You must normally create a card token using the client API to comply with Strong Customer Authentication legislation. See the guide page about tokenizing a card to learn how to create the token securely on the client.

Maximum 255 characters long. Automatically sanitised on write — emoji, currency symbols, and non-printable characters are stripped, and underscores are converted to spaces. All Unicode scripts are supported.

You can offer the customer a preferred scheme to pay on, say, if the customer's card supports co-schemes such as carte bancaire. This will be used as default for future transactions for this card.
