1. What data do you collect when I search?

When you perform a search on Com.com, we partner with Google and Giant Panda to provide you with search results, including sponsored results. In order to deliver these services, we automatically collect certain data that is required by our search partner to maintain service quality and prevent fraudulent activity, including bot attacks and ad fraud. This data includes your IP address and search query terms.

2. How does com.com protect my privacy?

All connections to Com.com are encrypted using SSL/HTTPS connections. We do not collect any additional third-party data, including cross-site third-party data.

3. Why are you collecting personal data at all?

The limited personal data collection mentioned in Section 1 is necessary to operate Com.com and prevent fraud, including preventing bot attacks and ad fraud. 5. Can anyone see my searches?

Search queries may be accessible to Google, Giant Panda, and their partners. Your search queries may also be available in your browser history if you have that functionality enabled in your browser.

6. Will any personal data ever be shared with 3rd parties?

Com.com automatically shares certain personal data with third parties (such as Google and Giant Panda) in order to deliver search results. If you provided consent to certain data processing activity, you can withdraw that consent at any time by accessing Com.com's consent management platform, which is accessible by clicking on "Cookie Settings" in the footer of this page.

8. U.S. State Law Requirements

Nevada residents: Com.com does not sell covered information, as defined under Nevada law.

8.1 California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (Virginia CDPA), and similar state privacy laws

As stated above, Com.com receives search queries from you and provides them to Google and/or Giant Panda (along with associated user data) for the purpose of providing search results, including sponsored results. With respect to these limited activities, Com.com does not engage in the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information, nor does it engage in "targeted advertising," as those terms are defined under various U.S. state privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA), Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (Virginia CDPA), and Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA)) and for the limited purpose of processing this data, Com.com acts as a "service provider" of Google and Giant Panda.

Within the preceding 12 months, Com.com (for itself and as a service provider of Google and Giant Panda) collected, used, and disclosed (to Google and Giant Panda) the following categories of personal information:

9.2 Legal Basis for Processing

Com.com processes the personal data mentioned in Section 1 for the following legal reasons:

  • Performance of a contract: As stated in our Terms of Use, in order to perform a search, Com.com will need to process your search query and IP address. If you do not want us to process this data, you should not use Com.com and instead should visit Google or Giant Panda directly to perform your searches.
  • Legitimate interests: Com.com has a legitimate interest in detecting and preventing fraud, which necessitates collecting IP address data.
  • Consent: Where Com.com asks for your explicit consent before any cookie is used (for instance, you may be required to give consent before you are served any advertising results).
  • Legal obligations: Where Com.com is required to share data as a result of legal obligations.

9.3 Data Retention

IP addresses are anonymized or deleted after 7 days. Search query data is retained for a period of one year, except if you request its deletion sooner.

9.4 Your GDPR Rights

Under the GDPR, users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland have the following rights:

  • Right of access (Article 15 GDPR): You have the right to obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning you is being processed, and where that is the case, access to the personal data.
