Association of the Odd

I see you just speedied this. Please remember that hoaxes are not included in CSD G1. I'd put it through AFD and get a quick concensus from comic fans that it's a hoax. At least it was unverifiable. - Mgm|(talk) 09:42, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Sorry, huge backlog, and I sometimes don't spend as much time on each as I should. Restoring now. AmiDaniel (talk) 09:44, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

My RfA

Hello, AmiDaniel/Archive10, and thank you for voting as well as the very supportive words on my recent RfA! With a final vote of 84/1/4, I have now been entrusted with the mop, bucket and keys. I will be slowly acclimating myself to my new tools over the next months, but welcome any and all feedback and suggestions on how I might be able to use them to help the project. Thanks again! Falun Gong

Hey, I was wondering if you could do a revert count on the Falun Gong page again. Things have been much better since you blocked one participant of a revert war about a week ago but it's creeping back up again. This time it's Dilip and Samuel that are close if not over. I think I've got three also (two of them were removing non-notable information). Thanks! CovenantD 20:23, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request for Unprotection

Can you unprotect the Anaheim Hills, California page since that was the title agreed upon in Will Bebacks comments 2 weeks ago. I would appreciate it if you could unprotect it so that I can work on moving the page over to its compromised new home. Thank you. --Ericsaindon2 21:52, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikiproject:Communities

Hey, I was wondering if you would post the WIkiproject:Communities on a couple different bulletin boards, commmunity pages, improvement article pages, etc. so that it can be improved and get noticed. I would appreciate if you would assist me in doing that. Thanks. --Ericsaindon2 21:42, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

Thanks very much for unblocking me- it is sad that Wikipedia needs a blocking system in the first place. Thanks again for your efforts, --themit 04:06, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem, and I agree entirely. Unfortunately, I'm afraid blocking will always be necessary on Wikipedia, and we will likely never find a way to prevent the collateral damage from blocking that you had the pleasure of experiencing today. Anyway, feel free to contact me if you ever need my help with anything again. AmiDaniel (talk) 04:08, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Never thought you were ignoring me for a second (it's obvious how busy you are!). Thank you for your comments! Am a wee bit disappointed my edit summary usage wasn't 100% tho! Blocking of 82.36.241.165

Hi. You might like to have a closer look at the edits being done by 82.36.241.165. This user has been blocked several times already by several admins, but is still carrying on with a campaign of vandalizing edits. The earlier blcok have had little effect. Do you think it's time for a longer ban now? --MichaelMaggs 04:56, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the IP address is a shared IP registered to Telewest Broadband, and it's quite likely that there are multiple users connect through the IP. Thus there are twenty or so vandals causing all this mess, but possibly hundreds of legitimate editors whom we don't want to disable from editing. In any case, the person I blocked tonight quite likely is not the same person who got blocked the last time. AmiDaniel (talk) 11:02, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the background. It must be really difficult for you and your co-admins when this sort of thing can't be stopped. All the best --MichaelMaggs 14:13, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dispute about external link section in the article guru

Since your previous block against me was related to the article guru, (for WP:3RR on talk:Sikhism) you may be interested in the dispute on the article talk:guru. I oppose a strict application of the guideline WP:EL for this is article. But if other contributors insist on applying it strictly then I request that this is done consistently. This seems not to be the case now. The guideline is only applied strictly when it supports a POV. Now one editor is restoring a dead external link in spite of my motivated deletion of it on the talk page! Can you please have a look or refer me to somebody who has more experience in disputes regarding external links sections. Thanks. Andries 18:50, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Shree Swaminarayan Samprday

Please do not make a big change like this again without discussing and just to let you know Shree Swaminarayan Sampraday is a sect which promotes Bhagwan Swaminarayan so it needs two differnt articles just like BAPS and Kakaji.

I assume you mean Shree Swaminarayan Sampraday, which was quite nearly identical to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, and so I merged the histories of the former back into the latter. I don't believe this was mistaken on my behalf, but if you disagree please discuss it at Talk:Bhagwan Swaminarayan and if the other contributors agree that the article need be split, then we can work something out. Thanks for your note, and I hope we can come to an understanding on this matter. AmiDaniel (talk) 21:05, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

2001 pro-AfD comment

How can I be brief when trying to present facts countering a series of untrue accusations? And how can you ignore the weight of it> I have laid out the evidence point for point. How can you say it does not disproove the ant of the AfD charges? -- Jason Palpatine 10:41, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

I read throgh the AfD, I read through the original text of the article, and I read through some of your arguments on the DRV, none of which adequately addressed my concerns nor demonstrated, in my mind, that the AfD had not run its propper course. I'm sorry about this, but I really don't think the article has a place on Wikipedia. If you would like, however, I would gladly userfy this article for you, since I realize that you invested a lot of effort into writing it. AmiDaniel (talk) 21:21, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Golden Dawn article

The problem isn't sock puppets its establihed users reverting the article back to promote their own political agenda.

