Hello! Your submission of Varetta Dillard at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! --Metropolitan90 (talk) 05:59, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Varetta Dillard
On 7 January 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Varetta Dillard, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the first major rock and roll concert, 1952's Moondog Coronation Ball, was to include rhythm and blues singer Varetta Dillard, but the show was shut down before she could perform? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Baker Street
Hi. Have provided 3 published sources citing Al Newman as playing riff on Baker Street. These sources are verifiable according to WP rules, especially The History Of Saxophones which is a published scholarly source. I believe it is important to include this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magicjonny (talk • contribs) 20:09, 7 January 2011 (UTC)(Magicjonny (talk) 20:21, 7 January 2011 (UTC))
- Hello again, Guy. I do not know if Baker Street is on your watchlist, but I have added something fairly definitive on the article's talk page. Will address the article itself (and Rafferty's own if necessary), when I recover from jet lag ! Best wishes,

Humanism (life stance)
Thanks for the message. I can't see what was in the deleted article, but I don't see why Humanism as a topic is separate from Humanism as a life stance. It makes sense to me that the Humanism and Secular Humanism articles be improved rather than this extra article be added. Cheers, MartinPoulter (talk) 11:18, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- I agree. But I hadn't seen this when I removed the categories and added the templates -- all routine stuff, I noticed it was in a category I was looking at. Dougweller (talk) 17:28, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Could we talk about this article please? I had a lot of input into the shape of the article some years ago when I was a newbie here - it certainly needs review and changes, but can we agree a way forward at an early stage? Personally, I favour a timeline approach, perhaps a change of title, and a constructive approach that does not simply delete refs to 1916 recordings because they are not "rock and roll". Happy to discuss further. Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:24, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'm always happy to talk, and collaboration is my favourite way of working on articles as it is better to have several views. As I'm working on the article I am wondering if it should be merged with Origins of rock and roll - the two cover the same territory, and it might be appropriate to have one as a section inside the other. I would think that First rock and roll record would be appropriate as a section inside Origins of rock and roll, and the section could then concentrate on listing those records which have been claimed as "the first" rather than having to deal with matters that probably belong more to the origin of rock and roll, such as general discussion of the origin of roll and roll. Having it all in the same article would make it easier to distinguish between those records which were part of the origin of rock and rock and contributed toward "the first", such as "The Camp Meeting Jubilee", and "My Man Rocks Me (with One Steady Roll)", but which are not actually claimed by reliable sources to be "the first". Hi, Guy! The other day, I noticed that Small Faces article was really not well referenced. Well, I started to look it up deeply, many references were outdated and broken links. I started slowly. It's a very long article. Will take lotsa time. I don't think that I can finish it in few days. Anyways, I know you are great at finding sources. The issues so far I figured; for the reunion, wiki article would say '75. Here Ian McLagan himself says "1976 or so". Not clear. I couldn't find any other reference that tells about the year. Also in Reunion: 1975–1978 section, it tells that Paul McCartney says "You can have him" for Jimmy McCulloch. I looked it up everywhere on the internet. Haven't seen anything close. You mind checking? Hope you're having a great weekend. ~ Elitropia (talk) 13:48, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm. Not really one of my fave bands, but I'll have a go. This article refers to a press conference on 18 December 1975 announcing the split-up of the Faces, following which "Kenny Jones and Ian McLagan made a futile attempt to reform the Small Faces." So, it's a moot point whether it happened in 1975 or 1976 - all we can say is that sources say it happened no earlier than December 1975. There's a McCartney quote about Jimmy McCulloch here - not those words though. "You can have him" may derive from a blog post here - not reliable if that's the best we can find, and anyway it may derive from the WP article. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:07, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Good morning and thank you. Then, what McCartney says in that book reference could be replaced what is written in the article. I'll try to make it work, later. Also, it must be boring to look for sources if you're not interested in topic, I'll try not to ask about Small Faces, again ; ) ~ Elitropia (talk) 09:04, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- No probs - always happy to help, even with bands that I never particularly engaged with. I did see the Faces once, around 1972, and they were so drunk and shambolic they simply couldn't perform, and staggered offstage after a couple of numbers. Not impressed. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:08, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, I could imagine, saw some of the Faces videos in youtube. I'm mostly interested in Steve Marriott's work. I'd like to see Steve performing with Humble Pie.. ~ Elitropia (talk) 09:31, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- In my opinion, the Faces were much better as the Small Faces with Marriott as frontman. Rod Stewart tossed out a few good songs with them, but he's no Steve Marriott.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 09:53, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Harewood Park
On 31 January 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Harewood Park, which you created or substantially expanded. I started working with the stars of the Amos 'n' Andy TV show a few months ago. While working with them and trying to see each has as good a bio as possible and infobox photos, I started researching her mother, Lillian. This is how I learned of Ed Sanders. ;-) As you've probably seen, finally was able to get a photo on her page. Really was a challenge, as most of the images for Barbara you see are taken from one of her albums, thus not able to be used here for that purpose. We hope (talk) 19:12, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Oh, and a history of Pontypool rugby. Given that I've probably spent about 25% of my life in the country, that is pretty shameful is it not?

