Terms of Service
1. About FEWD Studio
FEWD Studio is a downloadable desktop software tool designed to assist with front-end web development workflows, including editing and managing local HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related files.
These terms also apply to GenCSS, the companion CSS framework generator sold alongside FEWD Studio. Where these terms say FEWD Studio or the software, that includes GenCSS. In these terms, "we", "us" and "the developer" mean the developer of FEWD Studio.
2. Who makes FEWD Studio, and how
FEWD Studio is architected, designed and supported by an independent developer, not a large software company. Its security is designed with awareness, guided by the published security documentation and practices of other code editors, such as VS Code, Zed, Cursor and JetBrains. All attempts have been made to take the lead from those best practices. It is built with Claude Code, an AI coding agent, working to that design. Every reasonable effort is made to keep it free of defects and security issues, and its design, checks and releases are reviewed, tested and scanned.
That is stated openly so you can weigh it. No software can be guaranteed to be free of faults, vulnerabilities or compromise, software written with the help of AI is no exception, and FEWD Studio has not been through the audit or assurance a large company or a regulated product would have.
3. Early-stage software
FEWD Studio is an early-stage product, and remains so until the developer says otherwise in writing. It is tested and in daily use, but it is still being finished. Features change, bugs will be found, and a new version can behave differently from the one before it.
Buying gets you the app as it currently exists, at the price offered. It does not buy a finished product, and it does not buy a guarantee that the software will be free of faults or suited to any particular purpose.
4. Security is your responsibility
Every reasonable effort is made to be aware of security threats and to handle and protect against them, and the documentation describes the checks and notices FEWD Studio provides. Those are aids, not a guarantee. Ultimately, responsibility for security rests with you: for running the software, for the machine you run it on, and for the projects, repositories and accounts you open with it.
That means having your own guards and checks in place: up-to-date antivirus and endpoint protection, the operating system firewall, a standard (not administrator) user account for everyday work, and current backups. Only open projects you trust, read the prompts FEWD Studio shows before you accept them, and where you can, try anything unfamiliar on a machine that holds nothing you cannot afford to lose.
5. Do not depend on FEWD Studio alone
FEWD Studio is meant to be used for the front-end web development work: editing HTML, CSS and JavaScript with a live preview. It is not required for managing your projects, Git or GitHub, and you should not make it the only thing between your work and a mistake.
You are free, and encouraged, to use VS Code or another editor alongside it, and to use other tools for version control, project management, review and deployment. Please do not place all-out trust in, or become dependent on, any one tool, including this one.
6. Packages the software downloads
Your projects, and some FEWD Studio features, download third-party packages, for example from npm. Those packages are written and published by other people, and the developer does not control, audit or vouch for them. A package that is safe today can be compromised tomorrow.
FEWD Studio provides safeguards when it installs packages, but you remain responsible for guarding against them: commit and review lock files, run npm audit or an equivalent scanner, consider restricting install scripts, and watch for unexpected packages or network access.
7. Mac notarisation and Windows signing
The Mac version of FEWD Studio is notarised by Apple. Notarisation means Apple has scanned the build for known malicious content. It is not a review of how the app behaves and it is not a security guarantee.
The Windows version is not code signed. Windows will warn you that the publisher is unknown, and you will have to choose to run it anyway. Only download FEWD Studio from the links on this site, and do not run a copy you were sent or found anywhere else.
8. Your data and your backups
FEWD Studio works on files on your own machine, so looking after them is yours to do. Keep regular backups, use version control, and take a fresh backup before installing each new version. The developer cannot recover data that has been lost, deleted or damaged on your machine, whatever the cause.
9. Licence and use
When you purchase FEWD Studio, you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the software in accordance with the terms presented at the point of purchase.
Licences may allow use on a limited number of devices depending on the product tier. You may not resell, redistribute, or share access to the software without permission.
10. Use at your own risk
By buying, downloading, installing or using FEWD Studio, you confirm that you are choosing to use it at your own risk. You are responsible for deciding whether it is suitable for your purposes, for how and where you run it, and for the security consequences of doing so.