Please block this page so that myself and the established editors can sort this editing war out. No entries have been discussed that JMAX555 changed. The problem isn't new users its three established users editing the artilce to promote a biased political view point. Please do lock this page so that myself and other established non-biased user may sort these recent edit war changes out.

It needs protecting fully to stop these established user from vandalising the article.

Golden Dawn article edit war

There has been another now requesting a semi protect on the Golden Dawn.

There has been now more editing and reverting on the Golden Dawn article, please lock this article to stop this now, full-blown edit war.

The article needs protecting with immediate effect with a full lock, so that some established editors can sort this edit war out.

Please lock the article as this is getting out of hand, reverts are getting more and more and shorter spaces of time.

PS: Please lock down the HOGD Inc. article as there is now an editing war on that page, please see this link. It needs immediate, full lock down so that reverting can stop and the compromises can begin. Citations need to be worked out properly without users reverting the article back and forth.

AOL/IP Blocks

Please be aware that when you block an AOL/IP number for vandalism that subsequent innocent users randomly assigned that number by AOL are blocked as well. This happens to me frequently. Please release the block. Information below. WBardwin 07:18, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing. You were blocked by AmiDaniel for the following reason (see our blocking policy): vandalism Your IP address is 207.200.116.67.
I'm well aware (I've removed many of your autoblocks before =D). I only blocked the IP for 15 minutes to shake a persistent vandal, and you seem to be back editing--the block will expire soon, likely before I can get to it. Thanks for the note though. Mail Order Bride

Michaellovesnyc 15:09, 12 June 2006 (UTC) michaellovesnyc - Why is it that anti Mail Order Bride propaganda is allowed such as 3 incidents of abuse (out of 50,000+ murders during the same period) while 1. Demographics from the CIA factbook is allowed to be deleted 2. Murder statistics of Russian women cited from Pravda.ru is allowed to be deleted 3. The response from a person accused of a crime is allowed to be deleted - a direct response 4. The origin of the word which is cited is allowed to be deleted.

How can these entries with substantial cites be allowed to be deleted but the antecdotal stories of abuse are allowed to remain? The point of view is biased and unfair. I ask the moderators to review my article versus this version and tell me how my article is not fair. There was never any consensus to delete demographics; I do not think a 2 to 2 vote with one split is a consensus.

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mail-order_bride"

Here is what my article had that they deleted. I think it is a better article that is well cited without POV or antectodatal stories. Please let me know what you honestly think in all fairness versus the current article which I feel is heavy handed POV and antectdotal. Thank you.

I'm not taking a side on this article either way; I simply stepped in and protected when the edit war got out of hand. Please discuss it on the article's talk page or seek Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. If I can help you out in any other way, however, I will be glad to. Also, could please not post entire 20kb articles on my talk page? Thanks. AmiDaniel (talk) 22:15, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

EasyPizza dispute

If you feel that doing so would be appropriate, could you contribute to the EasyPizza dispute? Any opinion on the matter is fine. I'd send the whole debate to a User Conduct RfC, but it requires two editors to try to resolve the dispute and so far it appears Politakis and I are the only two people debating this. Perhaps another person's input can make the formal process unnecessary. Even if not, thanks for your time spent on this. lowercase 21:19, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would gladly participate in the dispute and any user conduct RfC you decided to file. I remember there being a few other users who got involved too, whom I can find by glancing through my archives. Keep me in touch, and I'll go take a look at EasyPizza's talk page. AmiDaniel (talk) 00:35, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

