Spoken articles
[edit]Hello! I am seeking assistance in getting involved in the spoken articles project. I noticed your name on the project page and was hoping you might be able to help. Other than downloading Audacity, I have yet to get into the project; I need some guidance on equipment and how to use the software. Any help you could provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Paul 21:26, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response! With the help of my father, who is a bit of an audiophile, I now know how to use his equipment and make a nice-sounding recording. The sound quality will be good, but will the article itself? Just between you, me, and the wall, I am going to record Inherently funny word; it remains to be seen whether it is an inherently funny article. We shall also see how much vandalism and demands for me to PUT THE MIC DOWN! I receive :) Nice userpage btw, might steal a bit of your layout if that is quite alright by you. Greg Raposo - again
[edit]I asked this last month and didn't receive a response... what's the story behind the entry on Greg Raposo being deleted and then protected as a deleted entry? I heard a song of his on Pandora.com and thought it would be nice to look him up. I can't figure out what the history of this page was. Queerwiki 05:31, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for replying to me. Question: if the only sources of info I can find are promo websites, what can I reasonably do... paraphrase a few bits and source facts, perhaps? I've never done an article from scratch. Queerwiki 08:01, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I posted on this page a few weeks ago (it was since archived) about the behaviour of this editor. Could you please look into this matter? It seems the editor in question has great trouble accepting Wikipedia policy when it doesn't suit him. And apparently other Admins are unwilling to act, as you are somehow seen as JarlaxleArtemis's mentor and protector. Several other editors had raised questions as well, which is why I am bringing the matter up again. -- Ec5618 09:12, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

mediawiki renaming username feature
[edit]I wonder why that's not open to any user to just go and do themselves. It shouldn't be too hard to implement a code for that in mediawiki, would you know something about it? I'm trying to rename mine, but in the past I just created another account.
In fact, I'm today browsing information on everything I need to know to start with contributing with the mediawiki as an outdated programmer willing to do some new stuff. So I wonder if you can give me any guidance on that. So far, all I know is how to talk to few people in #mediawiki, but I'm still not even familiar with bugzilla.
Anyway, I'll dig into it for now, hehe. I think I was just wondering if you could give me any headstart on this so I don't have to bother looking for it or can already start thinking on how I'll do to add that feature to it, if I'm able to.

Wikipedia being used to disseminate propaganda
[edit]Alex,
You made the comment "those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" and asked me to "drop you a line" [1], so here I am.
A little background: there is an article called "Societal attitudes towards homosexuality" [2] that is controlled by a well-organized group of gay advocates. The article is being used, not to inform the reader, but to push the agenda of a group of radical gay advocates. (90% of them openly admit they are gay on their user pages). Since they have organized themselves into a group of about a dozen, they have the ability to overwrite changes to the article without getting a 3rr violation. They simply take turns reverting any changes to the article that aren't pro-gay. In this way they insure that the article remains biased. The editor in question has been a party to this.
When I first discovered the article it was extremely biased. It said things like "damage from natural disasters correlates with Protestantism" and "all mainstream Western health and mental health professional organizations have concluded that reparative therapy is ineffective" and "only 38% of the general public think that homosexual behavior is wrong" (even though their own cite said that was not true).
I have been able to correct some of the most blatant errors in the article by taking them to mediation and making a stink about it. But the article is still badly biased, and that is by design.
I write to you for two reasons. The first reason is to make you aware that your comment about "glass houses" doesn't accurately reflect the situation. I am trying hard to make Wikipedia a more neutral place. My objective when I make changes is to correct errors and bias in the article. They are overwriting my changes because their objective is to make the article pro-gay. It is not a "glass houses" situation by any stretch of the imagination.
My second reason for writing to you is that you have impressive set of Wikipedia credentials. As somebody who understands the inner-workings of Wikipedia, I'd like to get your opinion. Isn't there somebody in the Wikipedia community who cares about the integrity of Wikipedia? Doesn't anybody here care that a group of extremists is using Wikipedia to spread propaganda? I nominated the article for deletion but the same group that controls the article voted it down. One of the key people who is reverting legitimate changes to the article is apparently becoming an admin. Isn't there somebody here that objects to Wikipedia being used to push an agenda? ContiE has impersonated me on other wikis
[edit]Hi, I'm in a potentially awkward position with an Administrator. I have read the Wiki pages on dispute resolution but I'm still not sure how to proceed.
The Admin ContiE has a personal grudge against me for reasons I do not fully understand. He has been this way since I began frequenting wikipedia.
I have done work improving the furvert article. He has basically gone on a crusade against any edit I make. He controls every furry category article and several others ruthlessly. He is an iron fist and bans anyone he edit wars with. I had uploaded pictures and he deleted them with no talking. He seems to believe I am every person he has had an edit war against. He is always using personal attacks, calling me troll without reason. I uploaded them again and he voted them for deleted, but to his surprise the person who runs the images, thank you Nv8200p, found they were acceptable once I tagged them properly. Just recently he removed both the images without himself discussing it in the talk page (unless he was the same person who discussed only one) with the edit here [3] Then ContiE assumed bad faith, added his constant insult of troll in the talk page. It appears on a completed different wiki, a comedy one in all things, somebody else stole my username and I believe this was Conti himself and uploaded them. ContiE showed it as his reason. While vandalism like his, I would revert and mention it, he would ban me permanently if I undid his edit. That is why I am asking admins for help. He holds a couple of accounts on wikipedia and I think they are administrators so I have to be careful who I tell about this. Arights 07:07, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Your monobook.js
[edit]I've been going through the list of articles in Category:Ancient Egypt as well as the sub-categories and noticed that your monobook.js is listed in Category:Ancient Egypt stubs because of {{Ancient-Egypt-stub}} references in it.
I was actually surprised to find out that Wikipedia treats .js files like normal articles in that respect.

Tawker RfA
[edit]Hi,
Not to complain too loudly, but my reckoning has this fellow's support at 78.6% Of course, percentages aren't everything, but I remember being very impressed with your directness at your RfB on consensus constituting 80%. As one who opposed Tawker on the basis of inexperience, I'd appreciate hearing your reasoning please. Best wishes, Xoloz 18:12, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, heck... that was certainly quite thorough and I have no objection to your logic. This promotion did contradict my expectation of your own standards, but I have no doubt the fault is probably mine, in that I misread your RfB responses (or read them through a lens distorted by my own stricter view.) I'm a bit disappointed, but again, that's because I thought you were a stickler, like me, and I was mistaken. I'm just too anal! :)
- One small point... if you really did ignore Dragon Blood's vote as a new user (something I, as a stickler, completely support), I would prefer you strike the vote plainly on the RfA, and adjust the count accordingly. I understand you wouldn't do this for an established user with flawed grounds (like Tim Pope) because you still considered that opinion, but a new user is stricken because there isn't much he can add to the discussion (absent objective evidence, like offending diffs) -- new users are more disqualified than discounted.
- One other small point... although I understand why you don't take age-itis too seriously, remember that it can be a valid concern. Just because you were and are exceptional, it does not therefore follow that all minors are trustworthy. In my view, age-itis can't disqualify anyone, but it is certainly a consideration: age doesn't determine maturity, but it does correlate with it (I wouldn't trust my beloved, but rambunctious, 13-year-old nephew with scissors, much less blocking power on WP!) Of course, now that you aren't even a minor, you are even less convincing as an age-itis countercase -- welcome to adulthood! :) Best wishes, Xoloz 21:11, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
