282.49%, respectively. The application of eggshell organic fertilizer can increase the vegetative growth of cayenne pepper.

In regard with the phenol-sulfuric acid assay, 1.0 mL of sample was treated with 1.0 mL of 5% phenol, 5.0 mL of concentrated H2SO4 and measured at 485 nm, with the linearity range of 10–100 ppm for total sugars. The DNS method was performed on 2.0 mL of sample, using 1.5 mL of DNS at 80 °C for 10 minutes and measured at 510 nm, with the linearity range of 50–400 ppm for reducing sugars. The sugar contents of white dragon fruit-derived sugar-samples (extracted from species in Binh Thuan province, Vietnam) were also estimated by the above measured methods, exhibiting the total sugars of above 90% and the reducing sugars of above 5%. The methods were well-performed with the acceptable relative standard deviations of repeatability in accordance with the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC).

Coal deposits play a major role in energy production, and at the same time, coal mining causes adverse environmental effects. For this reason, the article is devoted to the study consequences of coal mining on water contamination and soil conditions. The investigation results show that coal mining causes dangerous and harmful particles to reach the surface of the water, degrades the soil, and causes chemical exposure. Hydrology and water quality throughout the mining lifecycle are influenced by such consequences, which can be observed across mining regions and under different extraction methods. In this regard, there exists a need for effective strategies and implementing best practices for mining operations, adopting preventive measures for acid mine drainage, and advanced water management techniques. Also, the experience of effective environmental management is discussed. Mining reclamation plans, adherence to specific standards, and the role of rocks selection in reclamation success are discussed. Considering the above balancing energy needs with sustainable environmental practices is crucial to ensuring the coexistence of mining and global water resources.

One of Indonesia’s most important hotspots for climate vulnerability is Pekalongan City in North Java, were frequent flooding interrupts daily life and economic activity. This study looks at how local policy frameworks relate to community involvement in climate change adaptation. Through content analysis, in-depth interviews, and field observation, a qualitative case study methodology was used. The results demonstrate how communal actions like house elevation, neighborhood embankment construction, shared water management, and livelihood diversification represent community participation. Through trust, collaboration, and local networks that improve group adaptability, these behaviors exhibit great social capital. In response to climate concerns, community efforts also demonstrate social capability through self-organization, resource sharing, and local knowledge. Long-term sustainability is impacted by the majority of activities’ continued reactivity and resource constraints. To improve the resilience and sustainability of coastal adaptation in Pekalongan and other coastal cities, it is imperative to strengthen the synergy between institutional policies and community-driven initiatives, especially the Regional Action Plan for Climate Change Adaptation (RAP-CCA).

Leaves ExtractsKatuk is widely popular with its benefits for breastfeeding mothers. Katuk is also known as a plant with a high antioxidant content. This study aims to determine the effect of using variations in the ethanol concentration as an extracting solvent in producing Total Phenolics Content (TPC) and Total Flavonoids Content (TFC) and their activities in reducing DPPH free radicals. The dried katuk leaves were extracted by cold maceration method. The solvent used for extraction is ethanol with 3 variations in concentration: 50%, 70%, and 96% (absolute ethanol). TPC and TFC were determined by colorimetric method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. TPC was stated to be equivalent to gallic acid, while TFC was stated to be equivalent to quercetin. DPPH free radical scavenging activity was measured based on the IC50 value. The results showed that Katuk leaf extract produced from 50% ethanol solvent was able to produce TPC (42.18 ± 0.30 mg GAE / g), TFC (11.18 ± 0.38 mg QE / g) and reduction activity against DPPH radicals (IC50 = 88.33 ± 3.53 ppm). These were higher than ethanol with other concentrations. However, various things need to be considered when using this solvent given the high water content in the solvent.