VandalProof on another Wiki

Is there a way to run vandalproof on another wiki? I am an admin/bcrat at this wiki User:GeorgeMoney/Wherewiki/current, and I want to test out the admin tools. --GeorgeMoney T·C 05:10, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Let me go about getting a sysop account on that wiki, and I'll see if I can get VP tweaked to work on it. Note however, that I don't have many sysop tools right now, just blocking. AmiDaniel (talk) 22:22, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, now it will be moved to a 24/7 location hosted by xyrael. You should make it so you can run vandalproof on many different wikis. Different language wikis would be different, because they use different templates, and it would be a hassle to translate, but other english wikis should be easy. It should be so at the click of a button, you can either use VP on WP or the commons instead of having to tweak it every time somebody wants to run it on another wiki. Or you can import the RC's from both and use VP on both at the same time (but that might be harder). Thanks, --GeorgeMoney T·C 03:40, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Pssst .... de:Spezial:Contributions/AmiDaniel. AmiDaniel (talk) 03:44, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
lol. But I don't think they use the shortcut WP (do they?) --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:01, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, they do. But nothing else is the same ... they don't even have vandalism warning templates!!!!! Like, WTF?! I don't get it. They have one: de:Vorlage:Test, and that's it. I just don't get. I'll change their ways though =D. AmiDaniel (talk) 04:04, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wow! No warning templates! They must let the vandals off pretty easy! --GeorgeMoney T·C 05:25, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pacific Coast University School of Law article

Just an update that Bobak Ha'Eri, Esq. communicated with us and there has been a general agreement that the change proposed by the Vice Dean Charles Hicks, Esq. of our institution was correct and okay to revise.

Also, Bobak's suggestion on where to move that particular paragraph in the article was very, very helpful.

And, yes, even though I am a newbie to all this, I did somehow manage to move the paragraph all by myself.

Thank you again for all your help.

Vandalism?

Hi there,

Apparently my IP address has been blocked due to vandalism. No one using this computer has ever attempted to modify Wikipedia to its detriment. Any ideas on why the IP has been blocked?

Thanks!

The talk page (did you bother to read it) had far more than one sentence. Obviously you didn't bother to read it, and I'm getting tired of typing the same thing over and over again, taking one step forward just so you can set me back three steps. You are hereby charged with burning my britches. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rompe (talkcontribs)

I'm not logged in-As for now I want it semi-protected because if I come back (I might, though I might not), I can edit it and I might want my user page protected without ever being unprotected. Though if I decide that I won't return I'll ask you to update it to full protection. Might be in a little bit, one edit over three months or so. O.K? ForestH2

Wikipedia:Deletion review/2001: A Space Odyssey (film synopsis)

You wrote:

Sigh. So, this is the end -- too bad.

I just want you to know; just as the powers that be haven't changed their minds, neither have I. I still insist that this is a wrong decision. I branched the synopsis article from the main film article in an act of good faith. This was the work of many and not any single individual. This user thinks 2001: A Space Odyssey is the best science fiction film ever made; and a 196-word synopsis just does not do the film justice.

