Doom Writer is a Windows utility developed by Visual Vincent. It allows the creation of images from text using Doom/Doom II fonts in a chosen color scheme.

Features[edit]

  • Supports Doom's large font that is used in the menu (lumps M_* and WI*) and intermission level names (WILV* in Doom or CWILV* in Doom II) – a.k.a. BIGFONT;
  • Supports the small font used on text screens, the cast sequence and elsewhere (lumps STCFN*) – a.k.a. SMALLFONT;
  • Create images with multiple lines of text;
  • Add vertical offsets to individual characters within a line;
  • Assign colors to individual characters from the Zandronum/Skulltag colors list;
  • Freely resize the image;
  • A Chart Editor with the ability to use custom font charts.

  • The initial release occurred on April 26, 2014.
  • v1.2.7 was released on April 26, 2014.
  • v1.3.0 was released on May 3, 2014. It adds multi-line support, spacing and offset options, missing letters, and more.
  • v1.3.1 was released on May 3, 2014, adding a resize function.
  • v2.0.0 was released on November 17, 2014. It adds the Chart Editor, custom and SMALLFONT charts, and more.

A completely rewritten version 3.0.0 was planned but never materialized.[1]
