If your community lives on Discord, require Discord as an identity provider and announce your playtest to the server. Players verify their Discord account on join, so you know exactly who from the server showed up.

Take the guided tour

Connect a Discord server to your studio, step by step.

What you need first

  • A Discord server your community uses.
  • The Admin role, to connect Discord under Integrations.
  • A plan that includes studio integrations.
  • A draft playtest. Open or closed, single or multi session.

The playbook

1

Connect Discord

Go to Integrations and click the Discord card. Click Connect, pick your server, and approve the bot.

Roles and permissions

Why a member cannot connect an integration, and an admin can.
2

Require Discord identity

In the playtest editor, open the Onboarding tab and click the fingerprint button in the section header. In the Identities modal, switch Discord on.

Onboarding

The tab this modal lives on, and the screen that runs before it.
3

Trim other providers

Keep Email if you want a fallback, but drop Google and Steam unless you need them. Every provider you leave on is another step a player must complete before they can join.
4

Configure the rest of the playtest

Type, access, build, keys, survey, and recording are all independent of identity.
5

Publish

Click Publish in the editor header and confirm. The reservation is taken and the share link goes live.
6

Announce to Discord

Open the Config tab.
  • Set Announcement to Enabled.
  • On the Announcement tab, pick the channel and write the message.
The playtest is already live, so the post goes out as soon as you turn the toggle on.
7

Watch the joins

The Players tab shows each join as it happens. Players carry a Discord identity badge on their row.

The roster tab, and what the badges on each row mean.

Player identity

What a server member actually did to earn that badge.

How you know it worked

  • Your playtest lists Discord among the identities it requires.
  • The Discord announcement embed appears in the channel with a Join button.
  • Players on the Players tab carry a Discord identity badge.
  • A player without a Discord account cannot proceed past the identity step.
