Incredible Trees & Top-Tier Customer Support!

I recently ordered from MrMaple and could not be happier with my experience! My trees arrived quickly, safely, and in great shape.Since I am new to this specific growth habit, I reached out to their team with a few questions about the unique grafting style of one of the maples before getting them in the ground. High kudos to Lucy! She responded promptly with an incredibly thoughtful, detailed, and educational message. She expertly explained how the high-graft style naturally creates that beautiful, clean trunk structure and gave me fantastic tips on staking and caring for it.It is rare to find an online nursery that couples an amazing selection with such deeply knowledgeable, personalized customer support. I am so excited to get these beautiful maples planted and watch them thrive. Highly recommend MrMaple!

I have never seen such terrible…

I have never seen such terrible preparation of a delicate tree for shipping.

All they did was very loosely wrap a grocery store plastic bag around the pot. It wasn't even taped down. A good quarter of the soil had been forced out of the pot. There was no protection for the trunks and canopy - they were just stuck into a cardboard box with no cushioning. One plant was pot down, the other pot up.

And yet I was charged the most shipping from any other nursery. Those other nurseries actually protect the trees and yet they can charge less.

That's just the shipping. These are the worst grafts I've encountered. I order from nurseries and bonsai nurseries. I know what is normal. Lazy. Wedge grafts almost four inches long and much too high from the soil base.

Price is too high and shipping too high for such lazy treatment. I fell for their marketing. The first impression is the best impression and Mr Maple failed badly. Caveat emptor. I won't make the mistake to order from them again. Now my entire first year is triage. What a waste.

Trash seconds or thirds that nurseries reject

I've ordered many many tress over the years and I know a lot about them. I believe trees from Mr. Maple are seconds or thirds that nurseries didn't want. The trees Mr. Maple sent me were trash, deformed with codominant leaders, twisted and severely bent trunks, girdling roots, and if planted would require years of correction. I tried but Mr. Maple does not give refunds. Stay away from this company.

I have purchased a ton of trees over…

I have purchased a ton of trees over the last few years ( over $5,000.00) and until now it’s ok, this shipment arrived on two different days no warnings they were on the way, no box count ( there were 5 boxes) nothing…thank goodness my UPS driver has the gate codes and placed boxes in the shade,
5 of the 43 trees were really damaged bad….more than 50% on each tree 2 were over 80%, I contracted Mr Maple they ask for pictures and a over a week now an nothing from them, all the trees were damaged some , I think it’s because they placed large trees in a box much to small…, I’m paying for freight and shipping I would think Mr Mapke would take more pride in delivering them in great or at least in good condition. 12 of these trees were a gift
I love their selection and I’m ok with their prices ….the the after sale customer service and hopes for a repeat customer sale is really lacking.
I won’t say they lost me as a customer but I’m looking for other places to shop . Larry in Alabama

Dumping defective, weird trees on public

Ordered a tree, 2025 sale, delivered mid-Dec. De-boxed a crooked, weird leaning tree with no buds nor branches on backside. Defective tree, raised & reaching for light, leading to that configuration. Asked for another, straight tree (what everyone believes this tree would be). Co responds with a video to stake it (and hope for the best!) Claims they won't refund cuz it wasn't damaged in shipping (so much for their own "customer satisfaction b.s."). Confident their remaining stock was just as defective (notice they won't send another?) Scam to get rid of odd, weird trees at end of year.

MrMaple Trees are Not Good Specimens for Bonsai…

I purchased a Mikawa Yatsubusa maple advertised on their website as suitable for bonsai. The tree is much smaller than expected and has NO branching. A very small lollipop. A low graft tree, the graft will be an eyesore throughout the life of the tree. I will need to plant it in the ground for a minimum of five years for it to be anywhere close to bonsai ready. A bad purchase on my part, and on theirs for misrepresentation of their product. I advise future customers to be cautious of this seller, especially given there are so many other sellers of this product.

