Broadbent & Co was set up in 1996 by Steven and Elizabeth Broadbent. Steve was the Chair of the National Network for Access Centres until 2013 and so very much involved in DSA developments at a national level. Their ethos was simple, the belief that "everyone must be seen and treated as an individual with their own individual needs. These needs must be identified in order for them to realise their own potential in education, employment and for life". In May 2018, Steve very sadly passed away. His son, Andrew, continues to follow in his footsteps and is the CEO of Broadbent Assist Ltd, Director alongside Elizabeth Broadbent, and he is also an active Needs Assessor.

Had a random person call me to try and sell me a policy through Broadbent , couldn't tell me where he got my number, and couldn't put me through to a manger as apparently all managers will be on holiday for at least 5 weeks.
The person that rang me is called Ben he was fantastic, made me feel at ease and took his time . Thank you so much Ben for everything.
Ben listen to everything I said and had a solution that would help me and explain how they work.
Ben my assessor was fantastic, with his amazing people skills I was able to open up and talk to him with ease, something id normally struggle with.
I find discussing my health somewhat traumatic so I was dreading the assessment I had from broad bent and co, however the process was seamless from start to finish.
I received clear instructions and helpful links to register with the organisation prior to discussing my needs with Ben. Again something I find overwhelming and I missed the initial deadline but staff gave me extra time to prepare and bent over backwards to accommodate me.
Using this company, I feel has supported me to prepare for my law course. I was listened to and understood, I was able to engage in the process over the telephone which was really helpful given my current state of health.
I was totally unaware how much help was available to me in respect of software, certain allowances and ongoing support from broadbent should my fluctuating needs change in the future.
Valuable information was shared with me, for example I'm no longer going to have to wait for over 3 years for my ADHD diagnosis thanks to Ben bringing a speedier route to my attention.
I mentioned a few physical complications which would make studying physically uncomfortable but Ben and I came up with a plan to address these issues.
I was given help to overcome so many hurdles and barriers in just 1 phone call and now due to this I can't wait to begin where as prior to using bb I was finding it all a little to much.
i now genuinely believe I can achieve my honours degree in law with every aspect of support bb has recommended to sfe for me and im really exited to get going.
I suffer complex health issues I'm sometimes embarrassed to discuss but staff were knowledgeable and enabled me to talk about my needs with ease.
Id recommend using this service to anyone. It's a ten out of ten from me.
Communications with Broadbent & Co were excellent right from the start and I found the option to book a DSA online very accessible and convenient. I did not know what to expect from the assessment and was a bit anxious at first but Ben was very helpful, offered practical guidance and advice and made the assessment feel more like a friendly chat than an interview. Overall I was very happy with the needs assessment outcome and feel that the support measures we discussed will make a huge difference to my enjoyment and engagement in my studies.
I had my DSA appointment with Megan and she was so lovely, clear spoken and sensitive towards me and my needs. I was worried about the appointment beforehand but within a few minutes I was instantly calm and it felt very informal; like I was talking to a friend. She was so friendly and very good at explaining everything in detail and answering any questions I had. I left the call knowing my case was in great hands and without any worries or queries - she was fantastic. Would highly recommend using Broadbent & Co!
Great lovely interviewer felt really comfortable
it was very easy for me to get the help i needed and the team was amazing to make sure i had everything, they were in contact very quickly and if i was unsure or needed to reschedule it was easy to do so
They are professional. I found them helpful as the lady explained to me how different things can fit my needs. Didn’t make me feel like I was stupid, as some people when asking about what you need can make you feel a bit stupid, but the lady I spoke to was lovely and was also really interested in helping me and getting the support I needed.
Jon, who carried out my DSA assessment, was so kind and understanding. He was so well educated on my disabilities and genuinely cared about my experiences and how he could help. I was so nervous but it was so validating and I felt so much better for doing it.
Louise, was very friendly and assessed my needs thoroughly.
I found her professionalism to be a very high standard.
I would recommend her to anyone in my position. Thanks so much.
Nikki and the team are absolutely amazing. The whole process from start to finish was so seamless and frankly, quite enjoyable.
From when I first called to ask for a DSA assessment, the lady I spoke to was very kind and warm.
They work very quickly, too. I was able to get an assessment within 1 week of initially making contact, and they were very flexible with their schedule.
The assessment itself was an absolute joy. I felt so comfortable speaking to Nikki and felt like I could share anything with her. She was so understanding and encouraging and she listened well to everything I said. She offered me a break during the assessment as there was a lot to go through and the overall conversation was very pleasant.
The aftercare for the assessment was equally as pleasant. Nothing I asked of Nikki was too much, and she was always very quick to reply. Although I made quite a number of requests, she was always more-than-happy to help and facilitate my requests as far as possible.
I’m so grateful to Broadbent for their help. Their service is spectacular.
Ben was very considerate and truly cared about getting me the best help with my studies. He was knowledgeable about softwares that are available for my specific needs and took everything I said into consideration.
I’ve had two DSA needs assessments now with the same company and assessor and they’ve exceeded expectations both times. The assessor was really friendly and knowledgeable. They were able to identify areas where support would be helpful that I hadn’t even considered.
While the process took longer than expected and mentioned, Broadbent have been exceptional with communication. For my DSA needs assessment, I had Bev as an assessor and I have absolutely no complaints. Bev was very understanding and open to vouching for any additional support needs I requested. All the software was explained well, and further support with this was given via email. Thanks a lot Bev and Broadbent!
Had a zoom call with one of the assessors - Ben. They took time to thoroughly understand the challenges I've been experiencing and made me feel comfortable by acknowledging my difficulties, they also gave really good practical advice on how to manage my learning and then suggested some really useful support aids and devices to help get me the right level of help I need.
Very good experience, it took about 2 hours and the interviewer broke down all the information for me so it wasn’t overwhelming. They didn’t judge and listened to me careful so they could make sure all my needs are met and accommodated for. After the interview they sent me a summary of all that was mentioned in the meeting. They also replied very quickly to all my emails and questions regarding the process. About 2 weeks after, I received an assessment report and it was encrypted with a password, this made me feel safe and secure to know that my data and information are protected. Nothing bad to say, very smooth process.
I had a lovely experience with Broadbent & Co, been with them for three (maybe four) years now and never had a complaint. Very lovely people, very helpful and friendly regardless of the situation. Will always try and help you in every way possible!
Could not recommend them enough!