Mod reject limit

I assume you already know this, but VandalProof does not list all denied users if you deny more then one. See [1]. Prodego talk 23:35, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yep, I know. I had a "Redim" statement instead of a "Redim Preserve," thus the previous values were getting erased everytime I added one. Now fixed on mine; you'll just have to wait =P. AmiDaniel (talk) 23:37, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I noticed you seem to be implimenting an 'admin mode as well. Will that be out in the next version? Prodego talk 23:40, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it most certainly will =D. I've actually had blocking working on test.wikipedia for quite some time, and today I decided to try it out on en. Seemed to work flawlessly--only "bug" was that I forgot I was on the same IP as my test account and was completely baffled when it failed to post my block message once because I was blocked =P. I've made a couple notes about what I'm working on in v1.3 at WP:VPRF. I'll hopefully release it in the not-too-distant future, i.e. 1-2 weeks or so. AmiDaniel (talk) 23:45, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Nice! The other thing that is bugging me is that there is no way to automatically send a {{subst:declineVP}} message. Is there any chance of that being added? Prodego talk 23:56, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I could probably implement something along those lines--not really all that difficult actually. Oh, and just so you know, since I'm going interwiki with this next release, I'm now reworking the whole approval process. User talk:AmiDaniel/VandalProof will likely soon be replaced by User:AmiDaniel/VP/Approval, the userlist will now be hosted at User:AmiDaniel/VP/L, and the mod list at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Mods. It will still only load the last version of the u-list edited by a mod, and the hole encryption diddy is just to reduce file size and load-time. I absolutely love my new log-in; it takes like 0.05 seconds, and all thanks to Yurik's query API interface =D. AmiDaniel (talk) 00:01, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about Wikipedia:VandalProof instead. I think this would be the time. Prodego talk 00:03, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well ... yes, I agree. I dunno, I think I'd still like to host the lists and technical requirements in my userspace just for consistency between projects, but I think it probably is about time to move WP:VPRF to Projectspace. Again, I'd like to strike up some discussion on this with others before implementing, but yes, I think the project is ready to go to Wikispace. AmiDaniel (talk) 00:06, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think ultimately it is up to you, I can't see any reason for it not be there, especially if it would be interwiki. On an unrelated note; would it be possible for someone who is a sysop, but not you, to edit User:AmiDaniel/VP/Mods, and have it affect the program? Or will other security measures be implemented? Prodego talk 00:11, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Currently, yes, any sysop can edit it and have their changes actualized--it would be quite easy for me to change this, in fact absolutely painless; however, I think I'm going to leave it that way. Especially when VP goes live on other projects, I likely won't be around all the time, and it may be necessary for a sysop to step in and change the mods list. Also, if for some unforseeable reason, I'm no longer able edit Wikipedia or continue the project further, I think it would be quite beneficial if any sysop would be able to adjust mod lists in my absence should that ever be necessary. If we're willing to trust sysops with the block button, I think I should be able to trust them with deciding who can / cannot modify VP's user list :). AmiDaniel (talk) 00:53, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. By the way TBC changed username and is no longer a mod. The new username is Tree Biting Conspiracy, if you want to re-approve. Prodego talk 01:00, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speaking of vandalproof, can I have the admin version now. I just want to test it out. Also, because the wiki is no longer hosted on where's computer, and it is hosted on a real server, do you want to do your testing there instead of bugging the devs? The new location is http://wiki.xyrael.net/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page . Thanks, --GeorgeMoney T·C 01:06, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're going to have to wait like everyone else, and it's also not just like I push a couple of buttons and voila! it works on every wiki. You're going to have to give me some time, and your request is relatively low priority, no offense. Also, the admin tools aren't really that amazing, currently only blocking and warning a user in one click. As for using Where's Wiki, I'm afraid much rather do my bot testing on the dev Wiki, since it runs off the NFS copy it is almost identical to en (other than the occasional system message here and there), whereas Where's is quite different, though none the less fun to play on :). On translating VP to MAC OS

Please have someone check to see if the .NET framework works for MACs. I know there is a project that translates NET for linix. I will check up on that. but from what I saw on the disscussion forum... if C# will work on Macs, than so will C++/CLI.

I guess what I am getting at here is that I would be glad to take a shot at translating your code... Trust me basic is easy to read compared to C++ :). Depending on what you think of my offer, please give me detials on one of the thirteen parts. Eagle talk 03:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Note, the graphical interface of your program would be very easy to program in .NET...

Drawbacks that I can see, anyone who wants to use the program has to download the .NET framework. Eagle talk 03:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

NOTE, I just was on your user page... and VP users reverted your page back to proper state faster than I coud even press the history button!!! LOLEagle talk 03:13, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry

From what I searched on google, C++/CLI is out... plain and simple the current version of the .Net framwork is yet working on Mac Os. Right now, forget my offer to help... (I need to think about possible re-write in C++) I am sorry Ami-Daniel, I jumped too soon... When I saw you express confidence in C# (which does work using NET 1.1) I assumed that C++/CLI would work as well. Eagle talk 03:38, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey Eagle! Glad to see you're back--kinda disappeared for a while. Anyway, thanks for your offer. I was under the impression that C was quite a multiplatform language--what on earth do those Apple people program in?!? Anyway, I'm going to look into this RealBASIC thing and see how difficult a "translation" would be. I really wish I had begun this entire project in C, but it was one of these things that began as righting a simple little RC patrol script, and then grew and grew and grew until it was too late to begin it in C. I dunno, we'll see. I think I'm going to focus my energy currently on getting 1.3 out and getting it operational on other wikis right now; the mac experience will have to wait. Ah yes, I couldn't think of it just then. I dunno, what do you think of the changes to the message? I find it a bit too intimidating, but I dunno ... just sort of stumbled upon it and felt like cleaning up a bit. Also, what wiki(s) are you an admin on? Walk to Emmaus Userfication

