Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Holidays/Christmas task force

Initial setup

At the moment, the task force is working through the steps at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history/Coordinators#Instructions. -- Suntag 17:36, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Christianity coordinators elections

edit

Any parties interested in being one of the coordinators of WikiProject Christianity and its various related projects is encouraged to list themselves as a candidate at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Coordinators/Election 2. It would be particularly beneficial if we had individuals from as broad a range of areas of the project as possible, to help ensure that we have people knowledgable about the widest range of content possible. Wikipedia:Books

edit

Anyone interested in helping put together a wikipedia book relating to Christmas? The sooner we can get one together, the more attention I think it is likely ro receive. John Carter (talk) 16:49, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

revisiting priority scale on two articles

edit

Any chance Zwarte Piet and Krampus could be bumped up from low to mid? The one is a controversial character, and the other seems to be reacquiring some more notability; some of the info also deserves more attention. Шизомби (talk) 05:35, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Problems with NORAD Tracks Santa article

edit

I would like to draw the Christmas Task Force's attention to the multiple issues that the NORAD Tracks Santa article has. The two major editors have been informed about them and have chosen to split the article into seven small articles, each of the six new articles having multiple issues themselves. I would particularly like to draw your attention to those editors repeatedly going against Wikipedia's standards on writing about fiction, as detailed in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction) and in the essay Wikipedia:SANTA by insisting on writing articles that say that Santa Claus exists.Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 11:36, 10 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

The problems are largely solved now and the article is unlikely to become such a mess ever again.Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 06:52, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Gremlins

edit

Does anyone have an idea why Gremlins is listed as part of this project? The film takes place during the Christmas season, but that is not even secondary to the plot of the actual movie. The movie itself is not what most would consider "related to Christmas" based on the other articles listed in . Same argument goes for Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity / Christmas. If you have any info/explanation please share. Thanks. Sottolacqua (talk) 21:13, 14 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I had the same question about Eight Crazy Nights, which is clearly a Hanukkah film. Even if you want to argue that it takes place around the same time as Christmas, it's not about Christmas - just the opposite, in fact.(98.218.126.134 (talk) 23:34, 22 December 2011 (UTC))Reply

Christianity portals

edit

I am currently trying to get together some lists of articles relevant to each Christianity-related portal which could be used, at least potentially, to help bring all the extant portals up to Featured Portal status. The current, admittedly incomplete, list of articles, images, etc., relevant to each portal can be found at User:John Carter/Christianity portals. I also think that, at least in theory, we would probably best use a single article only in a single portal, and that we probably have enough articles to do that, although there might be a few exceptions. I would welcome input from anyone on the associated talk page regarding which articles and other materials they would like to see associated with which portal(s), any suggestions for additional portals or changes to existing portals, etc. Thank you. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

edit

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Redirect" hatnote

edit

I added a "redirect" hatnote to make it easier for people who are looking for Wikipedia:The Night Before Wikimas, which may appear in the WP:Signpost next week. It's also making the rounds elsewhere on Wikipedia.

I would ask that the redirect be left up at least through the Christmas season. If you do remove it, please follow WP:BRD and discuss.

My personal preference is that it be permanent, but I recognize that might be controversial, so feel free to start discussing that immediately if you like. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 02:17, 25 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Assistance on List of Christmas carols article

edit

Hello, I am about writing the List of Christmas Carols article which requires immediate attention. The article has since gone into disrepair and I and others have been trying to bring it back to the status others had achieved, however, there is one particular editor who has continually reverted any edits made and who is currently serving out a block due to this type of behaviour on another article and who insists popular Christmas songs such as The Christmas Song, Silver Bells and others are Christmas Carols (A better understanding will be got by observing the talk page in recent years), which contradicts the consensus many editors reached some years ago on the defining of which type of songs would be present on the list. I would be grateful if all could collaborate and return the article to its pristine state that others had achieved in the past. Also, I would be grateful if everyone could give the articles Christmas carol and Carol a look over too. I would like to see the articles achieve Wikipedia:Featured articles status in advance of the holiday. Thank you 37.18.134.184 (talk) 16:34, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
