chore: Release Candidate 2.0.0-rc1 It is one of the largest updates in the project's history. It includes a major refactoring of the configuration mangement, a complete rewrite of the mount subsystem, replaces EncFS with Gocryptfs for encrypted profiles, and removes several deprecated features. Although extensive testing has been performed, this is still a **release candidate**. We encourage users to [test it](https://github.com/bit-team/backintime/blob/dev/PLAY_WITH_BIT.md) and report your tests even if you haven't found any regressions. Tests without regressions are also an important information to the project and its release process! > [!WARNING] > **Do not test this release with your regular configuration.** > > Version 2.0.0 migrates the configuration and the changes might not be backward compatible. EncFS profiles are also removed. Once a configuration has been opened with 2.0.0, it may no longer work correctly with older Back In Time releases. > > Please test in a virtual machine or with a separate configuration using the `--config` command-line option. ## Highlights - Complete rewrite of the mount subsystem (backend and encryption handling). - **Gocryptfs** replaces **EncFS** for encrypted SSH profiles. - Major refactoring of the configuratoin mangement. - Calculate disk space savings because of hard-links. - Numerous bug fixes, GUI improvements, internal cleanups and more refactoring. ## Breaking Changes - Python 3.13 or newer is now required. - **EncFS support has been removed.** Existing EncFS profiles are no longer supported and **will be removed**. - Config files written by 2.0.0 are **not backward compatible** to previous versions. - Some (not all) deprecated **CLI options and commands have been removed**. For the complete list of changes, see the [changelog](https://github.com/bit-team/backintime/blob/dev/CHANGES). - Compare with the previous release: v1.6.1...v2.0.0-rc1 ## Feedback Please report regressions or unexpected behaviour in the [Issues section](https://github.com/bit-team/backintime/issues).
