Update on Parliament house

[edit]

Sorry I have been out for the last few weeks. However, the ACID suceeded and we will get some work done. It is going slowly but it will be FA one day. Thanks. Marlith T/C 04:32, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Excellent Userpage Award
Your user page reaks of total awesomeness and is one of the best user pages I have ever seen. Bmg916Speak 18:55, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, you deserve it. The code looks very intricate indeed. I use Firefox so I have no idea how it looks in IE :-D. Bmg916Speak 01:52, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, never thought of that reason. Not a bad idea at all. I'd love to see a vandal trying to figure it all out, haha. Bmg916Speak 01:59, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sry for messing up the vote!

[edit]

Well, sry, H2O's nomination posting confused me a bit, and I felt challenged by his humorous approach. I hope I didn't annoy you with me messing up the vote discussion? Your response was classy, worthy of an admin! No bad feelings left? Oh, and congratulations for an impressive nomination! A sure win! Gray62 11:06, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You may quite be as much a cheese ball as I seem to be.

[edit]

I appreciate your contribution to bathrobe as well. I'm surprised your mention of the cabal didn't result in a flurry of oppose votes. I bet all the haters are sitting around in their regular robes just wishing they were with the cool crowd.

PS. When you find the cool crowd, let them know so I can come dilute it. Haha! the_undertow talk 23:33, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My recent RfA

[edit]

Thank you for supporting my RfA, which unfortunately didn't succeed. The majority of the opposes stated that I needed more experience in the main namespace and Wikipedia namespace, so that is what I will do. I will go for another RfA in two month's time and I hope you will be able to support me then as well. If you have any other comments for me or wish to be notified when I go for another RfA, please leave them on my talk page. If you wish to nominate me for my next RfA, please wait until it has been two months. Thanks again for participating in my RfA! -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 02:04, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Already disappointed about you :-(

[edit]

Nick, when I appreciated your sense of humor I certainly didn't mean to encourage you to nom candidates who make a joke out of the whole RfA process. Sry that you misunderstood me in this way. Gray62 02:30, 14 October 2007 (UTC) Sry, this was a bit too harsh. I was tired and annoyed about Marlith's unserious approach towards his RfA. I'm sure he is a good guy, and answering the questions in this way probably was only an instance of bad judgment. However, the example of User:KKrouni shows that joke can get out of hand and compromise the work done here, so my criticism wasn't exactly inappropriate. However, that's not your fault, I'm sure you acted in good faith, so, sry about the rant above. Keep up the good work. Gray62 11:30, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Dfrg.msc, Congratulations on becoming an administrator. Obviously, it is unlikely that you will know how to use the tools at first and mistakes are bound to happen, so if you would like to practice using them, with step by step guides to follow, in an environement that you can do no harm in, then why not pop down to the new admin school where we have pages on blocking, deleting and restoring pages, protecting and unprotecting pages and viewing deleted pages. Once again, congratulations and best of luck with the tools. Ryan Postlethwaite 10:36, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Tau arms and Armor XV80.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tau arms and Armor XV80.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:19, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, TB is funny as shit. Having a high IQ for me has been a bitch because it means that I can do mathematics with ease, but perhaps miss the obvious. With that comment about using an underscore, here is a little story. When I was 25 I met this stunning woman of 33 named Gillian. She was refined, educated, and saw this young skinheaded buck and decided that I was what she desired. I was impressed that after sport-hammering so many sorority dolts and gothic deviants that this woman would take a chance on me. As we were at Starbucks, I asked for her email address. She replied, "It's Gillian underscore Byrnes at Aol.com." Genius Chip says, "Underscore? Is that a family name or something?" Yeah. Nice move. the_undertow talk 07:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Any chance you can rename this image (if it hasn't been done already): File:ARipinTimecover.jpg.jpg (note the duplicate .jpg at the end). Apparently this is causing problems, and the extra 'jpg' might be the cause.