Hi there. I enjoyed the video - fame at last! I know you are busy with various things, including the rock and roll articles, but if you get time it would be great if you could cast your eye over the new lead and characteristics sections that I have drafted as part of the GA review on(/in or maybe its at) my sandbox. It would be extremely useful if you could spot any gaps, hostages to fortune, or just plain mistakes, before I throw it open for comment. I have no problem if you just want to edit on the page. Many thanks, in anticipation.--SabreBD (talk) 13:39, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Thansk again.--SabreBD (talk) 00:57, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well you can ignore that one. A short and sweet outcome to that review. Failed apparently on the grounds of coverage. Not sure I can see how to expand this one, since it pretty much mentions every major act in the genre. Unless you can see how it might be expanded I guess I will give this one up as a loss.--SabreBD (talk) 01:25, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Your edit note on the Wales referendum page, and the comment on the England/Wales 'cultural differences' one.
Well, it wasn't a surprise to see it was your name when I looked. But it was a lot of text to remove for one (incorrect) edit comment. Please strive to choose better edit notes - we all know ho inflammatory they can be. No harm done though, I've added more intro text offline, and am sourcing the refs.
I hope, given this and your comment to me at the (imo) 'essay-style' article on the cultural differences between England and Wales - that you are not in the mindset to be unduly difficult over the edits I wish to incorporate into Wikipedia. Please remember, I (and anyone else) have as much of a right to edit Wikipedia as you. It'a a PITA for all of us at times - but it's true. Matt Lewis (talk) 00:41, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
The passage of time
There are some things about Wikpedia that I really hate, several I almost tolerate, and a few that give me a glimmer of hope. You and I have 'tracked' Skip James and James P. Johnson, and probably thought, back when, that they were perhaps almost unsurmountable problems. Sit tight long enough, and they slowly start to unwind. Neither is perfect, and Wiki surely has flaws running right through it, but looking for green shoots rather than decaying bark, the overall project will easily outlive us both. Maybe, just maybe, it really will be the best encyclopedia in the world. Whenever (please soon) they finally stop the all encompassing 'idiots - now's your chance', and the self defeating and ridiculous 'everyone can edit complete tripe' philosophy, the worker bees here can concentrate on progress, rather than graffiti cleansing. I hope you are still bounding forward - 'TV star' - I hate to say it, but you did old Wiki proud. Cheers,

- Forget the above note, because this one nearly spooked me out. I came across the song article earlier today - for which, well done - then saw Wiki's front page later on, incorporating said dam. I thought that's too much of a coincidence for an aged duffer like me to cope with, before realising that the dam article must have sparked you into action on the song. Least ways, I hope it did ! Cheers,
- Yup. And I'm old enough to remember Lonnie Donegan! I needed a new article to take me past 30,000 edits today (though I know you passed that long ago!) Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:24, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- When I was actively involved in hospital radio, our then engineer was an ex-BBC radio engineer who knew Donegan (and Jimmy Savile as it turned out) pretty well. This came up casually in conversation in 2002, and said engineer (at least ten years my senior and somewhat stunned that I'd heard of, and admired Donegan) proclaimed "Oh, I'll get us access all areas to go see him in concert". Anyhow, we dithered for one reason and another, and Lonnie died on the very tour that I should have seen him. Mucho regretos on my part, and a lesson to us all to grab the moment. So, you are also a five star general at last - welcome to this highly exclusive club of misfits, lunatics and ne'er-do-wells (enough about me). On a broader issue, I thought Joe Jackson might not interest you too much. How about Big Country, Ray Stevens or even Foghat. At least, read the last one's article for a laugh. Regards,
- Oh lord. The problem is that I never (or, hardly ever) even read long articles, and the prospect of having to edit them down is a bit too daunting. I'd rather expand ones that are too small! Hey ho - anyway, thanks for the thought. But - there is one article that you have had a hand in that I definitely will be expanding, as a result of new information that has come my way from an unlikely source. I can't say any more at the moment, but watch this space ..... Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:31, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Ooh, you are a tease. "An article that I have been involved in" - that brings it down to a least ten thousand. Yeah, I prefer the non-league players to the premier/first/or even second and third division ones too. Had a go at Omar Lye-Fook the other day. Nothing truly radical, but I got more enjoyment ratching that article up a notch or two, than I would have had tweaking here and there at something more notable and substantial. Anyhow, as I have sworn at you at least twice with Omar Lye-Fook, I'm off to bed whilst singing "In the misty crystal glitter of that wild and windward spray". Brilliant !