11. Your responsibilities
FEWD Studio works with your local project files. You are responsible for:
- keeping regular backups of your work and taking one before installing each new version;
- reviewing and testing all files and code the software creates or changes before you publish or use them in production;
- the security of the machines, accounts and networks you run it on, including keeping your operating system, antivirus and firewall up to date; and
- guarding against any third-party package or dependency that your projects download or run (for example from npm), using safeguards such as lock files, audit tools and restricting install scripts.
12. Third-party software and services
FEWD Studio may work with, or your projects may depend on, software, packages, registries, hosting or services provided by other people. The developer does not control, audit or vouch for them and is not responsible for them.
13. Updates and versions
Licences may include updates within a specific version (e.g. V1). Future versions may require a separate purchase or optional update plan.
The software will not be remotely disabled for users who have purchased a valid version.
Buying a licence, including a Lifetime Deal, is not a promise of any particular future feature, of development continuing, or of support being available indefinitely. "Lifetime" means the lifetime of the product, not of the buyer. The developer may pause development, change prices for new purchases, or discontinue the product, and is not obliged to provide more than the versions already released. Updates may change how the software behaves, and compatibility with older versions, other software or future operating systems is not guaranteed.
The product can be discontinued at any time, without notice, and discontinuing it does not entitle you to a refund, in whole or in part, however recently you bought it. When it is discontinued, sales, updates, documentation and support may stop. The versions you already have will carry on running on your machine for as long as your operating system allows, but nothing further is owed. This is subject to your statutory rights.
14. Acceptable use
- No unlawful use
- No licence bypassing
- No redistribution or resale
15. No guaranteed results
FEWD Studio is a tool. The developer does not guarantee any particular outcome from using it, including that it will meet your requirements, or that the websites, content or code you make with it are accessible, secure, performant or legally compliant. You are responsible for checking anything before you publish or rely on it.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- the software is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, other than those that cannot be excluded by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, compatibility with all environments, or error-free performance;
- the developer is not liable for any loss of or damage to data, loss of profits, revenue, business, contracts or goodwill, business interruption, security incident, or any indirect or consequential loss, arising from buying, installing or using the software, from anything it produces, or from any package your projects download; and
- the developer's total liability to you, for all claims together arising from or in connection with the software or these terms, whether in contract, negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise, is limited to the amount you paid for your licence in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
17. If you buy or use FEWD Studio for work
If you buy or use FEWD Studio in the course of a business, including work for clients, these further terms apply, to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- all warranties, conditions and other terms implied by statute or common law, including those about satisfactory quality and fitness for purpose, are excluded;
- you are responsible for the work you deliver, and you agree to indemnify the developer against claims by your clients or any other third party arising from your use of the software or anything you make with it;
- you must notify the developer in writing of any claim within 12 months of the event that gave rise to it, or the claim is waived; and
- these terms are the whole agreement, and you have not relied on any statement, promise or description not set out in them. This does not limit liability for fraud.
18. Events outside our control
The developer is not responsible for any delay or failure caused by events outside its reasonable control, including the failure of third-party services, hosting, payment or licensing providers, package registries, internet connections, operating system changes, or cyber attacks on systems the developer does not operate.
19. Your statutory rights
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
If you are a consumer, buying for personal use rather than for a business, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and the terms for business use above do not apply to you.
20. Disputes, governing law and courts
These terms, your purchase and your use of FEWD Studio, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, including non-contractual disputes or claims and claims about anything said or represented before you bought, are governed by the law of England and Wales.
By buying FEWD Studio, you agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim, wherever you live. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts, and if you are a consumer living anywhere else, this does not remove any protection the law where you live gives you that cannot be excluded by agreement.
21. How you agree to these terms
Before you continue to checkout you give your name and the email address you will buy with, which must be the same email address you use at checkout because your agreement is matched to your purchase by it, and tick a box to confirm you have read and agree to these terms. Your agreement is recorded with the date, time, IP address and browser, and passed to the checkout with your order. If you do not agree to these terms, do not buy or use FEWD Studio.
22. Support
Support is provided via email and documentation. No custom development or consulting is included.

23. General
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, it is limited to the least extent necessary and the rest remains in effect. If the developer does not enforce a term straight away, it can still enforce it later.
These terms may be updated; the date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version you agreed to at checkout applies to your purchase.