Hey man, could you check this section? It's getting out of hand. V-Dash keeps on bugging these users, including myself. Would you do the honors? Thanks, and happy editing. J-ſtanTalkContribs 23:29, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

Actually, my goal is pretty much to figure out a place in Wikipedia where I could work well and efficiently, and get to work on that precise spot, but I'm unsure what exactly my best area is, and I was wondering whether you might help me figure that out, since you're an experienced editor and all. Apart from that, my other goals are the usual; get an article or two to featured status (I've been meaning to work on What Is Your Dangerous Idea?: Today's Leading Thinkers on the Unthinkable lately), etc. I'm not too available except on holidays, so I check in some days a week and correct any minor things, but I do my major work (not that I've done much, lazy as I am) on holidays. (BTW, I'm going to try to get rid of my laziness). Oh, and thanks for adopting me! --Slartibartfast1992 00:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely am relieved to hear that the amount of time I contribute won't affect how good an edior I am :D . I recently switched to firefox (though I'm still annoyed by MSN messenger using IE for the pop-up emails) which I gather is good since it enables a majority of those scripts you mentioned for my use. I personally would like to solve problems between users (in fact one of the major reasons why I participate in AfD is in case the discussion I participate in turns out to have some arguing in it) so I'd really like to find a place where I could resolve disputes between people, if there is such a place. Whenever I can, I'll try to get What Is Your Dangerous Idea? to featured status.
But we do have a problem with that article. See, we need to cover the contents of the book. But the contents are loads of philosophical ideas (and I mean hundreds) and it would be a bad idea to include all of them in the contents section. So, me and Midorihana (a fellow Wikipedian collaborating on the article) have come up with a new organization: Name one sentence for each idea in a paragraph for a given topic, list all dfferent opinions for say "alien life" in one level-4 headline. But I have recently been thinking that none of the ideas would get much mention that way and it would therefore be another bad idea, since we'd have loads of space about nothing in particular, just a potpourri of opposing sentences. We could just select the most renowned person for each point of view of a topic (no need to repeat the same thing. We might be able to select the best-formatted idea for it. Yeah, that might work. What do you think? --Slartibartfast1992 21:18, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've just started using Lupin's Anti-Vandalism tool and already I'm addicted to it. The only problem I encounter is that when I click "UW-test" or "UW-vand" it just takes me to the edit screen for the vandal's talk page, with no automated message inside. Or is that supposed to happen?--Slartibartfast1992 21:57, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I can post the templates, I just thought that when you clicked those blue links on Lupin's it automatically put the template in the talk page, all filled with the correct info. But I'll go on any way I can. Vandalism never rests! Slartibartfast1992 22:05, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see what the problem is! I need autoedit functionality! Any idea how I get that? Slartibartfast1992 22:09, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. And I got the popups as well (very useful). Slartibartfast1992 22:40, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the scripts do help a lot. And I'll see the MedCab (I had noticed it before, dunno why I didn't check it out). But about What's Your Dangerous Idea? the different people's POV's aren't POV's in the traditional sense of the word. It's POV in the sense of what's written in the book, it's content, where different people express their views as to ideas like intelligent design, etc. If I don't include that, I have no in-book content for the article. So it must include these views. But the question is how, without having to type in 101 views into the article. See my dilemma? Slartibartfast1992 00:51, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, no open cases on the MedCab. Any other place where I might be able to resolve disputes? --Slartibartfast1992 01:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I'd be interested in something that deals more with resolving conflicts between users rather than applying in the context of an article; sort of something to help users "get along". I checked out the AMA too; what's your opinion on the claims of it being too bureaucratic? Anyway, I'm gonna go sleep. See you tomorrow. --Slartibartfast1992 01:26, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have an idea. Say we decide, on the talk page, the best two opposite ideas of each topic, and paste only both ideas? They'd be easily understandable, since they would be picked as those of best quality, and there would only be two per subsection in a maximum 7-subsection section, so it would be good on space and people editing the article could make the most out of the ideas. What do you think? --Slartibartfast1992 20:54, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you liked the idea. I'll see if it can be adapted to fit whatever requirements a featured article needs to have and I'll post it on the talk page so that Midorihana and I can get to work deciding which ideas would be best of each subsection, and what topics the subsection should be about.