Thanks. Judging from the responce from DRV I should have just come straight to you.  :-) But after having done some resarch I'm not sure that I even want it. Would it not be better to just write it up from scratch (it was just a stub) and lessen the chance of a speedy deletion under G4 if I recreate it? Thanks again for being willing to help out. Eluchil404 21:26, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, I would recommend that, if you'd like to attempt recreating the article, you begin it somewhere in your userspace (either building it from scratch or working off the deleted content of the article), and once you feel it has matured into a full and unique article, I'd recommend you return to DRV and present your new version in your userspace and see if the community supports moving your version into mainspace. If you recreate it at its original location, no matter how unique it is, I can't guarantee that it wouldn't be deleted under G4. Anyway, I'll gladly userfy it for you, and please feel free to ask if you have any questions about Wikipedia's deletion processes or anything else. AmiDaniel (talk) 21:33, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I know I've been acting like a clueless newbie over this but I actually have a fair amount of experience over the last couple of weeks in AfD so I ought to understand the process. Thanks for the tips. If you would userfy it to User:Eluchil404/Walk To Emmaus I would be grateful. Eluchil404 21:56, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, done. And not to worry, WP's deletion processes can be quite perplexing; I've been busy on *fD's for months now and still don't understand all of the minor intricacies. AmiDaniel (talk) 22:50, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Further Violating 3 Revert Rule

AmiDaniel, you banned Andries for violating the 3 Revert Rule on June 2nd 2006: Reference. He violated the 3 Revert Rule again on the Sathya Sai Baba. See my complaint: Reference SSS108 talk-email 23:48, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

woops

nevermind, I'm an idiot, it looks like when I first tried to parse it, I put {{ }} around it by accident, {{urlencode:{{PAGENAME}}}} seems to work just fine--AOL user 04:29, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Woohoo! Thanks for the congrats ... I honestly never thought this project would reach a quarter of the size it has. It just keeps growing and growing and growing -- hopefully even larger once I get the interwiki projects thrown together. AmiDaniel (talk) 08:08, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ajit Someshwar

I'm not infallible either, but somewhow I was not able to contribute to the debate on deletion of the Ajit Someswar article, perhaps because I haven't been around the wiki world for long enough. Someone in that debate gratuitously referred to me as a rank beginner, which I found amusing given more than forty years experience in msjor media, college teaching and authorship. The point I was trying to make is that we massively over-represent westerners (and I'm one) - some 14,000 'American bios' for example, versus about 4,000 for India and China combined. I'm concerned about both cultural and racial bias in these steadily accumulating decisions, call them the wiki weltanschaung if you like. Maybe this particular subject needs to get his book finished before he's allowed into the portals, but there are other substantial contributions he has made to the Indo-Canadian community, very few of whom are represented in Wikipedia, and some of whom are quite distinguished. I'd like to suggest a reversal of the deletion: what the hell is a 'vanity page' if the entire enterprise isn't about vanity? (will you refer these comments wherever you think appropriate?)

Cvpj 11:18, 17 June 2006 (UTC)cvpj forgot to sign comment on ajit someshwarReply

I'm sorry that you didn't get a chance to contribute to the AfD discussion; however, if you would like to reopen the debate again, you may gladly seek a deletion review. If you need any help with this, I will be more than glad to assist you. I assure that that the individual who refered to you as a "rank beginner" was not refering to your professional career, but to your experience on Wikipedia, and as for the article being a vanity page, you may want to read over WP:AUTO, which details the commonly accepted idea on Wikipedia that articles should not be authored by the individuals which they discuss. Furthermore, should you choose not pursue a deletion review or should that fail, I will gladly userfy the article to your userspace if you would like, where you can gladly continue to work on the article and perhaps pursuade others to allow the page a place in the main article namespace. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and for your not having a chance to participate in the discussion, and please let me know if there's anything I can do for you. Setup File

Can I have your permission to make a VP setup file? Computerjoe's talk 12:45, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

No need to ask permission. If you have the time, it would be much appreciated as my only Win2K machine is currently down (don't want to go into details, but to create setups as I have in the past, I need a 2000 machine). AmiDaniel (talk) 03:54, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Revert on my userpage

Thanks for the revert on my userpage. --GeorgeMoney T·C 04:54, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Anytime. I'm sure you'd do the same for me =D. AmiDaniel (talk) 04:56, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think I have. It's just your userpage gets vandalized so many times, I can't find a diff. This was only the second time my page was vandalized, and the first time was by my brother, so that one doesn't really count. So basically, my userpage only got vandalized once. I guess vandals don't like me. --GeorgeMoney T·C 06:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