The International Conference of Global Geography and Innovation Summit (IGGIS) 2025 was successfully held on October 16, 2025. The conference was proudly hosted by the Department of Geography Education, Faculty of Education, University of Jember, East Java, Indonesia in collaboration with the Ikatan Geograf Indonesia (IGI / Association of Indonesian Geographers). IGGIS 2025 brought together academicians, researchers, scientists, and practitioners from around the globe to discuss the latest advancements, innovations, and challenges in the field of geography, environmental science, and geospatial technologies.
The conference was organized under the theme “Global Geoparks for Sustainable Futures: Integrating Geo-Heritage, Innovation, and Community Empowerment”. This theme emphasized the important role of geoparks in promoting sustainability by integrating geological heritage, technological innovation, and community empowerment to support climate resilience and sustainable development. The summit served as an excellent platform for fostering academic exchange, building international collaborations, and promoting interdisciplinary research.
We received a substantial number of manuscript submissions from numerous researcher. Each submission underwent a rigorous peer-review process conducted by the International Scientific Committee and expert reviewers in the respective fields. The evaluation was based on originality, technical depth, relevance to the conference theme, and contribution to the scientific community. This research was located in Rambipuji Sub-District, Jember Regency. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method using primary data and secondary data through literature and map studies. Data analysis was carried out by overlapping using a geographical information system based on the Arcgis 10.4.1 application. Data classification is based on Minister of Agriculture Decree No. 837/Kpts/Um/1980. Based on the results of this research, it shows that Rambipuji Sub-District has the potential to maintain National Food Security, this is because Rambipuji Sub-District has a Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B) area of 3,163 Ha with the largest LP2B potential in Kaliwining Village at 833 Ha.

High rainfall intensity and problems with the drainage system, as well as piles of garbage, cause water to overflow, causing floods in several subdistricts, such as in Kalibaru Subdistrict, Banyuwangi Regency. This study was conducted to provide an overview of the analysis of flood-prone areas in the Kalibaru Subdistrict to local residents and institutions, which can be used by the village government to manage disaster mitigation. Data processing uses quantitative descriptive methods as a basis for conducting overlay analysis of several parameters such as rainfall, slope, land use, disaster vulnerability index, NDVI, and NDWI. The data collection technique is Stratified Random Sampling by taking samples based on data shown on the InaRISK WebGIS in the form of a flood disaster potential map, which is used to validate the accuracy of flood distribution in the flood vulnerability overlay data. Based on the results of processing the flood disaster vulnerability indicator data, the Kalibaru Wetan Village area was classified into four categories of vulnerability levels, starting from safe (0-25%), slightly safe (26-50%), vulnerable (51-75%), to very vulnerable (76-100%).

Jember City, as one of the activity centers in East Java, has a high level of mobility that potentially contributes to an increased number of traffic accidents. This study aims to identify and map accident-prone areas (black spots) in Jember City using the Z-Score method and the Equivalent Accident Number (EAN). The data used include the number of accidents, fatalities, serious injuries, and minor injuries obtained from relevant agencies. The analysis was carried out by calculating the EAN to determine accident severity levels and applying the Z-Score method to classify locations based on their accident-prone levels. The results indicate that several locations fall into high, medium, and low-risk categories, mostly concentrated along Jember’s main road corridors. This mapping is expected to serve as a basis for local governments and stakeholders in formulating road safety policies, traffic engineering planning, and accident prevention programs in the future.

Thus, basic knowledge of starch properties is important. This research aimed to evaluate the physical and thermal properties of various potential starch, i.e. corn, cassava, and potato starch. Granule size, thermal property, and functional group of starch were determined by optical microsopy, DSC, and FTIR, respectively. Our results demonstrated that the properties of starch (e.g. granule morphology and thermal property) varied according to its different sources. Potato starch has a bigger granule size and lower gelatinization temperature compare to corn and cassava starch. This implied that the granule size of starch affected gelatinization temperature. The larger the granule size, the more easily the starch to be gelatinized.