On another topic, Lupin's AVT kicks ***. It makes fighting vandalism so easy and fast. Plus, I've already got my record for number of edits in a month this December, and only about half the month has gone by!

About the heated AfDs, I always aim at Biographical since they tend to be the most heated ones, but lately I haven't been lucky enough to get arguing madmen. If there's a minor disturbance, I just type in a good argument and they shut up. I hate it when that happens. I don't think the welcome comitee is the thing for me, but I'll check it out anyway. Who knows? I might want to participate in it. I'll keep checking on MedCab, in case any new cases show up.

Thanks, --Slartibartfast1992 15:21, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know everybody is busy with christmas, but tomorrow is also my birthday! (and your talk page isn't the only talk page where I've plastered that notice). Just letting some people know. And, of course, Merry Christmas! (I didn't add a template since I feel they're a bit overused lately). Happy Holidays, --Slartibartfast1992 23:06, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A wikipedia project that serves as a place where users can get signatures, userboxes.... stuff like that, so they don't have to make it themselves or ask a specific user to do it. What do you think of that idea? RuneWiki777 19:15, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dude

[edit]

Three things:

  1. You have one of the best userpages I've seen. Nice.
  2. I am very displeased that the pic of the day covers the gif of the BRC thereby completely hiding me. You got something to say?
  3. Less of a social butterfly, could you be? You seriously need to join in the festivities on IRC. In the words of a wise man from some energy drink commercial, "GET TO IT!"

That is all. LaraLove 04:13, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Yule Log

[edit]

...do Australians even celebrate Christmas? I'm still not even sure if you people speak English or Aboriginal or Maori or whatever, so you can't be sure. Never mind that I spent a week in Cairns when I was twelve, I don't remember anything of it. I didn't even know to pronounce it "cans" until I got home.

Anyway, Happy Winter Holiday of Your Choosing. Or Summer. Whatever. This internet globalization thing disorients me at times. Tijuana Brass (talk) 09:16, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dude, I can't even figure out how to get Image:LailaBRC.JPG on the page. For realz, yo. How am I supposed to fix your shit? Anyway, I don't need the userbox, I still think you're teh cool. And suck it up, get on IRC. It's teh fun. So, yea... when is Chip not the master? He hooked us up with an official website that makes us an "Organization", srsly, the URL is proofs. And uh, yea, NYE. I worked. Made $125 in 4 hours. That's like... a lot... for me. So it was good times. Came home, had a shitty frozen dinner with Welch's Sparkling White Grape Juice mixed with Merlot, played Guess Who? and then watched the ball drop on MTV. Then I came here. Rock on. Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 04:11, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possible COI

[edit]

Hi there. I'm a newbie (I've been here since mid-January) and I am a little unsure of myself when it comes to handling vandalism, spam, and other possible abuses of Wikipedia, so I am seeking advice or assistance.

This user account has its user page redirecting to a mainspace page, here. In my opinion, this is a pretty blatant COI situation, so I placed a COI tag on the mainspace page and posted a note on the user's talk page. What else can/should be done?

I asked an administrator whom I trust, and he felt that the article may be a deletion candidate and that I might consider placing the WP:PROD tag in the article. But first, he suggested that you might have a better idea of the notability of the subject since you seem involved with a graffiti-related WikiProject. So here I am, asking your advice on where to go from here. Thank you in advance for your trouble. Jonneroo (talk) 13:45, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, but as it's been about 10 days since I posted, and I have not heard from you, please disregard my request. I will seek advice elsewhere. Jonneroo (talk) 00:15, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But I was just taking a new case, and right after I took it (which the requesting user accepted, of course) the user who had requested it asked me to leave the case. I had left my computer for days before I found out about this new message, so I have only recently discovered the message and left the case. I've sent a messsage to a user requesting to mediate a case they requested, but in case they don't want me to mediate for the same reason, do you have any advice? --Slartibartfast1992 19:25, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just been asked to mediate after all so never mind. But we haven't talked in a while, so what's up? --Slartibartfast1992 21:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm doing OK. Last time I checked my contribs I was past 1100, which is good since I haven't been particularly active recently. Anyway, you're right about Lupin's not being what it used to be. When I try to rollback, it doesn't rollback automatically, I have to click "save page" on the opening window. Same for uw-vand and uw-test notices. But I'm actually optimistic about this new case at MedCab. Soon as I finish my homework (getting a hefty amount lately) I'll get to it. If I get kicked out of any other cases, I'll try doing a barrel roll ;) . --Slartibartfast1992 22:01, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

