Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Japan
Points of interest related to Japan on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – Style |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Japan. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Japan|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Japan. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

MMA fighter fails WP:NMMA (no evidence of ever ranking in world top 10 for division) and WP:NSPORT/WP:GNG for lack of WP:SIGCOV. Coverage in article (and in WP:BEFORE search) is routine match coverage and/or non-independent coverage on the website of his fighting federation. Dclemens1971 (talk) 16:36, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

- Delete No significant independent coverage. Match results are not significant and articles on Rizin's website are not independent. Fightmatrix has his current world ranking at #524, so he's not close to meeting WP:NMMA. Papaursa (talk) 17:41, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Redirect to Boxing at the 1936 Summer Olympics – Welterweight - no significant coverage in any sources apart from listings type sites, and the corresponding jawiki is similarly unsourced. Subject finished 17th in class in the 1936 Olympics. I therefore submit that the article does not meet WP:NSPORT in its own right, but a redirect to the competition page is appropriate. Keep. I added some sources and it looks like he had a career after the Olympics that was, at minimum, interesting. I think with more research we could have a good article here. ScribblingTiresias (talk) 00:04, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment ScribblingTiresias you had accidentally switched one of the sources in the reference to the Meiji Shrine Games, so I altered that. I am not averse to keeping the article, but I would not say that the sources represent WP:SIGCOV - they are all stats / listings sources apart from the journal article (nice find!), which only gives him a somewhat passing mention. I am a bit surprised that there appears to be nothing on kowiki, though my Korean is by no means good enough to be absolutely certain about that. SunloungerFrog (talk) 00:41, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Well, I did find this on kowiki - looks like he might have won another national competition. But no article in his own right as far as I can see. SunloungerFrog (talk) 00:54, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

No evidence of notability for this award. The underlying Takeda Foundation is a redlink (has never been blue). The organization's listed webpage [1] does not list any activity since 2006. That site's lists of awards only include 2001 and 2002 and notes that the award programs are suspended as of 2003. DMacks (talk) 09:50, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

The claim to notability, playing 16 football games (and probabaly not full games) in Singapore is weak. The sources are not enough to rectify that, and as such he fails WP:SPORTCRIT and WP:GNG. The claim to notability, playing 16 football games (and probabaly not full games) is weak. The sources are not enough to rectify that, and as such he fails WP:SPORTCRIT and WP:GNG. No refs on the page for many years. Many other language wikis have pages but I'm not seeing usable reliable sources to cite. I'm not finding much else, but I don't speak any of the relevant languages, I would be interested to see if anyone can find anything which would meet the GNG JMWt (talk) 11:40, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

- cpmment I would say merge to Chyornye Bratya except that the one source I saw of any merit (the second listed in the Russian article) doesn't support the claims made. But whatever we say about this strait clearly belongs in that article. Mangoe (talk) 00:02, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- Also, this name doesn't seem to be used in English literature, so I'm actually thinking delete. Mangoe (talk) 00:04, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- There are a few more citations in the Russian article about Henry James Snow, ru:Сноу, Генри Джеймс. It cites https://webcitation.org/6ELOwHZxN?url=http://www.kurilsk-adm.ru/index.php?option=com_content#mon3#mon3 for the claim that the strait and volcano are named after him. The Japanese page about the islands, ja:知理保以島, seems to have the same place as Rakku Strait (猟虎水道, rakku suidō, 'sea otter waterway/channel/strait'), with a broken citation link. I would: 1. spell it as Snow; 2. rather than using the name unqualified, say something like "known in Russian as the 'Snow Strait' (Russian: пролив Сноу, romanized: proliv Snou)"; 3. make this a redirect (or I guess you say a merge but there's not much of a difference). - Delete Unbuilt TV stations rarely merit articles. If this were in the US and an unbuilt construction permit, it would be a bright-line deletion. An article on TV in Tokushima Prefecture might merit a sentence or two on this station being proposed. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 03:28, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

Creator is globally locked. Not remotely indicating that WP:GNG and WP:SPORTCRIT is met. Never played on a notable level. 0 J League games, 0 cup games. Played some school matches before retiring; why he retired is described by himself in the Nikkan Sports source in the Japanese Wikipedia. - Keep: I don't really see how WP:GNG is not satisfied when there are multiple articles with significantly more than WP:ROUTINE mentions in Nov. 2014, Dec. 2014, Jan. 2015 and in Apr. 2022. Unless these sources fail WP:RS, the fact that there is interest in knowing more about this player who had a very unremarkable career seven/eight years on from the notable event of when he was signed out of high school is IMO a notable indication of potential notability. Most players that retire before they turn 27 with (apparently) 0 games in the top two divisions don't get anything more than a one-liner as part of a broader list of retirees or a courtesy post on the club's website, so that he had a lengthy article & interview is what stands out most to me. Probably someone who speaks Japanese could locate better sources, as I imagine there is a reason why this player's retirement received this level of attention. Comment on the talk pages of the articles, not here. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.
