Violates NPOV
edit"Overall they were an underrated band..."
"...and they had just written television history, along with other writers" (I don't even know what this means)
"...to become another of Margaret Thatcher's unemployment statistics, which was a reflection of Britain in the early 1980s" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.25.213.67 (talk) 13:54, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
I have removed the first sentence flagged as POV - "Overall they were an underrated band", since it is clearly POV, unencyclopedic and does not add information to the article. I have re-drafted the sentence containing- "...and they had just written television history, along with other writers" to make it more grammatical. No comment/idea about this bit- "...to become another of Margaret Thatcher's unemployment statistics, which was a reflection of Britain in the early 1980s". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.71.13.219 (talk) 01:07, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
I have removed reference to Christ Church (Welshpool's) from details of his burial place as the Maesgwastad Cemetery is a public cemetery separate from the (nearby) church.Cloptonson (talk) 17:43, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Birthdate disputable
editThis article without citation gives his birth year as 1952 but, according to newspaper report in tonight's Shropshire Star (Saturday 21 March 2015), in which his father, Ernie Holton (still alive aged 90) was interviewed this is disputed, according to this paragraph:
- Gary, who was born on September 22, 1953 - Ernie says the papers all wrongly gave his age as 33 when he died, when was in fact 32 - was first in a rock band as a schoolboy at Beaufoy School, Lambeth.
This is worth investigating. I am aware of the showbiz practice of ages being shaved or advanced for promotional purposes by agents.Cloptonson (talk) 19:51, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Date of Birth
editI've taken the liberty of modifying Gary's DOB from 1952 to 1953, per this article about his father, who specifically mentions that "the papers got it wrong" when they mentioned his age at death as 33, in fact it was 32. Presumably his father would be a good reference point for that. https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2015/03/22/shrewsbury-father-remembers-multi-talented-son-gary-holton/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Indieshack (talk • contribs) 19:04, 10 June 2018 (UTC)
The odd thing is though that consulting the GRO marriage indexes we find an Ernest Holton and Joan Haighton's marriage registered in 1950, and in the birth indexes we find three birth registrations for people with the surname Holton and mother's maiden name Haighton, the eldest one being a Garry F Holton whose birth is registered in the last quarter of 1952. The other two births tally up with the names of the brothers in the article, and thus I'm inclined to believe that Garry F Holton is the correct birth registration and that his father is somehow the one who is mistaken about his son's age at death. If it is the correct birth registration then he may have only turned 33 a few weeks before his death, so it's possible that his last birthday had slipped his dad's mind at the time and he perhaps therefore thought it was the papers who were wrong, and thus his memory now is that the papers were wrong at the time, as he himself maybe never realised at the time that it was him who was wrong.