She wants you on that IRC channel ASAP, because she needs more people like you to distract her and cheer her up from this very sad news. She also wanted you to know that your teh man. Srs. My leg isn't getting amputated. They just had to cut my leg and drain some fluid from an abscess caused by a nasty spider bite. Most painful experience of my life... and I've broken my leg, had two kids and have a tattoo on my spine. I get to do it again on Tuesday. :( Anyway, I'm also not sad about the leg, I'm sad about teh_undertoes. People rly need to get the story straight. Anyway, get in IRC, do0d! It's a party. Thanks for uploading Image:Tau arms and Armor Gun Drone.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:14, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Project activity

[edit]
File:W40000 Symbol.png

This message is a test to check to see if members of the Warhammer 40K Project are still online, active and interested in helping the project. If you are no longer interested in the project all you need to do is...nothing! If you don't respond to this I'll take your name off the list and you'll never here from us again. If you're the proactive type you can remove the name yourself or talk to me and I'll do it.

If you are still interested in helping out the 40K project or otherwise still want to be listed there you can say so in response to this message on your talk page or on mine. Alternately you can add our new userbox ({{User WikiProject Warhammer 40,000}}) to your userpage and I'll take that as a response. The userpage doesn't automatically include people in a category of members yet, but it might in the future.

We've assessed most of the articles in the project on the Version 1.0 assessment scale (the table on the project page should take a few days to update) but we need to push to get the core articles in the project up to GA status. Thanks for all your help. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help the project along. Protonk (talk) 21:01, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the day

[edit]

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:49, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:NamadgiTree.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Eucalyptus niphophila - Mount Ginini - Namadgi National Park.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Eucalyptus niphophila - Mount Ginini - Namadgi National Park.jpg]]. Assistance with repeat Vandal IP 68.198.222.5

[edit]

I rarely report vandals, preferring instead to send them a polite note and leave them be. In this instance though this is an IP[[3]] (or two? [[4]]) that has a history of unconstructive edits, and recently making more (e.g. 1, 2, 3). They are consistently reasserting their poorly written and factually incorrect edits for [biodegradable plastic]] and it's becoming very tedious. I've tried reasoning with them, but they are not being reasonable. I am having difficulty getting responses from admins, and you had previously assisted me on a similar matter, so I thought it appropriate to bring it to your attention. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tau arms and Armor Devil Fish and FW.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tau arms and Armor Devil Fish and FW.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:DFRLego_031.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DFRLego_031.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:31, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent unwatched changes

[edit]

What would you think of a recent changes page for articles with few watchers? When you patrol recent changes, do you find that the rare/obscure articles (which typically have fewer editors watching them) are in greater danger of having vandalism missed, or is this usually caught? When you come across vandalism that would probably have been missed, is it usually on obscure pages? I have a Tracking watchers on recent changes proposal going, but given that I don't do too much recent changes patrolling, I thought it might be a good idea to ask someone who does for input. –MT 22:11, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New page development

[edit]

Hello,

I have developed a page regarding an organization by keeping all the rules and regulations of Wiki in mind. I wanted to have a feedback on the same. Would also want to have details as to where to put signature, citations, references etc. It will be great if you could assist me.

Waiting for your confirmation.

Thank you

Orphaned non-free image (File:DFRLego 045.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:DFRLego 045.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. FileBot (talk) 20:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An exciting opportunity to get involved!

[edit]

As a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 00:08, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:20royalsfront.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:20royalsfront.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Killiondude (talk) 08:37, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
