Terms of use
The plain-language rules for using GetTheText and youtubetext.com.
- Single transcripts are free within a daily limit, with or without an account. The service is provided as-is, with no promise that it will always work or always be right.
- Transcripts belong to the people who made the videos; use them the way copyright allows.
- Use the tools we provide for volume. Scraping, automation and extra accounts to get around limits may be blocked without notice.
The service
GetTheText turns public YouTube videos into text you can read, search and download. It's an independent website, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google, and it does not host or download videos.
You need to be at least 13 to use it, or the minimum age for online services where you live if that's higher.
Your content, their content
Transcripts and subtitles remain the property of the video's creator or rights holder. You are responsible for how you use them. Quoting for study, research, criticism, commentary or accessibility is generally fine; republishing whole transcripts as your own usually isn't.
The site itself, its name, design and code, belong to us. You may use the site for personal and internal business purposes; you may not copy, resell or rebrand it.
Accounts
You can use the site without an account. If you make one, keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person: creating extra accounts to get more daily transcripts isn't allowed.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. You can delete yours at any time from the Usage page.
Daily limits and plans
Each plan has a daily number of transcripts, shown on the pricing page. One transcript is one video in one language; opening the same video again the same day is free. Limits reset at midnight UTC and unused transcripts don't carry over. We may change the limits, and will say so on the pricing page.
Paid plans are not on sale yet. When they are, prices and billing periods will be shown before you pay, you'll be able to cancel at any time and keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for, and an upgrade made by mistake can be refunded if you tell us within seven days.
Bulk, playlist and channel downloads
Batch downloads process videos a few at a time and count each new video against your daily limit. Videos without captions, unavailable videos and anything past your limit are listed as skipped rather than dropped silently. Finished batches are kept for seven days, then deleted.
Copyright complaints
If you own a video and don't want its transcript shown here, or you believe something on the site infringes your rights, contact us with the video link and a short description of the claim. We'll respond promptly and remove or block the transcript where appropriate.
Acceptable use
Use the tools we provide. For many videos, use the bulk, playlist and channel pages rather than scripting the site. Don't scrape it, automate requests, try to get around rate or daily limits, probe for vulnerabilities, reverse-engineer it, or use it to build a competing service. Don't use it for anything unlawful. New videos are processed at a limited rate, and activity that breaks these rules may be blocked without notice. If you need more volume than a plan offers, contact us.
Availability and changes
We may change, pause or discontinue any part of the service at any time, and we may block any visitor or video without notice or liability. We try to keep the site up, but there's no guarantee it will be available at any given moment.
No warranty
The service is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a purpose or non-infringement. Automatically generated text can be wrong, and machine translations more so. Check anything you rely on.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from your use of the service or reliance on a transcript. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for free use is nothing.
Your responsibility
If your use of the service or your breach of these terms leads to a claim against us by someone else, you agree to cover the costs and damages that result.
Third-party sites
Links to YouTube and other sites are provided for convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or practices.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where the operator of GetTheText is established, and disputes go to the courts there, unless the consumer law where you live gives you a right to something else. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Changes and contact
We'll update the date at the top when these terms change. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Questions go through the contact page.