In this paper, the classification of the pharmaceutical technology was introduced, and the characteristics of pharmaceutical wastewater effluent quality were summarized. The methods of advanced treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater were reviewed afterwards, which included coagulation and sedimentation, flotation, activated carbon adsorption, membrane separation, advanced oxidation processes, membrane separation and biological treatment. Meanwhile, the characteristics of each process were described.

The prediction performance of the XGBoost method is evaluated by comparing observed and predicted PM2.5 concentration using three measures of forecast accuracy. The XGBoost method is also compared with the random forest algorithm, multiple linear regression, decision tree regression and support vector machines for regression models using computational results. The results demonstrate that the XGBoost algorithm outperforms other data mining methods.

Molecular docking technology, as one of the main method, has been widely used in many fields of drug development. Based on the dopamine D3 receptor target, this paper describes the method of molecular docking using LeDock software (Windows version) in combination with the docking process of eticlopride ligand and D3 receptor. This method can predict the binding mode of ligands to proteins, including binding energy, binding sites and attractive interactions types. Four representative D3 receptor ligands, including BP897, NGB2904, FAUC365 and SB277011A, were respectively docked with D3 receptor by this method. By analyzing the docking results, we can conclude that the molecular docking method using LeDock software plays an important role in the drug design process.

In this study, we investigated the fitness of earthworms (E. Foetida) exposed to MPs (Polystyrene, 58 μm) in soils at the concentrations of 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 2% (w/w). The results showed that MPs had little effects on the fitness of earthworms under low exposure concentrations (≤ 0.5 % (w/w)), while MPs exposure with high concentrations (i.e., 1% and 2%) significantly inhibited the growth and increased the mortality of earthworms. The results indicated that the MPs pollution in soils have an adverse effect on the fitness of soil organisms, and implied the ecological risk of MPs in terrestrial ecosystems.

The results show that: compared with glass fiber, carbon fiber and aramid fiber, basalt fiber has good mechanical properties, acid-alkali resistance, excellent electrical properties, high wave permeability, non-conductive, and excellent sound insulation and insulation performance. Based on the above advantages, the combination of basalt fiber and substrate can enhance the material properties. Based on the above features, the basalt fiber and its composites can be made into high temperature and low temperature protective clothing and sound insulation materials used in sound absorption and heat insulation industry. Different levels of integration can be envisaged, ranging from a BOQ export (Bill Of Quantity) based on the BIM-model to import in native LCA-software, up to a real time LCA-calculation within the native design environment, giving real time feedback on design decisions, or alternatively utilizing the standardized BIM-information exchange format IFC. Based on the evaluation of existing tools, this paper focuses on the possible workflows for the integration of LCA and BIM. A comparative analysis between these different information flow structures exposes their advantages and disadvantages, depending on the design phase they are used in and the availability of generic, product-specific or manufacturer-specific LCA-data.

Accumulation of plastic as wastes in the environment poses a serious problem and causes an ecological threat. Alternative strategies to reduce accumulation of plastic wastes have been initiated and implemented from a different aspect including from microbiological view point. The study to obtain potential fungi in degrading plastic molecule has been initiated in our laboratory. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic was used as a tested material. Candidate fungi were isolated from local landfill soil. The fungi were cultured in mineral salt medium broth containing LDPE powder. Two of nine isolates showed best growth response in broth media containing LDPE. These isolates (RH03 and RH06) were used in degradation test. Results showed that isolate RH03 and RH06 reduced the weight of LDPE film by 5.13% and 6.63%, respectively after 45 days of cultivation. The tensile strength of treated film even reduced significantly by 58% and 40% of each isolate. Analyses of electron micrograph exhibited grove ands rough were formed on the surface of LDPE film. These were not found in the untreated film. Furthermore, molecular analysis through polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequencing indicated that RH03 is Trichoderma viride and RH06 is Aspergillus nomius with 97% and 96% similarities, respectively.