It is only polite to answer someone else`s question, when you have asked several questions yourself. Besides it is usualy easier to bring hard evidence, when the thing you are asking about actualy exists, but there are several cues that suggest it never happened or at least there is no evidence. ~~Xil (talk) 16:26, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
The article title, the intro & infobox are a joke, as they pander to non-British PoV. I'm moving around rather gingerly at the present. My wife is the very bestest ever - damn poor English I know, but it is the truth - nevertheless it is a rather sombre time for us both. However, three things to (unfairly) throw at you. Firstly, I see you that you have 'come out' namewise on your user page. What has brought that about, if I may be so bold ? Secondly, Johnny Pearson has conked, and I may not have the time to do him justice. There is some recent history with me at the article edits (nothing too heavy), but if you could an eye out, I'd be obliged. Thirdly, and back to our conversation of a day or ten ago, what do you know/care/want to delve deeply about/ the history of 'Nero and the Gladiators', 'The Moontrekkers', or even 'The Migil Five'? All are seemingly without Wiki articles, but all of them had 1960s UK chart hits.
Oh yeah, whilst I am trying to pathetically play the sympathy card, try Sleep Room for an effort in mind over matter. Cheers,

- I've had a quick first stab at Johnny Pearson. Good ideas about those 60s groups - I'll add them to my "to do" list. All the best, Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:54, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
Thankyou for helping fix Johnny Pearsons Wiki page. He was a great man. I am not the one reverting your edits. I appreciate your expertise and knowledge.

Task force
Pursuing the task force idea ... would you be interested in participating, and if so, would it be possible for you to round up some people who share your views and keep in touch with them as the task force makes recommendations? - Dank (push to talk) 13:23, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Umm... no, and no. But I may comment at a later stage. Thanks for the invitation. Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:58, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sure. Per WP:CANVASS, if it looks like some people might want to talk about something, then I just go ahead and send a notice to everyone who participated. But on top of that, we really need voices from outside the usual RFA voters, or else all the RFA voters will agree to something that goes up in flames when we bring it to a wider audience. So sure, hop on in whenever you want. - Dank (push to talk) 19:37, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
Lady Lucy French
please would you create a stub for this prominent journalist and fund raiser. ref Earl of Ypres Kittybrewster ☎ 10:18, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Umm... Well, maybe. I've never heard of her, so know nothing about her. And, why ask me, why not do it yourself? Sorry, but in all my time here, I have never been asked to create an article before. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:23, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- PS: She is Lady Lucy Kathleen French, born 1975, Head of Development at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, and apparently a "society journalist" and a fan of Liverpool FC. But I've no reason to believe that makes her "notable" in WP terms. Or why you asked me??!! Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:27, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
- Kitty, why not just create a stub on her and see if other editors will come along and expand it? Although, I'm inclined to agree with Ghmyrtle as regards her notability. I fear a new-page patroller would tag it for speedy deletion. I myself am an inclusionist but I have my doubts about Lady Lucy.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 12:20, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Can I use you as an example?
Hi Ghmyrtle. I'm not sure if you're aware, but I recently started mentoring User:Porchcrop, who has been editting the encyclopedia with a view to become an admin. One of the ways I'm hoping to persuade him that there is more to the encyclopedia than adminship is through examples of editors who have been working well without any interest in adminship. I've been struggling to find examples, and your comment to Kudpung's RfA Reform page is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. So, when I do get round to suggesting examples - would you have any issue with me pointing Porchcrop your way? I might even ask him to talk to you or some such if that's alright? WormTT · (talk) 10:52, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- I don't mind being used as an example, but I'm not really into mentoring people whose interests don't appear to overlap mine, except to give such general advice as any editor could give. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:18, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Oh I wasn't asking you to mentor - just looking for examples. Since you gave such a well written comment, I expect that's all I'll need, possibly with elaboration. WormTT · (talk) 20:38, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
