Our mission is to build a computer inspired by the human brain to fuel the progress of humankind.

Info

Current hardware for artificial intelligence is inefficient. For today's supercomputer center, it takes a long time, huge datasets and the energy of a whole power plant to train a high-end AI model, resulting in high costs and unsustainability. The problem is rooted in the fundamental architecture of today’s digital hardware itself, since it has nothing in common with the way the human brain works. GEMESYS Technologies offers an analog chip design based on the same information-processing mechanisms as the human brain. This enables AI hardware vendors to distribute a novel chip, that trains neural networks 20,000 times more energy-efficient than current technology. It not only significantly reduces the cost, time and amount of data required to train a neural network, but also increases overall quality as well as performance. Its small size and high energy efficiency allows it to be embedded in nearly every device, enabling decentralized on the edge training, data processing and decision making.

🚀 The biggest breakthroughs in deep tech rarely happen in isolation. They happen when ambitious teams are challenged by experienced builders, operators, and industry experts who have navigated similar paths before. After completing Ignite Next, we are taking forward exactly what makes programs like this valuable: a sharper go-to-market strategy and a clearer understanding of how to bring our neuromorphic AI hardware to the right markets. ⚡ Over the course of the program, we made significant progress in evaluating potential industries, improving our benchmark approach, and refining our customer story. Beyond the strategy work, the real value came from the conversations, challenges, and perspectives shared by an exceptional network of experienced builders and fellow deep-tech founders. 💡 A key strength of Ignite Next is the quality of its mentor ecosystem. We were fortunate to work with Wolfgang Furtner, Dr. Lydia Nemec, Oliver Haller, Shane Dewing, Vasily Aristarkhov, Peter Baumgartner, and Thomas Schiml, who brought valuable experience across deep tech, semiconductors, and scaling technology companies. A special thank you goes to our Lead Mentor, Christiaan Erik Rijnders, who continuously challenged us to look at GEMESYS from new angles, accelerate meaningful benchmark results, and improve how we approach potential customers. 🤝 We were also honored to receive the award for Most Engaged Startup in the batch. Being recognized among such a strong group of ten participating companies makes this achievement especially meaningful. A huge thank you to the entire Ignite Next team, our mentors, partners, and fellow founders for creating such a valuable experience. We are leaving the program with stronger benchmarks, a sharper customer story, and even more excitement about what comes next for GEMESYS. #DeepTech #IgniteNext #Semiconductors #AIHardware #EuropeanTech #Startups #GEMESYS

Portfolio Spotlight | GEMESYS ⚙️ AI is getting more powerful, and the hardware running it is struggling to keep up. The further you get from a data centre, the worse the problem gets. GEMESYS is building a chip that changes that. It's fully analog, and modelled on the way the human brain actually processes information. 🧠 The first chip that trains at the edge. Most AI chips can run inference on a device, but training still requires the cloud. GEMESYS is building the first hardware capable of both. 🧠 Efficiency that makes it possible. By mimicking the brain's architecture, GEMESYS expects training efficiency to improve by a factor of 10,000 compared to conventional digital chips. Less power, less data, same results. 🧠 Every device becomes smart. Low power consumption and a small form factor mean AI training isn't just for server farms anymore. Sensors, mobile devices, and edge hardware become capable of learning on their own. Explore the technology: https://gemesys.tech/ With Dr.-Ing. 🎉 GEMESYS turns 3 🎨 This time, we swapped laptops for paintbrushes and celebrated our 3rd anniversary with a pottery painting session. A slower pace, creative focus, and a great reminder of how important it is to step outside the usual routine. A different kind of hands-on activity, but one that still required patience, focus, and a bit of creativity. 🚀 Looking back, the past three years have been about exactly that: building step by step, turning ideas into real projects, and growing as a team along the way. Moments like this remind us how far we’ve come and how much of that journey is shaped by the people behind it. 🤝 A few painted pieces, plenty of laughs, and a great way to celebrate what we’ve built so far and what’s still ahead. #GEMESYS #StartupLife #Team #CompanyCulture #Anniversary  - Dr.-Ing. 🚀 Building in deep tech means learning from those who have done it before   At the beginning of March, our CEO Dr.-Ing. Dennis Michaelis and CFO Moritz Schmidt kicked off Batch #1 of Ignite Next together with 9 other European deep tech startups and it delivered exactly what you would expect from a highly selective program like this: intensity, focus, and real substance.    ⚡ Across four days, from 8am to 11pm, the schedule was packed with keynotes, startup pitches, IP strategy sessions, and most importantly hands-on work with our mentor team. A core part of the week was translating ambition into execution: defining clear OKRs, pressure-testing them, and setting up the structure for the next 12 weeks. 💡 What makes this program stand out is the mentor matching. Not random but tailored to each startup’s stage and challenges. For us, having access to Christiaan Erik Rijnders, our Lead Mentor, supported by Wolfgang Furtner as Stand-in Mentor, as well as Dr. Lydia Nemec, Oliver Haller, Shane Dewing, Vasily Aristarkhov, and Peter Baumgartner, means learning from people who have built, scaled, and operated in deep tech and semiconductor environments themselves. In an industry defined by very specific rules and dynamics, this kind of experience is a real advantage for GEMESYS. 🤝 Being surrounded by ambitious founders and experienced operators is always energizing. It is a strong reminder of what is possible and pushes us to stay focused on execution. We are excited for what lies ahead and already looking forward to the midterm week. #DeepTech #IgniteNext #Semiconductors #EuropeanTech #Startups #Founders #Mentorship #Innovation #GEMESYS

