Reconstruction:Latin/vocitum
Appearance
Latin
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Originally a past participle of vocāre (“to empty”, verb), attested variant of vacāre, compare vacuus (“empty”, adj).
Adjective
[edit]*vocitum (Proto-Romance)
Reconstruction notes
[edit]For the */ɔ/, cf. vocīvus < vacīvus. The form of the perfect passive participle is surprising, as vocātus is expected, like vacātus, and looks analogous to first conjugation verbs with perfect in -u- such as crepāre.
