γλήνη
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Has been connected with Proto-Germanic *klainiz (“shining”), but Beekes finds this comparison uncertain. It has also been compared with γαλήνη (galḗnē, “calm weather”) and γλαινοί (glainoí, “ornaments of head-bands”). If this hypothesis be true, then the word would be of Pre-Greek origin.