🌏 Deep Tech Bochum in Japan 🇯🇵  In February, Moritz Schmidt, CFO of GEMESYS, traveled to Tokyo as part of the Deep Tech Delegation organized by Bochum Economic Development and the Innovation Bridge Tokyo Tour by Venture Café Tokyo, together with two other silicon startups from Bochum: LIDROTEC and xemx materials space exploration GmbH. The purpose: exploring collaboration and investment opportunities within Japan’s technology ecosystem with a clear focus on long-term semiconductor innovation. 🏢 Strategic exchange with Sony  As an investor in GEMESYS, Sony plays an important role in our journey. The discussions in Tokyo centered around collaborative opportunities for our upcoming chip generation and the broader vision of neuromorphic hardware for energy-efficient AI training. What stood out was the shared long-term perspective, partnership built on roadmap alignment, not short-term milestones. 🔬 Technical exchange at eye level  Beyond these visits, the delegation prioritized substance over ceremony. Conversations ranged from semiconductor manufacturing precision and wafer optimization to AI hardware architectures and energy-efficient computing. Every discussion reinforced a simple truth: sustainable innovation comes from coordinated ecosystems, not isolated meetings.   💪 Why this matters for GEMESYS  For a startup pushing the boundaries of AI hardware, these exchanges are not just networking, they are strategic learning and validation. Seeing how leading global companies think, plan, and execute innovation informs our next-generation chip development and strengthens our international partnerships. 🙏 A huge thanks to Bochum Economic Development and Venture Café Tokyo for curating this experience, providing access to technical depth, and helping bridge Bochum and Japan in a meaningful way.  The bridge is no longer theoretical, it is active and it is shaping the future of Deep Tech collaboration. #DeepTechBochum #Semiconductors #AIHardware #NeuromorphicComputing #InternationalCollaboration #GG26Tokyo

📝- I thought I was prepared for Tokyo. 🧠- Turns out, I wasn’t. My first visit to Japan, and it became an intense and very inspiring one. To explore Japan for collaboration and investment opportunities, I joined the Deep Tech Delegation organized by Bochum Economic Development and the Innovation Bridge Tokyo Tour by Venture Café Tokyo What I expected: great meetings. What I experienced: direct access to the core of one of the world’s most advanced innovation ecosystems. One defining moment was visiting Sony, who are invested in GEMESYS and exploring collaborative opportunities for our upcoming chip generation. Sitting together in Tokyo, discussing our long-term vision, made one thing very clear: this is not transactional capital. This is strategic partnership. Equally impressive was our session at Fujitsu UVANCE Innovation Studio. Listening to Yoichi Murakami-san and Taisuke Iwai-san present their approach to technology innovation was more than a corporate visit. A deep dive into how global technology leaders think about our future. I asked more detailed questions than I had planned, and honestly, I would have gladly stayed for hours longer to continue the exchange. Throughout the week, what stood out most was the level of seriousness: Innovation here is not a buzzword. It is structured. It is long-term. It is deliberate. My sincere thanks to Bochum Economic Development for building this bridge and to Venture Café Tokyo for curating a week that felt less like a program and more like privileged access. That was my first time in Japan. It will not be my last. #DeepTechBochum #GG26Tokyo