Top Tier Company

Shopping with Mr. Maple has been all positive experiences. I have around 20ish trees (and a shirt for my wife) thus far.
- Fast shipping. Hot July Alabama summer yet nothing arrives in bad shape from heat.
- Customer service responds quickly and resolved every issue. Multiple replacement trees were sent for anything damaged during shipping.
- The trees look amazing!! I’ve been surprised by how large and leafy the trees have been.
- Prices are the best you’ll find. Constant sales and new products weekly is a nice addition to already incredible prices.
- Their media content has been very helpful to watch. It hasn’t been boring or excessively long, but gives plenty useful information.

Can’t say enough good things about them, I’ll be doing all possible shopping with them. My kids enjoy opening each tree that has arrived too.

Extremely Disappointed

Extremely Disappointed – Poor Quality Tree and Zero Accountability

I recently ordered a maple tree from Mr. Maple, spending nearly $100 with the expectation of receiving a healthy, well-structured young tree. Unfortunately, what arrived was in very poor condition. The tree had a harsh, stiff bend that shoots completely off to one side — something that cannot be corrected even with staking, as attempting to do so would likely break the young tree.

Additionally, the leaves were wilted on arrival and the tree lacked any real structure. I reached out to the company immediately, only to be told that I should just stake it and wait for it to eventually look like the tree they advertised. In other words, I paid full price for a flawed tree and now I’m expected to force it to grow into what it should’ve already been when delivered.

This experience has been frustrating and disappointing. Mr. Maple refuses to offer a refund or take accountability for sending out a subpar product. Based on their dismissive response and unwillingness to make this right, I will not be purchasing from them again and cannot recommend them to others. Customer satisfaction and product integrity clearly are not priorities for this company.

The Legacy of Mr. Maple: A Tradition Rooted in Passion
Roots run deep within the Mr. Maple family. For over 51 years, a love for Japanese Maples has flourished across generations, transforming this into more than just a family tradition—it is a lifelong dedication.
Matt & Tim Nichols, the visionary co-owners of Mr. Maple, have elevated their passion to extraordinary heights. With over 1,500 varieties of Japanese Maples, these brothers dominate the industry through outstanding customer service, unsurpassed quality, and competitive pricing. Their dedication to these beloved trees extends far beyond cultivation—it is a relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
Determined to deepen their understanding, Matt & Tim have traveled far and wide, visiting Japan twice to study the origins of Japanese Maples—a journey that earned them a feature on Tokyo TV. Their quest for expertise did not stop there; they ventured across Europe, immersing themselves in the diverse varieties and species these trees have to offer.
Today, the world-renowned duo continues to share their insights with enthusiasts everywhere. Through their educational videos on The Mr. Maple Show (featured on YouTube) and their popular podcast, they inspire and educate a global audience. Their passion is more than a business—it is a commitment to preserving and celebrating the beauty of Japanese Maples, ensuring that the tradition thrives for generations to come.
I have had the utmost pleasure of purchasing from MrMaple.com and cannot recommend this family-run nursery highly enough. Matt and Tim Nichols have cultivated more than just exceptional Japanese maples—they have grown a legacy rooted in passion, expertise, and dedication. Their commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of their business, from the health and variety of their trees to the seamless online purchasing experience.
What sets Mr. Maple apart is not only their extensive selection of maples but their impressive range of other rare plants and shrubs, many of which come from their recently acquired Buchholz Nursery in Oregon. The quality and diversity of their offerings are truly world-class, and yet, their prices remain affordable and accessible.
I now exclusively purchase from this nursery because I trust them completely. Their customer service is knowledgeable and personable, and their enthusiasm for horticulture is infectious. MrMaple.com is more than a nursery—it is a community, a resource, and a gem in the gardening world.

Won't be buying from Mr. Maple ever again

We have ordered over 40 trees from Mr. Maple in the past several years and while we are usually not thrilled about the size of the trees or their weird shapes, my husband just loves buying trees. The last shipment of trees we received was for 6 trees, three Japanese Maples and three pine trees. All three of the maples were already dormant because we purchased them in late September. None of these three trees budded in the spring so I guess they were all dead. Mr. Maple said that it was too bad, we should have taken pictures when they arrived and they would not do anything. So basically, we bought trees that we didn't even get 1 minute of joy from. We will never buy another tree from them.

I’m a senior on a fixed income. To my great joy, I discovered Mr maple.com and was able to pick up my Japanese plants personally and attend their open houses. Great products and the best knowledge in the business.
