Sequence of narrative
editArticle shows events of 1850s after Civic War activities - is that intentional? It might be better to revise for chronological sequence? (yeah, I might still have a login, haven't used it for a long time)
Not much here
editWhat is his degree in - is he an MD, ph.d, or something else?
1900s are from 1900 to 1909
editI've changed the text to read "Modern versions of these were put into use on flying gun platforms in the later half of the 1990s" as I think that this is what was meant.
Gatling
editKin of his is Former First Lady of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Gatling family today is largely located in Suffolk, Virginia. Other locations I'm not aware of. (Gatling) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.143.245.38 (talk) 18:25, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Error in information?
editAccording to the 1872 Swartz & Tedrowe's Indianapolis City Directory, Gatling was NOT the president of the Gatling Gun Company in that year. He didn't even appear to be living in Indianapolis.
The directory lists W H Talbott, a resident of Dresden Germany, as the president and Hillary Clay, a resident of Indianapolis, as the Secretary.
An interesting side note, the 1861 & 1862 City Directories show Richard J Gatling (1862 shows RJ Gatling) as a Real Estate Agent and as a Bill & Note Broker.
The 1898 Hartford City Directory shows the integration of Colt & Gatling and that Dr. Gatling was the president of a veterans of 1840 association. I don't know what the data collection cycle of this directories was, but it's possible that he wasn't president of the company even in 1897. --Conanian (talk) 18:55, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Richard Jordan Gatling was my great great grandfather. I went into a small gun store in Santa Fe NM a few years ago and there was a blow up of the best-known picture of Dr. Gatling (medical doctor) behind the counter. When I told him who I was, he didn't believe me at first until I rattled off the generational names. Then he came around the counter and shook my hand! He told me he'd always been an admirer of his. Strangest of all was seeing a picture I have in my possession blown up to larger than life size. Lacoquille (talk) 06:48, 5 September 2009 (UTC) |
