With the new searchbar, we wanted to follow the design of the urlbar and that's why there is currently no x button. However, we are evaluating whether it would make sense to add one to the urlbar over in bug 2007268.

This button is intentionally not keyboard-accessible and not exposed to screen readers because the Esc key covers this functionality. This is conistent with the legacy implementation.
